Thanks for uploading. Love the high quality. Pure Mad Men chic! Commercials may be idealized and project a distorted, unrealistic representation of life in the interest of inducing desire to buy, but this clip just epitomizes what was (and is) so wonderful about "modern life". Great setting, gorgeous car, equally gorgeous lady, slick, very professional photography, the fashions, the voice-over, music, editing...everything is just right. Light, cool, elegant, fresh, modern. An ode to bright, breezy, happy living..hard to believe this was made 50 years ago. That's half a century. To me, this seems fresher and more youthful than most of anything today. We may have grown estranged from the aesthetics and the charm of mid-century commercial culture, our sentiments tainted by the disappointments and cynicism of the decades since, but this stuff just never gets old. Interesting that no other GM full-size car had them. Corvettes, GTO's and the big coupes like the Eldorado, Toronado and Riviera, but none of the regular big cars from the other divisions. And in '68 at least, Ford offered them only on the LTD. The following year, however, LTD, Marquis and Continental all had hidden headlights. On Mopars, just the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300 in '68.

I’ve got a 70 custom 10 in my backyard right now. Probably spent more of my childhood in the truck than I did in my backyard actually. In its heyday that truck was beastly. Being a custom 10 it has a lot of options like a headliner and radio along with a lot of trim. I bought a 66 impala when I was 19 for $650. I technically wreaked it within a week lol. Fortunately the car wasn’t hurt just my pride. I’m currently 23 to give you some context on how long ago this was. Impala has no brakes to this day and hasn’t moved much since I bought it. I’m actually trying to figure out how to go about taking it to a bodyshop now for sandblasting and paint

sounds, style and elegance for 1968
I have walked those streets of the "City" San Francisco all my life. I live in North Los Ángeles these days but going this Memorial Day Weekend to the "City." Great clip!
That is fantastic quality video and sound from 1968 Most of the stuff on youtube is bad looking and sounding.

Because it was shot on film instead of video. That's also why TV shows from that era still look good, while some shot on video in the mid 70's look terrible.

@@macdaddybill Also, some TV shows were just recorded over after they aired to save video tape. At least with film, there wasn't the temptation to re-use it.
Great video...but I'm surprised the commercial never showed the hidden headlights opening. That would have been a nice touch.

Dash Riprock I remember seeing that on an LTD in the 70s as a kid while we were at a traffic light! We had a 72 Caprice, but when I saw the lights flip on that LTD! All I could say was “ Man that’s sweet! Hey daddy did you see that?!”🚗👌🏾

I don’t remember the hidden headlights. That’s a rare car for sure. Beautiful.

AND she has a waistline. You don’t see that much anymore. I had a 68 Caprice in Ash Gold. The inside upholstery was spectacular. Reminded me of a fancy coffin. I hate to make that analogy. I didn’t have the hide away headlights but it did have fender skirts. 327. A real nice car. I miss those days.
My parents bought a new 1968 Caprice 4 door from Kline Chevrolet in Virginia Beach. Had it ten years. I sold it for them and I wish I had it now..that thing floated down the highway...
not only the car,s had class, the ad,s had class to.
Absolutely gorgeous car.
A great classy commercial...the roof line looks similar to the Cadillac Coupe DeVille, which was intentional.
Had a 68 caprice I bought off my buddy in 71. Traded it in for a 74 charger got 600 bucks for it. Only had about 80 miles. Wish I still had it and my charger.
This is my favorite Chevy Caprice Commercial thanks for sharing!
What a 'feel good' commercial, not like the austere commercials of today.

@@raymondrose6596 That is not funny at all. When I drove a 1973 Cadillac Coupe dé Ville - triple white - two women came into the reception and asked if they could take pictures of themselves with the car. I said "OK". A few minutes later my managers wife came in and told me that there was a women on the hood of my car!!! Not in my wildest imagination had I foreseen that they would jump up on the hood of my car. When you look at what a full size luxury car is there you go, and with the hidden headlights it really looks good!! I have an old Motor Trend magazine with the Caprice, LTD, &VIP alongside the Cadillac, Imperial & Lincoln so a loaded Caprice is over $5k, but I recently ordered online a ‘68 Impala/Caprice hardtop resin body that I want to build to slightly resemble Larry Tate’s car from Bewitched but with the hidden headlights instead of the regular grille so it’ll be spectacular when completed

You could always tell which season an episode was from by the year of the Chevys shown in it. Chevrolet was a major sponsor of the show for the first five seasons.
This commercial would have been used for a movie theater. It's too long for television. Very nice.
I'm a Pontiac nut and even I enjoyed this classy commercial. If you took away the Vietnam War, 1968 would probably be the most perfect year ever.

Had a 68 Caprice stupid me traded it in for a 74 Charger for 600. buck. Then sold the Charger later for 2600. to get a 76 Blazer. Wished I would have kept them all.
When women they were pretty and slender in USA now they are chunky and full of tattoos I do remember when USA used to win very often Miss Universe contests what's going on with the population in this country? Men used to be manly and good looking.

Sexiest big car ever!

Looks like a pontiac steering wheel.
In all fairness.. the back seat was big enough..
I believe Astro Air Ventilation™ was designed for the low humidity Western Hemisphere. Back East, it was never fun morning, noon or night, having that hot, humid Summer air circulating in the car. Better off opening windows. Yuck! Back in 1968, most cars did not have A/C, only high end cars like Lincolns, Cadillacs, Thunderbirds, etc. On other models A/C was ungodly expensive as a $700 option then.
@msquaretheoriginal

Maybe not quite $700 but easily 10 percent or more of the price of the car.
Just don't try to find a place to park it.
