Nice to hear that bell - or "gong" as the police called them - made by Julius Sax. And fair play to the company who converted these cars to Met Police specification (or did the Met do the work themselves?) because they managed to squeeze not only the two tone horns into the engine bay, but the bell too. You can just see it below the horns at 0:19

I used to drive these in the met. Wonderful cars with that V8. The roof lights were great, I don't know why they dropped that idea. You could pull at the end of an alley, turn the light into the alley and bingo if anyone was skulking around. Then they went all woke and painted up the jam sandwich so everyone including criminals could see it coming a mile off.

Were these incident response vehicles then? From what I can find, these were on the road at the same time as the Morris Minor panda cars.

It was R reg when I first became aware as a 6 yr old of car registrations ! lovely car I have a few p6 1.43 models , this one [ the exact royal protection one i have in 1.43 , but I also have a nice cream coloured police carin 1.18 with a red stripe and the same big spotlights ect. , there is a car almost identical on this page but it is white , trhey were lovely cars prefer them to the later ones .

That is indeed an amazing car, especially in that guise with that lovely history, these P6’s drive amazing, smell amazing and sound amazing, they are a fast, handsome 70’s British muscle car. Like all of us I don’t own my classics to show off but, I own them because they are like a time machine to the 60’s and 70’s, I own own a near mint 66 two door Cortina and that gets quite a bit of attention, but when I’m out in my 74 p6 in Lunar grey, 3500 auto with Black vinyl roof and black box pleat leather I find I get mobbed with attention, and boy does it drive well, an absolute pleasure that you just don’t care that it’s juicy 👍🏼 I’d love to own this cop car version... the holy grail of p6 that is.

I was using a Rover Montego with a cut out switch a previous owner had fitted, tried to steal it a couple of times without success.

I always believed that the police versions were v8s’s. Ergo manual versions. This is an automatic?
