1969 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 428 SCJ DRAG PACK

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today’s star-studded feature on AutoHunter Cinema is a Raven Black 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 powered by the 428 Super Cobra Jet engine. The 428 SCJ was a Cobra Jet with the Drag Pack, the latter which triggered the addition of several heavy-duty components plus 3.91 or 4.30 gears. This Mach 1 uses a C6 automatic transmission and an upgraded gear vendors overdrive system, which makes driving with digger gears so much easier. Note the ”R-code” Shaker hood scoop.

Need to correct some misinformation before people believe it because they saw it on You Tube: Super Cobra Jet did not mean Ram Air was included. A Super Cobra Jet could be ordered as an "R" engine code with Ram Air or a "Q" code engine which was not Ram Air. A Super Cobra Jet was strictly a matter of the rear axle gear ordered - either 3.91:1 or 4.30:1 and could be had with either a 4 speed or an automatic transmission. I saw in a previous note that someone stated SCJ had forged components - that is not true, pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft were all upgraded, but nonetheless still cast. Also, you need to be clear as to why the horn was moved to the passenger side - it was to accommodate the oil cooler addition to the drivers side radiator support. Also to be accurate, Ford never had an option for the 428 that was listed or identified as "Super Cobra Jet", and the actual option name for "Drag Pack" was not created and used until February of 1969. And again, contrary to what was stated at the end of the video, the Drag Pack option or the SCJ engine did NOT come standard with the Ram Air engine. Your tag line claims to be "experts", please have your facts correct and don't mislead viewers. Here is your best reference for 428 CJ's & SCJ's: www.428cobrajet.org/

The SCJ engine had LeMans rods , 1UA crankshaft, and a counterweight between the harmonic balancer and timing chain cover. Like you said the axle ratio determined if you got the CJ or SCJ......

Shure, the Super CJ got you forged internals, 4 bolt mains and the 3.91 or 4.33 gears. I was very excited until I saw it was an automatic, probably faster for strip use, but the 4 speed would be much more fun to drive.

@@betterthanboost not shure, it would depend on the car and the price. I bought a 74 trans am SD-455 new and had to get an auto because that was the only way you could get AC. I wish to this day, I would have gotten the 4 speed and no AC.

I don't think an auto was faster than a manual THEN? Now definitely but then not so sure especially a stock auto

@bluesman7475: It did not have 4 bolt main caps. The 428 SCJ had cap screw and alignment sleeve rods and a different harmonic balancer. The 427 had cross bolted mains. Unfortunately, Ford did not use the 427 block for the 428 CJ. I have owned a 1969 428 CJ "R" code Mach I. I was not extremely impressed with the 428 CJ engine. Ford could have done a much better job with it. The 428 CJ is overhyped, in my opinion. The 427 is a better engine.

You God Damn Right there was ! Those Were 3 of the greatest Words you can say when you walk into a Ford dealer back in the day, Tell em you want the "Super Cobra Jet" ! "Drag Pack" was another good option to get on Fords, you usually got the Super Cobra Jet when you ordered the Drag Pack Option also. I Myself Prefer the 429 Super Cobra Jets, Over the 428 FE,s.

Speaker was incorrect on a number of statements. The rear window louvers were not offered on 1969 Mach 1’s. They were only available for the Bosses in ‘69. Also, the ram air (shaker hood) option was “optional” for the 69/70 model years which included the SCJ’s.
