    This was an awesome restore, best I’ve ever seen. I like that you used leather in certain parts. I don’t know if you know this already but I usually use an electric carving knife to cut foam to shape. You can even shaped ridges into a thick foam, for shaping. buy electric carving knives from flea markets, thrift shops or boot sales no matter how old they are, they’re still perfect for shaping foam. I’m now going subscribe and binge watch your channel. Thank you for sharing.

    Before writing a comment, you should at least watch the video. Where did you see the rotten parts there? All that has rotted there is the foam rubber in the ear pads and the headband of the headphones. And what does rotten foam have to do with your experience in radio engineering? I did not repair rotten electronics with leaking capacitors. Well, don't make yourself look like a fool.

    Have a set of Lafayette's from around 1973, the F-550 coax model. nearly the same design, different driver. All original except I replace the pads with some XL Brainwaves round pads. They sound OK but may update the drivers in the future, should improve the sound and the wieght. They are a heavy set of headphones.

    I'm glad you liked it. A little about the headphones - they don’t play low frequencies very well, but they play mids and highs very well, cymbals and drums sound incredibly realistic on them. Nothing other than wideband paper drivers will reproduce musical instruments so realistically (we are talking about live instrumental music). If we take into account electronic digital genres of music, they are not very suitable, unfortunately.

    @@CustomFIX Thanks for the answer, if the author does not leave comments unanswered, then it says a lot. Regarding the issue of drivers, I left the original ones. I don't want to change them, I really like the sound of these, first of all, the sound is better than that of modern ones, because it is alive, real. Maybe it would be worth adding bass, but ..... I don't know, in my opinion, the frequencies here are perfectly balanced. I am included. I replaced only the bracket, at first I thought to do the same as you did to restore it, but I don’t like the overall look with the original bracket, the headphones themselves are big and the bracket fits the head and the look was kind of .... I didn’t paint the cups on the headphones, and the carbon film cover, I like it better. Although the way you painted it also looks great. I also replaced the connector with a modern one, although I used a mini Jack 3.5. I thought you used a larger connector, or am I wrong? Thanks again for the idea with the grid, or rather, I was also planning to install the grid, but I couldn't decide how to do it. It turned out to be very easy ..... AND HOW COULDN'T I THINK OF SUCH AN EASY SOLUTION MYSELF. One more question, do you have a video where you sew ear cushions, or did you order them somewhere? Because I don't know how to sew them myself, although I sew products from leather and by hand. But ear pads are a little difficult if you don't see how someone else does it.

  • @CustomFIX

    @CustomFIX

    Күн бұрын

    Thank you, I try to keep feedback). Regarding the drivers, I like the way they sound, but the low frequencies are lacking. Although they were not made for low frequencies, as far as I understand, these headphones are made for playing live music. The paper driver very accurately conveys all the nuances of the instrumental part, concert. Few people can understand this. I was bombarded with comments like “they need to be thrown away, this is..., they don’t sound good, they’re trash,” etc. Ambishuras had to be invented on the spot, new ones had to be sewn onto the base of the old ones. I showed how much I could sew the ambishur in the video, or rather I couldn’t, because I was partially redoing it already in the process. Yes you are right the plug I used is a large 6.3

    Why these specific 1980s headphones? I remember some interesting headphones from that era and earlier, these don't seem that special. However old headphones do not survive well. I remember some quadraphonic headphones I tried with a Pink Floyd Medal Quad disk in a HiFi shop in Windsor in the 70s. Most people refuse to believe they even existed.

  • @CustomFIX

    It's simple, I only had these headphones). I believe in the existence of quadro headphones from the 80s. I know that they were and are, but due to the fact that they did not gain much popularity and could only be heard at an exhibition, people do not know about them. Now they can be purchased but only at auctions. We are, of course, talking about headphones from the 70-80s.

    You need to know when to stop! This plug fits these headphones quite well. If only these were real Lafayettes, and not a replica of dubious quality. (indicated in the description). I would buy something more serious.

    As you wish. The best job for you personally is to simply wash it well. There are a lot of such channels about restoration, I found it in the grass, washed it in the river, it looks like new, like in the 80s.

    I agree, I have a pair of new current headphones. I just like the process itself.

    It’s just a hobby, buying new ones defeats the purpose of finding joy in restoring stuff 🙂

    Yes that's right. I indicated in the title (TDS-1) the full description of the video about TDS-1. In the middle of the video I restored the logo as TDS-1. But all over the world they are known as the Lafayette F-990, naturally the original original version.
