    Just the most brilliant sports sedan of its time. Forget the Germans. This car's suspension alone put them all on the bus. Not a lot of horsepower, but once you got rolling you didn't have to slow down. The ride and comfort were sumptuous, in the best British tradition. But alas, this engineering marvel was manufactured under the auspices of British Leyland, a nightmare combination of the worse of government, union, and private sector management. What a shame. I was lucky -- I'm Canadian and when I was 18 my Dad owned two of these in succession. Now I'm 68 and drive a Jaguar. British cars shaped my car-loving youth, and who can argue with that?

    John Richards The car was in fact designed and engineered when Rover/Land Rover was an independent company - the first came out in 1962.

    TheDarkPhoenix23 agreed, but I’m not a big fan of the speedo (looks like an alarm clock radio from the 80’s glued into the dash) but I absolutely HATE that steering wheel. Like driving with a rounded wire hanger....

    Tip for all P6 2000TC owners - fit a diff from a V8 car. 4 cyl diff ratio is 3.54 and V8 ratio is 3.08 - it transforms the cars for high speed cruising, and other than being a trifle slower moving away from rest, they perform just as well if not better through the gears.

    That P6 is definitely not running as it should be. The engine should sound a lot smoother; I would say the valve clearances/tappets need attention. There also seems to be some clutch judder when you pulled off the driveway. I noticed that you had to give it a little choke to prevent it stalling at the junction; which should not be necessary if the engine is warm (which I assume it was, as you did not require choke to start). I would advise an in depth service: carb stripped and cleaned, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, timing checked etc, plus the valve clearances. After that, assuming there is no engine wear, she should run sweet.

    I was thinking either the valve clearances need setting or the exhaust manifold gasket has gone.

    Sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders - I'd get that checked as 2000TC heads seems very prone to valve seat recession. I don't like the juddering when taking up the drive either...

    I had a 1972 TC back in 1981 had started motor trouble got stuck in second gear had a hell of a job getting it out rear diff don't mention the rear brakes the only thing it didn't go to bad mind you I did drive it hard

    Had a 1968 Rover 2000 TC. Ran great in the summer. It was not designed to run in the winter in western Canada. For example, the engine vapour tube that ran from the sump to be burned off in the cylinders ran up in front of the radiator. The tube froze up in cold weather causing oil to seep out all over the place on the engine. What a mess. Choke cables became inoperarable in cold temperatures. Too bad. A great comfortable sedan in more temperate climates I am sure.

    My dad’s 2000TC did about 28 miles per gallon (imperial - 20 fluid ounces to a pint not the US 16), and 32 on a run.

    It is a typical British engineering. A bloody tractor. Terrible noise and awful fuel consumption combined with substandard performance. Thank God to Brexit we get rid of these nostalgic piece of shites!

    My dad loved them. He had three, two 200TC’s and a 2200TC. The 2200 was much torquier and quieter than the 2000.

    This particular example is not running very nicely, normally they run as sweet as a nut this one just needs a bit of a tune up. Let me guess you drive some Japanese piece of s*** that will crumble to bits in 10 minutes. Not to mention, over 30mpg from a 50 year old 2ltr ain't half bad.
