What a gem it is to see this and hear sounds in "mono" rather than stereo (while listening on headphones) I'm only 40 years old but I grew up with older televisions and radios that played in mono.

What an absolute thrill it is for me to see this video!!! This PBA Event was held at Echo Lanes in Mountainside, NJ. I was 13 years old. My Dad took me to see the Thursday Night Qualifying round (back then, only a 16 man Finals - so Wednesday and Thursday both had two 6 game qualifying blocks). There so many of my bowling heroes out on the lanes. The house was brought down, though by two things: Teata Semiz’s performance that night, and Bill Bunetta’s 300. Great memories. Thanks again!

Watching the greats of yesteryear has been a treat for me. Thank you so much, @irishpogi for putting these classics online. The PBA should be ashamed for not making these available already- this is the foundation of the PBA! Thanks again, irishpogi!

Over the lane ball returns were still around then and continued throughout the 1970s. The one house that come to mind that the PBA used to go on the Winter Tour was King Louie West Lanes in Kansas City. Very rare to see them still in use today.

Teata Semiz wasn't considered one of the "elites" like Johnson, Asher, Anthony, or Roth, but he was a regular in PBA events and a very good bowler. Nice to see footage of him and study his style.

Many nice memories of watching him, Dave Davis, and others on Sunday afternoons after church, ABC, on a little black & white tv . They were my two favorite pros from then. They seemed so serious about it, to a 13 year old kid , the " gravitas gave the game , the sport, extra cred and inspired me to work harder when I bowled in school Not that any of the others then were clowns or ignorant Fools like some of today's athletes, particularly professional basketball and football. These bowlers loved their work and loved our Country. Thanks for posting. Wow Teata's puttin' on a clinic here ! " Coming up next, Curt Gowdy with Partridge hunting in Paraguay" ...

I had forgotten all about Don Johnson the bowler and ran across his name on another KZread site. He made many TV appearances when I was a kid so I know he was good. The thing that surprises me most is that he gets so little ball movement. Once people realized the importance of getting rotation on the ball the game changed forever. In the game of bowling it's all about strike percentage and the more rotation a player can accurately get on the ball the more they will win on average. Of course there are exceptions to this for instance Walter Ray Williams Jr doesn't get much rotation and he has the most titles in history. His accuracy and coming in from the extreme right side of the lane makes it so he doesn't need the rotation to rip a rack.

You have pretty much explained why Liz Johnson has done so well especially against the men. She's been able to get a nice entry angle into the pocket

@irishpogi And this also solves where the earpiece clip at 13:40 from one of the 1997 Chris Schenkel "farewell" montages came from.

And look how great these players were back then and they didnt have to hook the entire lane. Todays game is a joke.
