1978-1987 BUICK REGAL POWER ANTENNA FAILURE / "This time it was my bad" !

Ойын-сауық

This video depicts a power Antenna removal / replacement of the mast cord on a 1980 Buick Regal "A" car. I soon learned that I had ALREADY DONE THIS ONE (two years earlier / & I had forgotton), and I didn't thread it onto the mast securely and it came off and failed AGAIN ... IOW it wouldn't "limit-out" (or stop running). REMEDY: Just a bit of Lock-Tite" did the trick to fix this one, and it's all set now. Have a laugh !!

    You know. Tom, when you took off that rocker panel, the first thing my stupid OCD brain thought was, "Hey I need to wax underneath there!" :-) Great video. I too enjoy the tinkering. We are sort of the original environmentalists, when you stop to think about it. Most people would just throw the mast motor out. Not us. We save the planet through constant tinkering.

    "BROTHERS" in another life Joe ? ... "such a remark about an environmentalist (in an A.O.C. World) takes on a GREAT meaning". Anyway: your right !, constantly screwing around is what I love ta do / and I'm hoping that soon I'll get the "train-urge" back. You know, it's funny: "I can't even enter a Restaurant if the entry doors are screaming for oil", ... I'll make my meaning plain when I'm greeted with the lame "how are you" / and I answer with a terrible NOT-GOOD remark just ta throw all that silliness (you don't know me / nor do you care "how I am") aside !. "The look alone tho, is WORTH the reaction". One time I got ("we got") our meals taken care of for bringing such a matter to the owners attn. *I'll greet that person by saying: "could I please have one DUMB Reason why you people wanna replace your door plates" ? / "for Gods sake man; OIL THOSE HINGES" !!! "LOL" Yeah: some days the 'tinkering-overdrive' is bad / "all part of the DISORDER" ?. BEAUTIFUL. "I'm there". :- )

    I have all of those cars that you preface, and trust me; they don't even garner "passive interest". (See my 84 Hurst I had here as well). Anyway, I'm HOPEFUL that one day the interest / or the "want" of these cars will increase ... but for now, "if it isn't a Chevelle or a Mustang / maybe a Corvette", there is very little interest ... and it will likely die "with us". After that: "JuMpInG CaRs" seem to be all the rage with 50" rims. "I guess we all love our cars" / and thx. none the less Rockford. :- )

    Hey I’ve been watching your videos but figured you would know if the 1980 3.8 turbos have a throttle position sensor? Or what would be good things to check for a stall when I hit the gas? Thanks anyway nice vids

    Hi Dennis, we called that "triple C" ... (or: "computer command control"), and NO, I don't remember the 80 year TURBO having that "O.B.D. Gen. 1" System. SO: If your "flat" (outa the hole / from a stop / and HESITATING), I'd look carefully (*and this is easy) at the acl. pump DISCHARGE. You'll see the acl. pump plunger *(under the lever that cams up & down just atop of it) ...SO: motion it up and down / or DISCHARGE the fuel ... The TEST: *with the engine idling; if you put your fingernail atop of of it (the pump lever shaft that ascends INSIDE the Carb.), and plunge it down-word (up n' down), the FUEL you just "shot-down" the primary (or FRONT Barrels) should literally almost STALL THE ENGINE out (or flood it) EACH TIME IT'S DEPRESSED. If in doing the above / you find it has NO (or little effect), there are two possibilities as too the "why" / (or what's the matter) 1: a stuck check-ball in the pump well (it works like a sump crock check-ball), NOT "CHECKING" the Fuel. 2) a rotten / faulty pump "cup" that's so old / it's fallen apart. So again: when you depress the acl., you should be able to look down the PRIMARY (or the front barrels) and see that "discharge" each time that lever (It's usually a green Teflon color) articulates up and down. That figuratively IS the "T.P.S." Sensor. Other possible reasons: no vacuum advance at the distributor / or no vacuum on the acceleration curve TO the Dist. / hope that helps.

    i think i may have a faulty power antenna relay on my 87 pontiac safari wagon. the power antenna hasnt moved since i got the car a few years back. to test whether the antenna itself is functional i imagine i can disconnect the power connector from the antenna that is under my hood and then run lead wires from a battery directly to the wires on the power connector. if it runs then the antenna is good and my culprit is the relay or something else besides the antenna itself. sound right?

    "Somewhat" ... (I had an 87 Caprice Estate Wagon / BEAUTIFUL car !). Lets ask this: do you hear a "click" in the "QUIET" of the car upon turning the radio ON & OFF ? ... ALSO: DO the "courtesy lights / dome lights / and the cigarette lighter work ? / *(were looking for a possible blown fuse here, *as these fuses "feed" the antenna circuit it's "pwr." too) ... and after that, (in the MAJORITY of examples); the issue is usually in the antenna assy. itself. Suggestion: If you can come up with a 'test light': there are 3 wires: the "outer" wires (on the connector) are "direction up / & direction down, and the center is ground. Lets clip that test light to a ground / and then we can check (or probe) BOTH of the outer wires / while you AGAIN: turn the radio "on and off". Again: in having done many, many hundreds of these, the issue is usually always 1) "a blown fuse" (or no "clicking"), or 2) the Ant. unit itself. (usually the cord breaks and it runs itself to death) ... Relays will / and can occur as well, but this is VERY VERY rare (a relay failure) / in MY opinion. BEST OF LUCK.

    @@TommyZTrains i hear no click and upon removal and attachment of the relay with wire leads to a 12v battery i cant generate a click either which leads me to the hope of just a blown relay , a simple fix. my cigarette lighter, courtesy light, and dome light all work and none of my fuses are blown. man, a blown motor? i didnt consider that. i hope not. im mentally preparing myself to pull off that tire and fender piece and pull out the antenna to replace the cable, but only if i have to. i will put a test light on the connector as soon as my new relay gets here tomorrow or the next day. thank you

    @@TommyZTrains thank you so much. after it didnt work after putting in my new relay, upon your suggestion, i took a test light to the power connector under my hood. i saw that i was sending power past the relay and it was getting to the connector. but putting the tip of the test light on the opposite side of the connector plug showed that no electricity was going through. so i took the connector apart and thoroughly cleaned both connecting ends. i put it back together and it works. now i just gotta lube it up because its been sitting in one position for who knows how many years and sounds like it has too when going up and down. thank you

    what type of plastic clips do you use for mud flaps

  • @TommyZTrains

    @TommyZTrains

    Жыл бұрын

    Those clips came WITH the Mudd Flaps and are a standard clip (like in this era's a-typical GM Radio 'hold-down' clip), only INSTEAD of a fine threaded "bolt-thread" (with the std. 10mm nut), they have a square-shanked machine screw thread that clips-in that same "holder" (thus locking it in place so it won't turn), and THEN it's cinched-up BEHIND the wheel-opening molding / only these have a plastic wing-nut to secure them with. (like u said) End run: ("and I suppose the reason why"), NO hole need-be drilled = no rust / or alteration.
