Classic Matches, Thanks for providing this very pleasant tribute to Sir Matt, who built a club in ruins to win the European Cup, almost paying with his life along the way. So many in this programme now sadly departed-may God rest them all.🙏

Well I was about 10 and living in Norfolk when the news of the Munich crash came on the radio. We were all shocked of course and Football was just about everything back in those days. My father worked on a farm and every week filled in the Littlewoods coupons hoping to win big. After the Munich crash I became a Man Utd fan and, when in the Royal Navy in 1968, was fortunate to get two tickets to the 1968 European Cup Final at Wembley v Benfica. I went there with a guy named Harry from a shore base called HMS Dryad where the Normandy Landings were planned at Southwick House. Thanks for showing this touching tribute to Sir Matt.

Sir Matt who had already sacked one manager that season (Wilf) and eighteen months later would sack another (Frank) and was almost certainly behind the sacking of the FACup winners manager in 1977 (the doc) so maybe not quite as nice a man as everybody thought read Frank O’ Farrells book for the real story.
