    Had one in a 1969 Z/28 pulled shifts at 7000 on a daily basis best motor I ever owned put the angle plug heads on it along with headers Endelbrock Torquer and a holly 680 double pumper with mechanical secondaries 450 hp lots of fun especially when you side step at 6000

    LT1s were both in production and available over the counter back In the day. It should also have a forged crank.

    Chevy used those nylon timing gears to help dampen engine noise. They were problematic as the nylon wore and created slack in the timing chain. At 60,000 miles, the chain in my '69 dz 302 Z/28 jumped the gear. My dad was a mechanic and tore the engine down. The damage was mainly just a couple of bent pushrods, but he rebuilt the engine with new rings, valve job, and put a solid steel gear back in it.

    Congratulations on finding one of the rarest motors on earth! I had a 1970 Z28 many years ago and I am now looking for a 1970 CORVETTE LT1 Coupe as my mid-life / old-age crisis car. I sincerely hope you decide to put SOLID LIFTERS back into the block you are rebuilding, it just wouldn't be right to put anything else! If you decide you don't have a use for this motor once it is rebuilt, I would definitely be interested as I am sure many people will be but I guess it comes down to has the deepest pockets. Anyway, congratulations again and I hope your motor rebuild has gone well and it's better than expected! Best wishes!

    Hi I have a 1970 corvette LT1 Engine never honed all original except intake manifold and now i have headers this email is not mine mine is demetreg0@gmail.com has no more than 10,000 ( thousand original miles) perfect condition has been balanced I believe there were 1283 Corvettes with that engine made I have it for around 38 years Corvette twissted Chasi and was never repaired took the engine when i was about 21 -22 years old this engine would be great in a 1970 Corvette I have it in a Chevelle which at one point was in the garage for 25 years only started it every few months back then . Now i drive the car lol at one point i was looking for a 1970 Corvette body myself that is where it belongs. what an engine oh and of course it is solids angle plug heads 11 -1 compresion forged crank pistons and conecting rods what a sound what pep i guess you know what im talking about , and never abused pushed a little but nothing more lol lol

    My neighbor gave me a free 350 long block. It was orange and came out of a 3/4 ton truck. Same block but it had truck heads, I still have the block in the garage and never bored. Bought a 77 C10 and it had the same block and truck heads. Still have that one and a 69 327 built into 383 sitting in my 71 Chevelle. Picked up a 73 454 with forged crank, truck rods and 049 heads. Never bored. Came with heavy duty folding stand and RPM intake for $600. LT1 should have camel hump heads, solid cam and 780 Holley i think.

    Grumpy Jinkins ran that timing set. So I would say it’s not junk.

    The vins are stamped on the side of the block by the oil filter when built in norwood. That is a standard installed engine. Factory replacements had different codes on the pad.

    The reason why Chevrolet use a nylon gear was to keep the harmonic and vibrations down throughout the engine. That's what grumpy Jenkins used throughout his engines

    @@davidflaugher6750 I bet b/c the nylon gear is only good for 80-90k miles and that's not good enuff for a truck? All these car engines I've seen are nylon and the marine version isn't.

    CTB 8-cylinder 350 with manual transmission 320 horsepower 1970 Camaro that was a lucky find put a set of 186s double humps on it

    @@lindajones1592 There are three plugs behind the camshaft timing sprocket, three in the back of the block. The six are for the lifter and main oiling galley. there is the hidden plug for the oil filter and the plugs in the front and rear top of the block.

    Just watched and one big correction. The VIN on the 1970 Camaros was stamped on the cast area bell housing flange above the oil filter. It will have the last 6 digits of the cars VIN. It is sometimes very hard to see as it is on the raw casting. It is where the transmission pin is. An over-the-counter LT-1 engine will not typically have the CTB but will be a CE (counter exchange) with a series number replacement. There may be a car owner out there looking for this engine. The original engine could be worth ~5k to the right owner.

    David Flaugher: Thanks so much for the correction. My experience is with Corvettes where the VIN is stamped on the tab with the engine assy date and engine code. I made the assumption that the Camaro and Corvette were the same. And you know about assume. (ASS out of U & me) There is a VIN in the place you said. 10 space 576323. The VIN is stamped in two places on that tab with different fount sizes. Question: could this engine have come from a Nova or does the number make it a Camaro only?

    Could be from a Yenko Deuce, but they are obviously more rare. The Deuce's shared the Camaro CTB motor, not the Corvette CTK,CTU,CTV LT-1. Not sure how the date fits in with Deuce's production.

    Just looked through the Deuce registry...the 576323 isn't anywhere close to the VIN's for Deuce's. Those are in the 360XXX to 549XXX for a very late example. The 576323 does fall into the June-July time for a Norwood Camaro. 99% sure its a Camaro.

    CTC is the automatic, Turbo 400 transmission version. CTB is the 4 speed version. 350-360HP.

    Good luck with using a used 350 cam , unless you install all lifter in the same holes in the block they came out of , they will fail .

    What was the number on the crank I have four of these blocks 3970 010 one of them is a 2 Bolt and one of them is a 327

    No VIN on the pad for Norwood built Camaro's, just LA built Camaro's. Norwood had the VIN stamped by the oil filter. I bought my 70 Z28 in 1981. Hope a solid lifter cam goes back in it. If you want to sell it then the LT1 cam must be in it to get real $ for it.

    The reason I asked about the being in a Nova was because the Widow of the person that had the engine thought he had this in a 70 Nova that he raced. Thanks

    that engine is already 30 Over from the factory and they say not to bore it out any more then that the wall will be too thin and have problems with it

    He sold it to a guy that rebuilt it using all NOS parts, then I bought it off that guy for my late June built 70 Z28

    if it the right engine it should have come with a aluminum high rise check under the timing cover it should have a stamp of 0.10 or 0.20that would make it the z28 engine in very high demand can fetch if rebuilt could be worth $20.000

    CTB Is a 4 speed Camaro. CTC is a automatic Camaro.

    It doesn’t say on the book LT one all it says is high-performance four-speed. And somebody erase the vet number on the side some people erase these numbers to make clones so if this is an LT one that means all the early 350s are LT1 s

    i have the same engine it came out of a 1970 el camino custom special order and got another 1 same engine from a z 28 cameo i was hoping it was a DZ just an lt 1 the guy dint know what i paid $100 for it and put it into my elki it runs very strong mine both came complete with hi rise intake holly doable pumper air con 8 inch ballencer talk about luck right.     Original motor...11/1 compression 492 heads steel rods forged crank 550 lift cam 324 degree duration.. Very high rpm motor...

    it is probobly a LT1 high nickel block but without the origanal heads is not worth too much i have a compleate 1970 LT 1 i am selling as is $19.000

    So wait wait wait....With all your many many many years of engine experience you felt it was necessary or even prudent to Quote Hammer off the pistons because they are " Shot " and start painting on it to prep it to go down to the machine shop ? The idea of looking under the alternator for the engine ID number's escaped you ? I'm really curious to know what made you think that the pistons were shot ? and that it would need to be taken .030 over ? I myself don't have the ability with my eye's to make such an assessment and I've only been building SBC since like the mid 70s ...I consider myself a so so motor guy and I for one know for a fact the 350 LT-1 pistons are Forged units along with the "pink rods" and the crankshaft the fact I'm looking at a Nylon wrapped timing gear tell's me this motor is a factory but the fact you even asking WHY they are Nylon wrapped tell's me all I need to know. but then I haven't seen it all ..If this was all going to the machine shop I'm curious as to why you invaded the rotating assembly . Are you a machinist , Did you at least mark every rod you "Hammered" What was the motivation behind breaking apart the pistons & rods and what were you looking for ?

    Dear Mr Bill .. I pray to God you know someone who is even remotely a car guy with some REAL WORLD engine knowledge .and please for gods sake THROW away the old "hardware and DO NOT reuse old main bolts or head bolts replace them with ARP main studs and fasteners ..I'm still wondering what you were thinking when your little man told you to break apart the pistons & rods because I'm almost 100% certain that if this isn't the very first time you have ever been inside a small block chevy or any motor it's certainly the second time .. and while I admire your zeal I'm a little curious as to how you know what does or doesn't have to be cut say for example you have the crank laying down the next time your at the machine shop tell me how many crankshafts you see laying down ..listen if you need advice please ask I'm really more than happy to lend it free..and without any arrogance or ego ...PLEASE MR BILL.. STOP... how many cam bearings have you personally installed in ANY engine ????? If the answer is not many or less then please STOP... Are you bored to tears ..and where does this arrogance come from where you buy a few tools and wham your a motor man ? WRONG buddy listen to a guy who knows ..Anyone who "knocks the freeze out plugs in to get them out has obviously not learned that is NOT necessary at all you knock one side down and pry them out MY GOD BILL ....Who told you to knock them into the engine ?

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. "Bundesabgasbespaßungsverbot" in German. :-////()())))
