Notice how the players are not celebrating after every play and are respectful to each other with no taunting!

Gowdy did everything. Football, baseball and basketball. A talented guy.

You bet. The 70's were great for power running teams: Wishbone, I-Formation, Veer, et al.

Same match up 10 years later. Was at the '85 game as a kid.

For John McKay, the hell of 26 straight losses at Tampa would begin the next year. This would be the glory days for McKay

2 years later.He coached his last year at USC in 75.Trojans beat Texas A&M in Liberty Bowl

I was at this game. 10 yd line about half way up.

13:05 #12 for Ohio State (that's Tim Fox) gets absolutely leveled just after the tackle was made. That's why you can never let up when you are near the spot where the tackle takes place. 14:38 Fox gets back in the game and blocks the punt.

Ohio State made too many mistakes on offense, the false start penalty, the second fumble by Griffin, and the poor interception thrown by Greene. But credit USC, who ran the ball with a lot of success. Ohio State did not record a sack and I think that was a big factor in the game. Also, the last drive by the Buckeyes was a mess, with Greene taking a sack. Still a great, hard hitting, entertaining game.

Both team's D-Ls are well off of the ball. Interesting. 35:02 Some guy named Marcus Allen with a nice tackle.... 37:37 SC brings pressure off the edge and Green shows his brilliance. SC has some great depth at FB. Mosi Tatupu (14 yrs in the NFL!) is the 3rd stringer...

Even after all these years this particular Rose Bowl loss was the worst to take. We had multiple chances to bury USC and blew them all. Pat Haden's tackle of Neil Colzie after the interception saved USC's bacon.

How did you sneak this in? Curt Gowdy and Tony Kubek were in my wheelhouse. Great baseball and great times. Watched ball hiding magician Rex Kern in 69 Rose Bowl. Ohio State was the best team, but OJ was The Beast.

@@WillMuny A little more relevant detail on the Rose Bowl. You show only 5 RB losses (although you state "7") but all five of those RB losses were to only two teams!! (Mich and Ohio State). So the Rose Bowl game is even more a dominant showing for SC....

HORRIBLE OFFICIATING BOTH WAYS IN THIS GAME..WOW

Cornelius Greene made some poor throws that led to interceptions in this game, just like in the 1976 Rose Bowl. UCLA had the superior QB in that game (John Sciarra), and USC's Pat Haden was also superior to Greene in this game. That's probably why we lost both games.

You are right, but also that is why the Pac 8/10 was so dominant from 66-87 (Rose Bowl years, 65-86 in regular season years). The Pac went 18-4 in a 22 year period. Granted most were USC then UCLA wins, USC with 8 Wins and UCLA with 5 wins. But Washington and Stanford had 2 wins each and even Arizona State had a win. Though I think that ASU win broke the old school mentality for the Big 10 and they changed.

@@WillMuny I grew up as an Ohio State fan and suffered through those years (which included a bunch of losses to Michigan). If I had to boil down why the Pac 8/10 went 16-2 in the Rose Bowl during 1970-87, it would be the QB position. Bo and Woody always got running QB's, not passing QB's. In the Rose Bowl's, when it came time to step up and pass, the Michigan and OSU QB's came up short. They just couldn't produce.

Gee over a forty game career, not allowed a great game in a hard fought defense battle? And oh yeah, he never murdered anyone.

I love the fact that it is nearly 50 years later, and the team uniforms are basically the same (except now buckeye stickers on OSU helmets.) Can't believe that these two teams are going to be in same conference.

Too bad Buckeyes didn't win a Natty during Griffin years even with going to Rose Bowl 4 times.

Was recruited to run the option, very successfully as well. Very few teams used passing plays in the Sixties and Seventies.
