1979 Fiat Spider 2000 Cooling System Flush Troubleshoot

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

CORRECTION! I HAVE THE FLOW REVERSED IN THE VIDEO. The coolant comes out of the upper part of the block and then down to the water pump. It does not change anything about the theory or function but is important to know the accurate flow direction.
Many owners of these cars have a difficult time getting the system to purge air after replacing the coolant. This is what I discovered which should make it easier for many of those experiencing this challenge. Especially if you feel that after changing your coolant your radiator fan and or thermostat are no longer working. Chances are they are just fine and one small thing will fix your problem

We've been fighting UPPER Radiator being HOT, Bottom of Radiator by switch COOL, with Temp Guage pegging in the Red since we refilled the system a year ago. MY GOD this is the BEST Vid on the ISSUE with the 124 Spider! This needs to be Retitled in the heading ... 124 Spider Overheating Fix. SO Well explained when you show with the screwdriver how it all works !!! Thank YOU !!!

So upon further troubleshooting I put the new thermostat in wrong. It wasn’t the same as the OEM one and I didn’t pay close enough attention to the configuration. Also saw a hint online to drill a tiny hole inside the thermostat housing to relieve the air pocket. Worked.

Worked for me. I loosened the hose to let air out. Afterward the hose heated up and everything worked the way it was supposed to.

You need to make sure ALL air is bled out of top of engine otherwise coolant doesn't circulate and it overheats.

Try the old tip the vehicle trick. Raise the front up on a hill or jack stands or something. Works on some vehicles.

Does your fan come on? Radiator flow checked? Pull radiator out take to shop have it flow tested and leak test. Install new Thermostat and fresh 50/50 coolant
