    Gotta love both of these classics...nice to see an Olds in there! I thought the G.T.O. would have to be a Ram Air with the standard 4.33 rear to even have a chance against the Olds, but it managed to pull out a victory anyway. 2 awesome machines! Thanks C&Z.

    Goodday C & Z, Suprised the GTO got the win, looking at the mph on the Hurst seems like he backed it off towards the end. Before Nickey, Baldwin, Yenko with there BB Chevy Chevelle's there was the original concept by Oldsmobile. Got to love the Old's as I do. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

    Damn Olds is boss here! The noise from the twice pipes sounded souped up just toolin' around! Just a little peel out and it laid rubber both cars bookin' it. Dig it, the GTO wasn't all show and no go and a lot faster than I expected with the 55 cube short. What a gas!

    Stock GTO's never impressed me even though they were fast, but my '69 SS396 Chevelle use to eat them for breakfast. Now I keep a 2004 C5 Corvette covered up in my garage and it could/would have beat both of these cars.

    A few years ago, I had a "barn find" '68 Hurst Olds 442 posted sedan that I fully restored. The car was a street legal monster, but traction was always a problem. I drove it for three summers and then sold it at a huge profit.

    The ‘68 Hurst Olds would have run faster with the factory 3.42 gears. Those big cube 455s prefer to lean on higher gears that keep them in the sweet spot of the torque curve. 3.91 is too much gear for a low revving big block.

  • @maximumcoverage5591

    @maximumcoverage5591

    I think 373 is about as high a gear ratio as you want in an Olds. They have a fairly high recline from the factory and will happily run right up to it without any complaints even with a couple hundred thousand miles on them.

  • @nuckin1

    you are correct, big cube motors, will run quicker and faster w/o 3.73s 4.11s and such. anything higher , and your just spinning the motor thru its powerband instead of utilizing it.

    I knew a guy that bought a 67 GTO Brand New and he said his payments were 101.00$. That was a lot in 1967. Had the tri power set up and he swapped it for a 4 barrel because of gas guzzling . The shop kept the tri power.

    Nice cars and fast, BUT, the Australian Production vehicle, the 1971 Ford Falcon, "little" 351(Cleveland), GTHO Phase 111, "Super Roo", 4 DOOR FAMILY SEDAN, fitted with the optional 3.9:1 ratio differential could do the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds. Oh, and it was not only fast in a straight line, it also won Bathurst, Australia's BIG Production car race at that time (and still is), in 1971. Interesting, huh?

    So the Hurst is 3700 Lbs Curb weight (Minus the driver).? So?..that is really good for a 455 car with full frame. 1968 A bodies are around 200 lbs. lighter than the later 1970 on cars.

    Traction is always a problem for the GTO. The Olds has a slight edge out of the chute. Despite the traction disadvantage, the GTO (with its flat torque curve over a wide RPM range) will almost always out-accelerate a stock competitor.

    Only a few seconds into the vid, everyone knows the GTO is a Nona -did muscle-car. The 389 under the hood could beat most 400 (6.6L) engines. Perhaps unbenownced to the GTO driver, many perhaps a few hundred ‘hurst olds had a 454 engine slipped in at the factory. And I misspelled, that the GTO is a BONA-FIDE muscle car! But, know😂what your up against.
