The MK1 was the true Capri.
The exact same car that I bought in 1976 when it was for sale in a used car column in my local newspaper. It was being sold by the original owner who bought it new in 1969. I can remember that it only had 30,000 miles on the clock. It was in immaculate condition and was the same red colour as in this video. It was such a great looking car, and as a 20 year old new driver I couldn't have wished for a nicer first car. I sold it in 1981 for almost the same price that I paid for it.

@Classiccarbscouk I should mention this was in Canada, where there weren't many of these cars. The Ford Mustang got all the attention, but for me the Capri was a far better looking car.

@pauldg837 glad you enjoyed your capri. And yes, its definitely a good looking classic car, massive bonnet. The mustang is awesome!!
Superb early example ! The owner must have stored it fairly well to survive the last 55 years in such a solid condition! Great video! 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧

I'll bet that sold faster than the proverbial HOT CAKE. What a find that was, probably the last true barn find, one owner since new. OMG ! Love the shape of the MK1 Capri. This is classic car gold to some lucky buyer. Even though it will need the full treatment, it will be worth it.

Its like looking at my 1st ever car...I had a "H" plate, 1600XL, same colour etc. Mine was a bugger to start too. :D
Very courteous of Ford to provision a lovely tool tray in front of the radiator since they knew it would come in handy. Well done, guys!

Capri`s never die they just " Act up a little bit "
I had a 1969 Capri Mk1 back in the day, my dad handed it down to me, it was the same colour but with a black bonnet. I modified the 1600 X Flow out to 1700 and fitted a race head, Rally cam, 11:1 pistons, twin 45 DCOE webbers, massive 4 into 1 exhaust headers. It was about 160+ HP, with a 2000E Cortina gearbox. It would out run 2.8 Capri Mk3's. It used to surprise the guys at the Capri Club. It would rev passed 8000 rpm. Nice to see another in such good condition.

Sounds similar performance to our 'kate' and with the same gearbox 👌
Had two of them both 74'. Made one a hotrod. They dont take curves very well. 145 mph with the 2.8 v6, not to shabby.😊

Only just seen this...what am I like eh😜. Bloody brilliant vid and such an adventure trying to bring her back to life. I, as we all probably were, were willing every time that key was turned, then finally....shes alive 😊😊. Loved the self healing lights and even the horn...it was like her coming out of hibernation, bloody brilliant feeling I bet. Anyway, hope you've sold her by now, she's quite a Capri. Anyway, dudes, hope you're all good and look forward to the next great vid 😊👍👍👍
If Mannys saying 6-7K then I'm guessing its owes him about 3-4K He's being honest about the welding issues and clearly spent time and money on the Old Girl in the video👍 so a must-have for any MK1 Capri fan (including myself) had the same car back in the day ( Early 1980,s) only negative being the total restoration costs!! 🤔🤔 Just my Humble opinion ...............................👍👍

When you’re trying to make compression it’s better to spray starting fluid in the carb than dumping gas or brake cleaner that will wash the cylinder and make less compression.

Great video. I had the MK 1 facelift model with the overhead cam engine. Drove it to lake Como northern Italy in 81. I remember leaving the motorway somewhere in Switzerland changing from 4th 3rd and the gear stick came out in my hand. Managed to secure it back in with the flimsy ribbed metal cup that held it in place. WWU573L was the reg😄I think!

Old boy owned this from nearly new I think , always sat outside, well for the last 30 years I would say & sat in a driveway behind the house wrapped up for nigh on 8 years next to a Nash Metropolitan. Been freshened up a few times & had some clag in it . At least it didn't get scrapped 👍
When I saw this I wondered if it was the car owned by an acquaintance at school many years ago. I had never seen a bright red Capri before I saw his one ( also on a G plate) and none since ,until this one, despite seeing hundreds of them lined up at the factory. I wondered if it was the same car, but when it was mentioned it was a 1 owner, then it probably isn't the same. Infact my father had a G reg green 1600GT with a vinyl roof and disc hubcaps, as I remember.

id fill the pots with a acetone and tranny fluid to help briing the rings back, then try a little oil down the bores, to help the rings seal to get it started. brak cleaner should NEVER be used to try start a engine.

put the carb in swimming pool cleaner and water 50/50 for 3 hours then take it out and rinse then strip down.. the pool cleaner will bring it u pa treat. break cleanewr down the throat of carb is stupid. use petrol . down each bore pu ta mix of diesel and petrol about half a cup with piston up top, it will help clean up the sticky rings.. then do the next one etc leave them with juice in for about 1 hour between swapping them over then spin motor over to clean it all out ... be a good idea to ge tsome decent jump leads as they are crap.
