Really enjoyed watching that Nat. I use 2 stroke in the rings when seating them in the cylinder which helps them slid in although you will get a touch of smoke on first start up if you did. Engines looking great mate.

Just a little engine oil for the fitting but I am thinking that it might be a good idea to drop a little in before first start up. What do you think?

Well done on making that fiddly job look straightforward. I made it more difficult for myself by doing the top end of my GS550 with the engine in the frame, outside in December, sitting on the ground. When it comes to installing cams, followers and shims, as you have a spare set, I would suggest going through all the shims and selecting the 8 thinnest for your initial assembly. That gives you your best chance of having an actual clearance to measure, so you can work out the correct size of shim. It looks a similar setup to the GS, so it should be easy to make a tool to push the followers down so you can change shims without taking the cams off. Good progress made.

Change the cylinder head gasket,it's totally the wrong one,it should also have one hole at the front not two.otherwise it,ll have to come apart if it doesn't seat&seal properly..Ian.

It's got 12 highly torqued bolts holding it in place so I think it's good. I will suck it and see.

Hi Nat. What's your plan for the pitted front forks ? Personally I would either get them re chromed (doesn't cost a fortune), or get some slightly longer, from another model. In for a penny.....!!
