100% agree. Ram / Red Rose / Band on the Run..... he just had it all going on there. Songwriting and some of his best-ever recorded vocals.

Linda was such a beautiful person

I wholeheartedly agree with Paul and Linda's important message to the British government which they delivered in their song " Give Ireland Back To The Irish " in 1972 . Every ethnicity or culture has the right to self-determination in order to protect its language and its culture ... and that includes the Celtic peoples in western Europe . The only jurisdiction in the whole of the world where Celts have autonomy is in the Republic of Ireland . So ; I say to Britain ... give Ireland back to the Irish Gaels ... and ... give Scotland back to the Scottish Gaels ... and ... give Wales back to the Welsh ( Cymry ) . Peace and good health to you ... Miles from Canada .

Thank you very very much Paul and Linda.

Many people like to downgrade the seriousness & depths of Paul’s song catalogue. And I may have been one of the most vociferous in spreading this view, probably bc of my profound respect for John Lenon & the depth of his life & music. In addition , the almost unforgivable release of Paul’s “Silly Love Songs” barf!, “Say, Say, Say”, etc. weighed heavy, as well! However, I’ve been playing alot of the Beatles catalogue from ‘62 to ‘69 when their last album, “Let it Be” was released. This has led me to re-evaluate my unlearned opinion of Paul as one of the truly great musicians (both lyrics & arrangements) of our time. If u r one who shares my original opinion - I would encourage u to go back one more time & maybe u will come around, as well. If u do, u will only b giving urself an opportunity to hear (for really, the 1st x in my case) an incredibly diverse & trail blazing catalogue from the early ‘70’s on…. …. And, of course, this does not diminish my huge appreciation for most, if not all things John Lennon. . (It’s a shame he was Murdered so suddenly. Had he lived out he 30-40 additional years that many of us get - I suspect he would have re-evaluated his whole outlook on Jesus Christ & Christianity, in general. What’s more - he would’ve let us know about any changes in this position of his; because he was first & foremost after one thing : The Truth. ….and he would have discovered the truth in Jesus Christ, I believe….. Well, that’s my opinion, anyway… Peace……

I think McCartney is nervous because he doesn't have a firm background on the subject. He also doesn't want to lose British record sales, either. I am distracted by his gorgeous face.

He really knew about he wrote in the song. Maybe, the journalists and interviewers thought Paul didn't understand a thing about this topic but you can notice how he explained his opinion and give to the interviewer facts and information about the situation. For me, it was amazing he got dare to say loud about the injustice of Irish. This wasn't about to be British or not, it wasn't about nationality: it was about humanity like he said, you can't acting like if there's nothing wrong around you and it's good people that like Paul talks about political topics because the artists are able to spread the message to more people about "hey, looking around and see all the troubles and problems of our world, don't look away!". Few years ago, he released another song in his album Egypt Station which is Despite Repeated Warnings, a song where Paul criticize all these goverments and politics who don't do nothing for the enviroments. It's a song less tough than Give irland back to the Irish, but the message is so convincing and overwhelming.

This song is one of my favorites. A political song, in the same line of John's Luck of the Irish, released in the same year, 1972. Great interview too, Paul and Linda a little bit stoned, but great as always. Mccartney is a force of nature, a living legend!

The one time Paul followed John's lead and put his real feelings on an issue that mattered (unlike the lyrical nothingness of his usual songs) into a song. You will notice that this track has never been made available on any album or compilation - Paul has specifically disallowed this.

"lyrical nothingness" lmao, just because he keeps his political views separate from his music? he made quite a few songs where he is expressing his opinion over various, as you put it, issues that matter. wild life, big boys bickering, all my trials, looking for changes, despite repeated warnings.. and let's not act like john invited "political" songs.

Almost every song Paul creates has some meaning. Don't be a sheep and listen for yourself. And even if some songs don't mean much, he still puts a lot of effort into the musical side of things.

Paul made reasonable comments imo. He referred to the Plantation of Ulster where the British purposely put English and Scottish settlers particularly in the North East of Ireland and drove the Irish of their land Sadly I never got to see him play live in Belfast. I suspect he steered clear of the North after writing this song .

I only recently came across this video And I am from Dublin I live in England and I agree with Sir Paul McCartney but this must be achieved Peacefully the Nationalists and the Unionists must respect each other only then we will see peaceful Northern Ireland or a United Ireland

For what it's worth, I am English but I think that you guys can do it. Back in 1921 the British establishment were predicting wholesale murder of the sizeable Protestant minority who live in the Republic. It never happened. I mean, they even included an orange segment on the flag, which is there for a reason; namely that the government was representative of all it's citizens - Catholic or Protestant! And a century later, there is still no wholesale murder of Protestants in the Republic. Also, as a matter of fact, some Irish nationalists of the past were actually Protestant, Theobald Wolfe being one of them. Reunion is going to happen at some point. Major first and then Blair, worked on and backed the same agreement - the 'Twin Track' approach with Bertie Aherne. But just like with the Balfour Declaration of 1917, concerning the middle/near east, they had to create an unspecified time frame for a similar and almost equally complex problem, which if implemented immediately would lead to all kinds of upheaval. That's why Labour and the Tories, with the Lib Dems also in agreement are behind it because the sane politicians recognise the inevitable but know that an instant decision could lead to insane consequences. When it does happen I wish you well. I hate what Westminster stands for but know that I will never be able to escape its greed and corruption but fair play to anyone who can.

JeffGR4 Who are you to determine what Paul’s heritage is? His mother came from an Irish Catholic family. His father James’ surname McCartney has Irish roots, but he also had English and Scottish heritage because he was Protestant. He is British, with some Irish heritage.

Probably, the influences of her husband. In many ocassions, Paul spoke with American accent too. And, if you listen the speaking of their children, they have a mix speaking between British and American accent.

Just because you invade a country don't mean you can keep it, that's something that unionists will have to accept in Northern Ireland , it belongs to Ireland the State , no amount of centuries old waffle and allegiance can change that fact. Give it back, and if you don't like to live with us, go to the UK .

Ireland was in reality given to the Normans or so called English and not taken from the Irish. The great grandson of Brian Boru King Diarmait Mac Murchada invited the English over first to help his side in a civil war. Then king Diarmait gave lands to the English as payment. The English seen the weakness of the defeated group and went and took their lands too with the support of King Diarmait. So, with king Diarmait`s Irish army joining the English army to help them try to take the rest of Ireland leaves a big question regarding Irish history. The Ulster kings ( O Neill and O donnell) held out well but over time they too were defeated In reality the English were Normans who were not invaders but invited mercenaries Moreover most of those so called English only spoke french as they were Normans

While I don't disagree with the song's sentiment, this has to be one of the murkiest, most lumpen, most tuneless songs McCartney ever wrote (and that beats a lot of competition). Hard to decide who had the worst pro-Ireland song; Lennon's was a monstrosity too.

The McCartney's and The Harrison family were known as lower Working class as far as Great Britain considered them. Paul was chosen by his teachers to enter into a job at a hardware store when he graduated. George's Dad was a Bus Driver. John's Aunt Mimi who raised him did not approve of these "working Class boys" coming round-that is Paul and George. She did warm up to them of course. And so At least Paul's and Georges lives were not "privileged.
