Very nice! Oldsmobile cars were known for their "stand still at idle take offs. They did not Sport the rocket emblem for just decorative purposes.

These car are awesome, my Dad had the very first year 1966 white with light blue interior what a car,he owned many olds Starfire,dynamic 88 ,and 1972 Cutlass just to name a few!

Man I would LOVE to have the right 66!

I had a 68 Toro with the W34 engine. I bought it for 100.00 with a bad float. I really loved that car. The only scary is this thing would not stop when on the highway at 130 mph

They only built like 136 of the GTs in 68. I had a 70 GT like the one in the video, loaded to the gills. I miss that car

W34 big block olds 455..same motor as the olds 442..in the 69 -70 model year..400 HP 500 ft lbs of low end torque..screamer for stock motor back then .the w34 was the olds holy Grail motor..

Hi Bill, what an awesome car! My Grandmother had a 1979 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight coupe with a huge V8 engine (weren’t they a 403 or similar?). My parents had a 1983 Olds 98 sedan with a weaker V8. But I’d take them both out to the pasture or back yard and do exactly what made you happy in this video. I’d floor that gas pedal leaving stripes in the pasture. Not abusing the car - just enjoying the raw power. Omgosh the memories. It’s honestly why I enjoy watching your classic driving vids. Flooring those huge Oldsmobile pedals - ever noticed the Toronados had the biggest gas pedals? And I heard both tires spinning when you floored it the last time. I share your appreciation for this generation of cars. Thanks.

Bill this is an awesome one!! I mentioned I have a 66 Toronado. She sounds very similar when I stomp on it from a dead stop. Mines the high compression 425 4V carb car hauls!! By the way what you mentioned is very common with 90% of the Toronados I’ve seen. The chrome tips stick out WAY TOO FAR from where they should. They should just peek out past the bumper cut outs not protrude and be 5-7” lol On the gas gauge disappearing I recall Mine doing that sometimes I recall it being nothing more then a bad connection on the dash fuel guage itself NOT the fuel sender. As for the air blowing weak when you floor it, check for a disconnected or cracked vac line on one of the vacuum reservoirs. I think the AC vac reservoirs on the 70 were round plastic ball looking ones. See if there’s one like that with a line disconnected. It might have the older coffee can style van canisters too. It’s def a disconnected vac line. The purpose of the vac reservoirs is for JUST that reason under load or at high altitude vac pressure drops. The vac tank provides vacuum doing those moments!! Hope this helps you out a little!!

GT has a hotter cam and may not produce sufficient vacuum at idle Vacumn lines could be compromised ,definitely

Great car! Nothing quite like the feeling of 400 horsepower (gross) from a 455 V8 engine. For its time, it was pretty fast getting to 60mph in the low 7 second range and doing the 1/4 mile in the mid 15s. The top end was around 130 mph. I always waffle which I like better the Toronado GT or the Buick Riviera GS model?

Transmission shop screwed up... no chirp when kick down and bark 3rd ... I had 2 of these and my 70 Eldorado definitely barks and chirps 3rd 29 k original miles thats problem with most transmission shops .. if they don't know about older transmissions when they re build them soft shits not good with high hp Torque engines

Yeah it was a cool time, most Europeans asked if it was some kinda Italian sports car, i drove my Toronado around 70.000 mls across Europe and sold it to a friend who still has it, after i moved back.

Hey Chris, beautiful Toronado! Been a favorite since summer of 1965 when our San Diego friends came to Detroit. We rode the Greyhound up to the Oldsmobile factory in Lansing to pick up the Toronado they had ordered. Prettiest green on green. It was a real "looker"! Love your road tests but just gotta ask, have you ever been pulled over after "stepping on it"? Just curious 🤔. Keep your videos a comin' ! 👏👏👏

Thanks!! Well I have been pulled over for speeding plenty of times in my driving career, however I am careful to check for the Police before I step on it, and I get off of it fairly quickly. People do like to see what it's got!! lol

I have one of these cars with over one hundred thousand miles on it and the transmission still works perfectly. How did these people waste theirs in just twenty-three thousand miles?

From sitting for near 2 decades. Some stuff was stuck internally and it wasn't shifting right. Trans shop said to do the whole rebuild to assure perfection.

The tail pipes look further in whereas the previous video they were sticking out more. Were they changed? Did I miss a video where you explained that?

Awesome olds,,,hope you used a oil with zinc in it or the cam will wipe out in awhile and why was the top end of the motor torn apart with only23,000 miles on it ,,,,,doesn't sound rite

It has the correct oil in it for sure. This car SAT untouched for nearly 15 years. Things seize. Top end we rebuild I would assume because of sticky lifters. Not uncommon at all. I have all docs to prove miles as well.

I guess with all that weight FWD isn’t a negative thing.

That cam shaft is an aftermarket cam. The '70 GT did not idle like this one from the factory. Just sayin'
