Nice video! I see you are not using the free-wheeling (you use the clutch at every shift), do you prefer that? Free-wheeling is engaged with the little T-shape handle above the throttle pedal. It takes away your engine braking (its originally there for the older 2-stroke versions) but allows you to shift up and down without using the clutch. I use it all the time in my 1973 96 V4 but it does require a little getting used to. Also not advised to use on downhills.

I had a new 96 V4 (red) back in 1972 and always used the freewheel. I found the ‘pre-select’ I could do when approaching roundabouts and junctions particularly useful. The large disc brakes on the front gave a real sense of security going downhill. The 96 V4 was definitely one of my all time favourite cars.

I always have the freewheel engaged on my 96, but in spite of that I always use the clutch when shifting out of habit 😂 It might not be strictly necessary, but my instinct tells me to always trample down that pedal for shifting, not because I am thinking of any genius reason to do this but simply because I am not thinking 😂

what is kind of transmission?

The only problems its that, the gearbox its too low fore the speed. I weel like to see, if there its, or not a problem too put in, a 5th gear so the turns go down, when you drive in 90km/h fore example.

No 5-speed available that fits in a 96. Actually a 4-speed was already a upgrade from the 3-speed in its predecessor. Speed limits in Sweden were not that high (and still aren't). But I drive mine at about 120km/h/70mph for longer trips and when you get used to the noise level it does that fine. Also too much risk you drive the engine at too low revs if you alter it.

My 96 have 3000rpm in 90km/h. And my 5speed golf is 2800rpm in 90. But it sounds louder in the saab 96.
