1973 Mercedes w114 / w115 types 200 - 230.4 - 230.6

In September 1973, the whole 114/115 series underwent extensive model revision; countless details, which had been introduced into the SL and SLC Types respectively, and also in the S-Class now were incorporated into the models of the less prestigious product line, improving the general safety concept. To name but a few: exterior rear mirrors, which could be adjusted from inside the car, dirt repelling decorative trims at the A-pillars, which kept the side windows clean even in poor weather, profiled, soil-repellent taillights as well as a roof rail at the rear window. The four-spoke security steering wheel, which was a familiar feature of product lines 107 and 116, had been integrated into serial production of the "Stroke Eight" types half a year prior to model revision. From March 1973, head rests and automatic safety belts became part of the serial equipment of 114/115 series models. As part of the facelift carried out in August 1973 two new 4-cylinder engines were introduced; the 240 D was now the top Diesel model and the 230.4 replaced the 220. The suffix Ř" in the designation of the new 230 was necessary to avoid confusion with the original 230 model with a 6-cylinder engine, which was still available as the 230.6.

Great car to see, in the 60s and 70s they had much cooler models than now.

I always liked these, very crisp and clean styling. Not to be compared to the sheer beauty of the late 60s models, of course!

I had a 1972 model 200 gas engine 4 speed standard, big sunroof, 4 wheel disc brakes, Bilstein gas shocks, white with red interior - European headlights, so far advanced over NA cars. Was a great running and handling car. Was not a 1/4 mile drag race performer but could run all day and all night flawlessly at highway speeds over any kind of roads!!

At the time you knew why you had to pay more for a Mercedes (superb design, superb manufacturing, superb performance), and the other drivers on the road knew it too.

My parents used to have a white 200 from 1968 when I was a little kid. It had a blue interior and red leather patches with a white Mercedes star between the headlights and the grille. I don't remember it but I have seen pictures. There is also pictures of this car towing my uncle's black hot rodded 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 after one of it's frequent breakdowns. The car used to belong to my grandad who bought it some time around the mid 1970s. And my mom started driving it in 1982 when he bought a W123. The 200 had no steering servo, hardly any accessories, and it was quite slow. But it was solid as a mountain.
