Dan Dan the Datsun man was also a Datsun Dealership in North London up until the 1980s, possibly later - the name survived the Datsun-Nissan rebrand for a while.

He is still in operation! Dan Perkins Subaru in Milford, CT (USA) and Honda of Westport, also in CT.

I was a kid when these ads were produced, but I seem to remember some additional ads featuring "Dan" made specifically for the Fremont Datsun/Nissan dealership. Usually saw them late night on "The Movies" on KPIX 5. The Fremont ads aired for a while after the Datsun brand was renamed Nissan. Of course. I was confused about why the spokeswoman had a guy's name! 😂

"Dan the Datsun Man" was played by Candice Boone and the commercials were for 1977 and 1978 model Datsuns.

What happened to her?

"Dan The Datsun Man" was a very popular ad campaign in Northern California circa 1977-78. "Dan" was so popular she was featured in the Rodeo Parade in Livermore CA in 1978. I've been wondering what her real name is for years.

I don't remember it at all- why did they call her that? This kind of feels like watching a random Burger King "Herb" commercial without knowing the setup.

@@TheMediaHoarder I know what you mean. I haven't been able to find anything regarding the campaign. I remember the commercials aired constantly when I was in junior high. I was in marching band in the Livermore Rodeo parade in '78 and it was a big deal to have her featured.

My dad was General Manager of Hayward Datsun in those days. I asked him why she was called Dan, since I was about 15 and she looked liked the woman of my dreams, instead of a Dan. He chuckled and said that was decided by the Northern California Datsun dealer association, he didn’t know why, and the owner (Ernie Ivaldi) probably went to that meeting. My dad’s name was Dan, so it made it a little funnier to me. She came to the store once and had her picture taken with him, I sure wish I knew where it went. Dedicated to my dad, Danny Teves (1939-2017) and the late Ernie Ivaldi, who always liked me and I never knew why.
