I am fairly confident that the front is stock length or very close, like he said the smaller rear wheel gives somewhat of an optical illusion ,if you will. But I believe the biggest contributer to the longer tube illusion is the fact that headlight is pedestal mounted and exposes the entire fork, if you imagine a stock AMF XL headlight bucket and eyebrow trim in the stock position, I believe that it would look a lot closer to stock. Very, very nice ride! I have owned several of these righthand iron head XL's. Love em, but this is a whole nuther level and as a former drag racer I can appreciate the attention to his enovative performance efforts. Thanks for letting us check it out...

That thing RIPS. That man is so humble and he really made a piece of art. Keep the paint the way it is I’d say...

Woah that's a trip that rear wheel was made to look like a solid aluminum rim but it's actually covering spokes? Is that what I heard?

Yes, that is correct. I spun the shape on a big lathe. Old School Metal Spinning.

WOW...i had a 1975 xlch but nothing like that..thats a sweet sporty. Bought my old sportster for 300 bucks Canadian...held onto it for three years. Was locked up when i bought it...i managed to free it up and take it for a few miles. Loved it...tall gears...sold it for a cool grand to a buddy who wanted to restore it for his wife. My shift peg was left side though and no electric starter. Kicking it over was a challenge...them points and carb had to be just right or she was just not gunna go! Still got bruises from kicking that bike over lol...i think mine was 63.4ci or 64.3ci i forget. Was what i think was a 1000..i could be wrong. lol they use to say those old bikes had two oil leaks...one at the showroom and one at your garage lol.

I owned a 1975 xlch sportster back in the day and it had electric start only, bought it new. Went through a couple of idler gears but that's about it and put about 17,000 miles on it before trading it in.

Dave Ford thanks David this is one of those rare occasions where we got more than we bargained for in the bike is better than I could have ever hoped for you did an amazing job with this motorcycle building it in maintaining it for 45 years!

Your welcome Ken. Things that have come to me since we spoke is that we had all the reciprocating weight pieces blue printed and balanced as well. Not only were the Heads Dual Plugged but Baisley High Performance Ported, Polished and Flow Benched them as well. The Valve Geometry was also reworked to accommodate up to .625 Lift Cams.

Very nice bike Dave. Obviously a work of love. Were you selling for health reasons?

  • @s3gts

Thanks Kevin, No, health is fine. Once I moved on to larger bikes I parked the Sporty. Golf took over my adult life and even have made custom golf bag mounts for my Road King & 2018 Milwaukee 8 Softail Deluxe. I bought the Sporty at age 20 and sold it a 64. As I reflect back, I developed my skills as a builder on this bike. (Machining, Painting, Engineering, etc). It was time for others to enjoy.
