I crewed on this ship back in 1982 for a few weeks, back when we still had a National Union of Seamen and jobs at sea; fantastic to go back in time via this clip, it was a happy time and well captured here on film. Even an indoor pool for the punters with real waves when the going got rough! Thanks Thames, I never thought this kind of footage existed!!

Hi. I was a passenger on the Christmas 82 Cruise to West Indies. Maybe we shared the same Ship. I remember some of the crew had served on Canberra during the Falklands conflict.
£1542 in 1985 was an enormous sum. I was a graduate entry civil servant back then taking home £440 a month and a summer fortnight on the Spanish Costas was around £250. No wonder only the rich could cruise.
Cruising is something that has actually got cheaper. The same company offers the same route now on arguably a better ship for almost half the price!

Cheaper, but no less horrifying floating leisure gulags.

This ship was built as Kungsholm for Swedish owners in 1966. In 1979, P&O Cruises introduced it as Sea Princess, but they had the ship rebuilt before this and it wrecked its previous, fine exterior.
Shaw Taylor as Alan Partridge 😍 A great place for "Fashion Clothes "at 2:13
A glass of cold beer for 45pence, those were the days. 🍺👍🏻
Hi, I’m Troy Mclure, he sounds just like him. Also, good to see that climate change was in full effect in our British summers back in 1985.

Are you trying to say climate change doesn’t exist? The world population has doubled since then.

@@bid84 we are going to need a bigger boat! Like Noah’s Ark. I was merely implying that we have the same summers then as we do now. Very sorry if I upset you. Maybe everybody should vote for the green party next time, The right tool for the job. Bodger unfortunately is just a tool.
The ex- Kungsholm of 1966 that sailed with Swedish American Line between Gothenburg and New York :)
pricing is similar to todays cruise on a floating block of flats, just have to pay for everything onboard now...if you want
7:28 - first with a broken neck wins!
I personallyi don't like cruises , but i reconized that you do so , they are fabulos ...🌊💙🌅
Chuck the cabin door keys in the bowl...

(1:15) "This must be one of the most safest ways to travel." Sure..? I mean, Shaw Taylor.

They act happy and they’re young, bronzed and gorgeous, but beneath the fashion clothes and deck sports they’re almost certainly as anxious and empty as the rest of us, ever-haunted by the slow, creeping shadow of oblivion. I hope they remembered to use sun cream with a high SPF.

I’m sure they were, it’s just that the director made sure you didn’t see them. This is a film, not reality.
