I bought one of these brand new in 1979. A beautiful black. I remember debating with myself over the choice of the unique car, until I saw this newly delivered, fresh off the truck, deep black glowing in the Texas sunset. It was love ar first sight. Great road feel and butter smooth like a V12. Dickered the price down to US$13K, sold it two years (and 40k miles) later for US$10K. The 1980 was the definitive RX-7, benefiting from lessons Mazda learned with the1978-79 models, but before the 1981 model year saw the loss of the classic symmetrical 'rocket' nose of the '78-80.

Man i miss my 79'.Never get tired of listening to that rotary exhaust note.

thats pretty wild bro! I actually thought u were wrong becuz in the usa, we didnt get the 13b till the gsl se model but ur in australia so different models and specs! u guys must have got the newer stuff ahead of time

I had one of these in the late 90s It made a lot of noise and kept revving but it wasn't very fast really. I also had a 280Z Nissan which was a lot of faster and a much better car overall.

there was also a 12a turbo, great vid btw!
