The word legend gets thrown around these days but in this TIYL edition I have pays tribute to a genuine legend and Bookmaster Aspel doesn't have to go far to collar him with the book he was actually in the studio next door at Television Centre. Now the person in question from the world of football had an incredible appetite for scoring goals. After getting his big break at Crystal Palace where he made his name in the 1990 FA Cup Final scoring twice against Manchester United to take it to a replay, it was at Arsenal where people remember most fondly winning trophies domestically and in Europe he scored 185 goals for the club breaking the previous record of 178 held by Cliff Bastin in the process only Thierry Henry with 228 goals has scored more. After stints at Celtic and a promotion at Burnley he calved out a media career in and out of the game as a pundit on tv and radio a double act with Kelly Cates, a talkshow Friday Night's All Wright and he's a good hand at gameshows presenting Friends Like These and Wright Around The World to name but a few. Also he's a bit of lunatic his appearance on Top Gear in the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment is hilarious and a must see. Enjoy this one and have your tissues at hand as this episode reduced TV Journalist Kathryn Flett who wrote about this edition when she was at The Observer to tears as Michael Aspel presents The Big Red Book to Arsenal legend Ian Wright Wright Wright

Ian may not be happy with this as he is not with his wife Debbie now. Good to see this old show though, and shame he hasn't discovered Mr Pigden is still alive at the time.

Wrighty looks like he's remembering far harsher times when his mum is trying to make out some lovable family tale....knowing what we now know I doubt if he was delighted his absentee father was there at all. Shows how fake TIYL is. Wrighty's true story of his life is as awful as it is inspiring. His life experience and Mr Pigden's influence are behind all the good works he's got involved in. He wants to make a difference like his teacher made to him.

He was at Celtic at the same time so 1999/2000 eve of the Millennium celebrations (as Ian mentioned as he's surprised).
