On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-26-20.
We're looking at a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 in Medium Metallic Green Paint. The car comes with the factory 350 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Dale Vierig. Dale’s had this car since 2019. He shares he had two 1980 Camaro Z28’s in High School and always wanted another one, and a Friend found this one for sale in a Church parking lot with under 9000 original miles on it.
ENJOY!

'79 was the best-ever sales year for the Camaro. I remember when these and the Trans Ams were absolutely ubiquitous and we sort of took them for granted. Now when you see a clean one you stop and stare!! ; )

When I was 9-12 years old there was a girl in my class who's older sister had this exact car, color everything. Once in awhile I'd get a ride home from school in it.

wonderful Camaro, great color. I had the 77 model. For me the most beautiful shape is the 70-81 models

Such an unusual and rich color. Love it. I was in high school when the Z/28 was reintroduced in the late '70s and it was huge news. One of the car magazines did a shootout with the Z, the Trans Am and Corvette and I read it multiple times.

Tough crowd here, Lou! :) Beautiful 79 there. When the Z came back in '77, one of the key pieces for the package were the cat back dual exhausts that gave the car a very distinctive sound as GM went with resonators in place of the mufflers. In effect, straight pipes. In 78 I went to the local Chevy dealer and ordered up the pipes for my own 1974 Camaro. I imagine mine were louder then the cat-choked 77 to 81 Z28's that featured these special exhausts. Very rare thing to see a Z from this vintage still running with the rear resonator exhausts. Your test car here has them, and a key identifier, aside from the numbers on the resonators themselves are the particular way the exhaust tips are bent & ending with that half-round shape at the top of the tip. Thanks for finding these special cars for our enjoyment, Lou!

I had a 79 red on red with orange stripes back in late 80s . It must have left a impression because people still remember it. Sold it in the late 90s after college. Have a 81 white on red with deluxe interior and red decals . The car is all original time capsule capsule . Have to give yourself time when taking it out cause people want tell you their memories of these.

Truly a beautiful vehicle. That being said 0-60 in "yes". Had a 1971 SS 350 Camaro in high school. Big as in BIG difference.

Lou I was 19 in 1979 and I really wanted a 79 Z28 in Yellow with 4 Sp & T Tops! My local dealer didn't have one so I called the dealers in surrounding towns & found one an hour away. I drove out there in my 77 Camaro that only had 15K miles & was about as nice as a 15K car can be to make the trade. Anyhow to make a long story short that dealer kept re-hashing the numbers but anyhow you figured it out looking closely at the numbers he was giving me almost nothing for my car. So I waited one year till the old car was paid off at bought a super nice 79 Gold Edition Trans Am with T Tops & 4 Speed. I kept that car for many years & it only had 32K when I sold it 20+ years later. Those were the hot cars for a 19 year old back then!

Timeless design, wicked color. They also felt fast for the 180 hp it had. Good one Lou!!

My buddy had a black 79, then a dark blue 81 Z. I always liked his 81 better, it had the operational hood air intake. But, wish his 81 had the 350 like the 79 did. I had my father's hand me down 78 stripped down Camaro with a 305 and automatic, but my buddy wrapped it around a light pole late one night while I was away. I had already ordered/paid for a new 305 long block, only to find the Camaro more or less totaled when I got back....Learned alot about body work that winter, we tore the thing apart in his garage while his parents' nice cars spent the winter outside. Piecing that thing back together made our friendship stronger.

Another great job Lou! I can honestly say I've NEVER seen one of these in that unusual color! Anderson Cooper speaks of the day his Mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, decided she was going to buy herself a car to drive around in and came home with a '79 Z-28, which by the way SHE LOVED!

Nice example. My brother had a '75 in midnight-blue. He raised the rear up a bit, put Cragar SS's on it (deep dish in the back, of course!) and lettered tires. These were the cars young people wanted up into the early '80's. I don't get now how the young generation is happy with one of these "jelly-bean" sedans. Eeeek! They don't know the fun they missed.
