Hello,
On display is my 1968 model CT2 Gerber MKII combat dagger. These knives were produced commercially by Gerber and favored by troops in Vietnam. If you have any questions please feel free to comment below!

Loved the canted blade models very very nice knife. They did tuck into the body when strapped on a load bearing vest or wherever gear you wanted it on.
This was macvsog 5th SF MSG Jerry “ mad dog“ Shriver combat knife in 1968 in CCC

Yes You Are So Right about This 😎
Very cool ; lots of newer materials and designs today but these knives just have that special place . ❤
Great knife for its intended use. It's not a camping knife.
Those are great knives. I've also got a 1968 model that was picked up by my ex-father in law at a yard sale. He used it as a dive knife. When I got it both sides of the guard were broke off down to the tang, the finish was gone from the handle and the tip was completely rounded off. I contacted Gerber and they said they would repair it under warranty. When I got it back it was as good as new with the exception that they couldn't duplicate the gray color on the handle.

It's an amazing design, one of my all time favorites without a doubt. I actually watched your video on Vietnam MK2's right after I purchased this knife! There are very few reference videos for these on youtube - really appreciated the info you offered. It's a shame that they couldn't replace the parts with originals but in my opinion it's better to have a functional piece of history than a rusted out broken one! Cheers!
Impressive the logo hasn’t changed, I know that’s silly but it really helps a brand.
like the FS, it is a very specific use tool. for its haters, it is not a GP field knife like the Kabar. both are great for what they are designed for. the serrations were bad, early PC influence.
Gis complained that it snapped but it was designed for killing not field work

Early examples do have notoriously small tangs that can lead to snapping
Thank you for the review. You provided interesting facts and history about the knife without any over embellishments that usually are given as facts in most knife reviews. Look forward to your next posting.
I carried one, cats tongue no seration. Went to a model 14 Randell. Still love the Gerber.
Great Stuff
awesome knife
Your knife same age as me . I’ve got the gerber command ll 1 of 1500 series. Don’t plan on using it , unless SHTF lol
The more practical knife for a soldier would be the all steel US Army clasp knife. You have to think about being captured in a war after all. I watched an interview with a British EighthArmy vet. He said you didn't want to get captured with anything even resembling a hunting sheath knife. As he said if a sentry needed to be killed quietly more oftenthan not a hunting/sheath knife was borrowed from someone on the patrol. The modern Mk II is a bit of a crowbar. I guess it was designed to be like a heavy duty version of the F S knife.
I had one that I got for the large sum of 40 bucks. Got stolen. I miss it.
Strictly for sKillin stuff in the field dude !
Did Gerber ever make a Fork and Spoon to go with that Knife? Or a maybe a Killing/Survival Spork?
WATCH THE ROAD WARRIOR HE HAS ONE???

Yep! That's a mk2!
This knife breaks easy when prying lid off can of black boot polish,to thin in middle.
I am wondering why the sheath has apparently been cut up, with dark stains on the leather, and corrosion on the blade. This brings to mind some potentially disturbing scenarios. I guess it is a combination of age and the harsh tropical environment that did it.
the angled blade took far less force to push through things , much better than the Streight one . both are prized parts of my knife family .
It was definitely a combat knife, not based on a hunting knife design.
I got mine around 1981 at the Kaiserslautern AFB BX. $32 IF purchased with a Mk 1 for $25. So $57 out the door for both. Naturally, I Jumped, it WAS payday! Unfortunately, The Mk 1 was lost. Both Black, in Black leather Sheaths. The Mk 1 was the "Boot" knife version, Very similar in design to any "Boot" knife you can get today, on just about any cheap knife website. It was also (in my opinion) a tad flimsy. The tip easily snapped off, and required regrinding multiple times. Easily accomplished any Saturday for free at the base machine shop. Yes, American AFB's ran full industrial scale machine shops, Mechanic Shops, wood Working, etc at that time, all you had to do was ask, and someone was always around who knew how to run any machine. So, Honestly - a Modern Schrade or Smith and Wesson version, actually gets you a better knife. Likely why they quickly stopped making Mk 1s and only continued with the II's. I find it so hilarious that at one point in time, Mk II's in crappy condition were actually getting $950 Ebay bids! I'll maybe have to get another "Modern" Mk II with the Nylon Scabbard. Honestly, I MUCH prefer the heavier nylon with HD hook and loop to the Leather and Snaps.
Would you consider selling it?

Great find! Any of the earlier s/n Gerbers are collectible in their own right. You either have a GA3 or GA4 mid run of either. It’s considered to be on the edge of the Vietnam conflict as they started making them around 1973-1976 Depending on the condition it should still be worth at least a couple hundred dollars. I’m assuming you got it for a steal if it was at a yard sale! Cheers!
