I lived five blocks away. Jim St. John was the pro at Saratoga Lanes. Got to go Friday night when the final 16 bowled. Met each bowler, they signed my program. These men were very nice. I looked up to them.

Lefties usually dominated at Saratoga, except for 1969. Think in 1971, all 16 bowlers on Friday were lefties!

I never realized until now that I was 3 days old when this took place. And the difference between the black-and-white and color footage was quite...striking 🤣

I never agreed with the format in the chanmpionship round. The tournament leader is at a tremendous disadvantage since he only bowls one game while the others behind him are 'tuned in' to the lane conditions. Not very rewarding to the person who bowled best during the week. Each TV match should be bowled on different lanes.

It was a fantastic and an amazing Stepladder Finals in the San Jose Open that features the televised 300 Game.
