    I've been a huge fan of Cadillac ever since driving a Cadillac Coupe Deville as a 17 years old teenager , that 5 weeks drive began a love affair with these great cars. I have owned Eldos and Fleetwood's and this Coupe Deville looks absolutely fabulous.

    I was about 11 or 12 years old when my dad drove me home in his pride and joy, a 1978 Cadillac that looks identical to this one.

    I love the 77-78 Cadillacs first downsize style, still big but had elegant,clean, sophisticated body styles and this car is a brilliant, surviving, example!,love the original wheel covers and goergous metallic chestnut colour!!this is a beautiful Cadillac!

    I think of these as being the last really good Cadillacs before the 'Dark Years'. The drivetrain is really unbeatable. You've got a very special car there. Thank you for the video. Love the original wheel covers and radio!

    If you're including the engine in that I owned one and the 425 was not so gr8 Also if the poor soul who bought one had the diesel engine they were REALLY junk and GM knew it because if you got the notion to tow something GM would cancel any warranty if there was any sign of trying to put a trailer hitch on it. They never told anyone that until they tried to collect on a repair while it was under warranty with the hitch. The car was nice to drive I live I n Virginia amd drove mine to Cali twice

    I had a 77 CDV. Drove like silk. Engine was really weak. So the 502 that replaced it woke this beautiful beast up. Sounded like ripping silk with the right exhaust. Sold it with 34k miles. Had everything m, moon roof, dual power leather seats. A rust free southern car. Should have kept it. Just a smooth riding car. NOT a back road burner. Brother owns it and the original 425. Has only put 186 miles on it. Sits in a climate controlled garage and is started up weekly, washed n waxed, detailed monthly. What a car. Really nice Caddy you have here.

    These cars are soaring in value. A friend of mine picked up this car's kissing cousin, a 1978 Buick Electra with about 13,000 miles on it. He bought it for $8K, had it detailed and a few minor repairs completed, then put in on BAT (Bring a Trailer) to auction. It sold for $19,000. This one is equally as nice. Hold onto her.

    I had a 79 which was the same car but with the chrome inside the tail light lenses and the grille and steering wheel centers were different. Mine was as cold natured as any car I ever owned. Yes it would start right up but the very second you put your foot on the gas with it in gear it would cut off. Also the first errand you went on until you hit the first hill it didn't want to do any type of acceleration! After that it was OK. Mine had the 425 as well which was not such a great engine. It was low compression and at least Mine if you really gave it the gas it couldn't get out of its own way. I did 2 trips to California and really loved the drive of the car. It was comfy with a dash of sport to it. My 79 was black with the vinyl half or qtr top which was also black with red leather interior. It was loaded. Had every option except for the sunroof. Beverly Hills Cadillac found the problem with the cold starts when I was out there on one of my trips when it decided it wasn't gonna start. I live in Virginia. These cars have a tendency to be hard on rear wheel bearings so if you decide to keep it a while keep your ears open for a roar from the back and smoke or smell from the rear tire area. I sold mine when my Father became ill and bought a 72 Pontiac Grand Prix which will always be my favorite.

    My 78 Coupe was also owned by A Very Old Man and parked in a garage for 30 years before I got it no rear defrost no trunk release but it has the Elegance bill of seats and the stainless trim on the outside. All that Chrome I take off and have a high-speed polishing wheel and polish it all and put it back on I've done that with many of my classic cars does great the front turn indicators on that car yellow I got all the white ones I could find from the 1977 models put them in my Cadillac so that I could use the Switchback bulbs that means the parking light is white and the blinks yellow it's an LED bulb with a chip in it they're called 11:56 1157 Switchback bulbs and they're wonderful. I sure hope you took the catalytic converter off of that car soon as I replace my exhaust system and got rid of that in my car really drives fantastic. The hesitation in the carburetor went away when I got rid of that converter. And my car looks so good with mirror window tint. Has 62,000 miles. Soon it'll be time to park it for summer and drive something that has a custom Modified souped-up air conditioner in it. My 240D Mercedes that runs on used engine oil.

    Nice 78 and had the rare accent trim along the sides of the car. Very rare. Wish my 78 Coupe came with this option. Mine has all the options with the exception of level ride, and the d'Elegance interior. It has leather seats, dual power 6-way seats with passenger side power recline, astroroof. Small black and white video on my page for y'all to see.

    Probably the fuel filter in the side of the carburetor stopped up because I saw the dash pot light on in the dash or the dashpot that is bolted on the firewall could be bad. It's got a vacuum line and a electric plug in and right next to the brake booster

  • @edgarherrera5085

    @edgarherrera5085

    Fuel filter is inline at the carburetor. That yellow dot is for the fuel economy switch. Once car is idling it'll change to green. It's located at the firewall. When you floor it, it'll switch to yellow.

    Let the ignition ding till its done dinging then pump pedal 5 or 6 times before turning key. I owned a 1979 for 20 years. note do quick fast abrupt pumps don't hold down pedal at all to much! Also I bet the neighbors were jealous! Lol

    I was just telling him about my 79 being the coldest natured car I ever owned. I could hit the gas once and sure it would start right up but when you put it in gear the very second you touched the gas it would cut off. Beverly Hills Cadillac fixed it on one of my trips to LA with it.

    Replace the brake lines! My '77 Deville came from upstate NY and after many winters it found the weak link in not one, but 2 lines. First one burst and I replaced it and then the next one burst on the next test drive. Scary stuff. Check out the Cadillac Forums online. Lots of good info from lots of enthusiasts world wide. My black with red gut '77 Deville is waving high at your beauty!

    One brake line was replaced when I got the car. It rusted out where some mud accumulated at the low point of the frame crossmember by the oil pan. The rest of that line looked like it was put in yesterday. All the other lines look almost factory fresh.

    I have a 78 fleetwood while the car has been on for a while if I turn the key backwards a little not enough to turn the car off but just a bit the stop engine temp light comes on Why is this? If it were overheating which light comes on first the orange coolant temp one or the red stop engine temp I can’t tell if I’m getting an accurate reading or not :/ please help

  • @86753091987

    @86753091987

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sounds like there is some misalignment in the steering column, there is a switch connected to the key cylinder that tests that light circuit when you put the key in. Orange coolant temp light comes on at 235f and stop engine temp comes on when the metal temp is like 260. It should be orange first then red. I wouldnt worry about it coming on when moving the key.

  • @iflipbricks

    @iflipbricks

    I really appreciate your prompt response. I’ve been going crazy thinking the car is overheating. I bought an IR gun but it wasn’t too accurate. I just wonder why the light doesn’t come on right away when I move the key backwards. It only comes on after the cars been on for a while which is what had made me suspect that the car was overheating. Also when the light does appear and I turn off the car and all the windows fog up especially the windshield. The heater core is bypassed but it stayed clicking could there be air in the system? I started her up last night and let her idle for 20 min with the radiator cap off and saw some bubbles but the coolant wasn’t spilling out or anything. The light eventually reappeared when I moved the key even with the rad cap off
