Early try out for the penalties deciding a drawn tie. Albion lost.

..@//0.32 smart finish from Dave Simmonds; he caused mayhem against Leeds months before in the FA Cup at Layer Road going 3-0 up, eventually causing a huge cup shock winning 3-2. Amazing game here, 1st division vs 4th, I think; some terrible defensive errors, and a very wayward penalty at the end. I well remember Dave Simmonds at Villa, a battering ram centre forward but mobile also; there for approx. 18 months from early 1969. He played a crucial role in keeping us up 1968/9; but remarkably was largely ignored by the boss Tommy Docherty at the start of the 1969/70 season, the fateful, humiliating year when Villa crashed into the old Third Division. Excluding Dave and also Brian Godfrey cost us dear; had they played the full season, I think we would have stayed up.

am i correct with my memory of the cup that you could only be offside inside the box. which led to some great matches.

Two superb strikes from Mick Mahon, really with better defending Colchester should have won inside 90 mins. Was there extra time? Look closely at Cumbes for that penalty @ 1-02, why didn't he dive full stretch, it looks to me like he would have saved it? He was just as erratic and unpredictable when he moved on to my team Villa.

Last final appearance? But if you count the Watney cup, why not the Tennant Caledonian in '77?

That was pretty much the Colchester side which beat the great Leeds team in the FA Cup.

@ 1-26...cardinal, schoolboy error as Lan Cantello leans back as he is about to hit the ball from the penalty spot. Shame about the poor camera work, if it had been slightly more to the right, it would have shown he missed by what, 10-15 feet?
