1978 Rolleiflex SL35 E - Vintage Film Camera

Ғылым және технология

The Rolleiflex SL35 E was one of the later 35mm SLR additions to the Rolleiflex range. Rollei has a complicated history but they made some lovely cameras. This one is no exception. Manufactured in Singapore from 1978, it has a twin made by Voigtländer called the VSL 3E. Both use the QBM mount.

That looks like a great little SLR! I'm a big fan of Rollei; one of my favourite cameras is my Rolleiflex 2.8F TLR. Thanks for the tour of the SL35E!

Thanks Alex, yeah I have to say every Rolleiflex I've come across has been cracking. Thanks for watching!

I always fancied a Rolleiflex SL35E for access to the wonderful lenses it supported, Rollei, Zeiss, Voigtlander, but was always put off by the camera's rumoured unreliability. That said, I owned a 3003 for a couple of years without problem and still regularly use a 6002 that I bought in 1988.

At 9:08 you note that the button on the left side of the lens mount locks the exposure. It doesn't. It just sets the depth of field preview by stopping down the lens, a feature carried forward from the earlier models. Wonderful video of one of my favorite daily shooters. Andy

Interesting and I have one so more relevant, little surprised that you have a rusty old strap ring on the camera as that won’t do anything any good, as rust continues and bits will drop off and it’s also a rough surface so would scratch anything it touched, it’s a long throw on the shutter lever and that’s normal as I’ve read, but a little worrying the first time you use it. Great info on camera and perhaps the acid test is to run a roll through and perhaps use the double take!

Hi!Nice video! I just got this camera today, found a strange thing: this camera seems have the A fonction but if you switch the shutter speed dial to the actual speed, it indicates only the shutter speed that you dial but does not tell you if you were over or under exposed… have you found the same thing ?

I have not noticed that no, but mine currently doesn't have a battery so I cannot check sorry. Thanks for watching though.

You said there was no battery in but still able to fire the shutter? Thought it was an electronic shutter on this model.

No the shutter is mechanical and does not need a battery. However the light meter does.

@@sccjono If you fire it without batteries it fires at 1/125 of a second.
