A real driver! Take it home Jay! I ran one from 300,000 to 485,000 and it was still running when I sold it. The rear floor pans were almost non existent. With the kids and car seats covered in soot and road salt, the missus said it had to go. Ran the car on fryer oil from the local Chinese restraint. Just strained out the crispins and dump it in the tank. Nostalgic Benz cruzin - rollin moo shoo pork coal.

This video reminded me when I bought a 2003 Toyota highlander three years ago it had 340k miles and it was stuck in the back of the parking lot of a dealership abandoned for 4 years, The tires flat, interior junked and engine with cobwebs, I'll be damned the thing started without a new battery. Classic Diesel Mercedes are Tanks! Love seeing them on the road here in Florida. Alot of Seniors drive them in The Villages. You should restore that Gem! Just like Willie said that Mercedes is singing "To All The Girls I loved Before." Haha. I know that Benz will make it to a million!

Cool, of course it started, the old IDI mechanical diesels are always ready to serve with just a hot battery, prime up and a hit of glow. My old Citroens are the same, just moved one last week that had sat over a year & it's like you ran it yesterday. Perfect vehicle for running on bio or even straight veg oil. Makes cold starting a little more interesting but they'll always go and you get a bonus lopey idle till they warm up lol

I bypassed the GP relay with a push button switch and a lawn mower relay. Needs a RR wheel bearing and im gonna tackle that soon... near perfect interior 3 spots of rust and the seats are not blown out, that one is a keeper for sure. I love driving my 4spd so slooooow!

Did all the little maintenance stuff now im driving the thing back and forth from Massachusetts to NYC for school. Such a blast, definitely put her back on the road and treat her right, if it starts that quickly in the cold then that motor is in really good knick.

Partly because we still had the aftermath of the Arab oil embargo so fuel was insanely expensive for the time, partly because you could fit at least six golf bags in the trunk that thing has. The way yours runs, probably worth a total reservation. Those things were some of the best made cars, ever. ✌️

The glow plug relay has probably been bypassed they normally just come on with the key that rocker switch is aftermarket. A good service and clean up will have it right ;) buy a can of Liquid Moli Diesel Purge and take of the go and return pies and get the car running off a can of that it will clean up the system they run so much better after a purge :) Enjoy looks like you have a decent base there ;)

The gauge cluster issue is because some of the traces on the board on the back are burnt. You either have to repair the traces or replace the fuel temp oil gauge since it, the speedo, and clock/tac units are separate units you can take out of the cluster housing. The fuel, oil, temp gauge was available new for under $100 several years ago but I don't know if its still available. The other concern is that it looks like some oil leaked into the warning lights on the left side of cluster since the oil pressure gauge is a live gauge with an oil line running to the oil filter housing. If the pressure gauge or the line is leaking that could lead to a big mess under the dash and on the carpet.

I remember those when I was in HS in the 80's. I've heard those are one of the most long lived cars of all time...real quality then. Ten years ago I almost bought one from the used car lot at a junkyard.

I used to love going to junkyards when I first started driving back in the day. I always needed some part to keep my old $200 cars running. I just loved looking around under the seats for loose change, or just wondering what the heck happened to put the car in the junkyard in the first place. Nowadays most places won't let you walk around on your own.

the knob below the speaker icon was probably fade control for the original sound system, not often you find a car like that these days, especially one that starts up like that after sitting for a few years.

Cool! I like how they put the degrees in Celsius...lol. And the oil pressure is just 1, 2, 3, 4......weird. For a second or two, it seemed like the Tach was trying to come back to life. It was trying to come up. Definitely would like to see it cleaned up
