1967 Jeep CJ5 Powertrax Lock Right Locker Installation!
1967 Jeep cj5 lock right locker installation! It’s time the old Jeep gets some more traction by installing a Powertrax Lock Right Locker in the Dana 44 rear axle. This is a pretty straightforward install. The locker seems to be on par with price and quality of similar products. With this upgrade the old cj5 should be able to go almost anywhere! This should be similar to a Willys Jeep cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B.

I’m dying to do a Buick swap!
Your videos are awsome. The time you put in, and the detail is excellent. I have a 1958 CJ5 with a 19 spline Detroit locker and Warn full floating axles. I installed a Lock Right in the front Dana 25. I added 11 drum brakes. Just a quick note, the early CJs, prior to 1962 (I believe) were 5.38 gears with the 2.79 first gear T90 transmission. The 1962 (?) and later came with 4.27 axle gears and the T90c transmission. The T90c has a 3.39 first gear. Actually I'm looking for a T90c (3.39 first gear). I run 33x10.50x15s and 1st gear, in high range is somewhat high, or almost too tall. Thanks again for your efforts.

Nice video. Thank you. I usually prefer using a gasket on most things myself, but I often coat the gaskets with Indian Head gasket shellac, and I have had very good results with it, and it also makes gaskets last longer and it also makes them so that they can sometimes be reusable when needed which can be helpful in a pinch. On transfer cases and axles when needed I found that Permatex makes a Silicone RTV formula for gear oil that works very well, it is part number #81182 . I used it for my transfer case rebuild that I did a couple years ago and so far I haven't had any issues with it leaking. Thanks again for your videos. Tim from Wisconsin.

@@mjcavender1230 yes it is, been working with it on projects for over forty years,. It also works great for filling in imperfections on surfaces that have rust, corrosion or scratches. Just clean everything up with a wire or brass brush,. And apply as many coats as needed to fill the area that needs attention, I often use a heat gun or hair dryer to accelerate drying, Then sand it smooth with a sanding block. I have even used it for filling in Pitting on cylinder heads that rust or corrosion from old acidic antifreeze.

The right stuff is definately the right stuff! One thing you didnt mention about the axle seals. When replacing them always make sure they ride on the hub where they are supposed to. Iv had ones that were a different depth and didnt even reach the hub to seal it! Especially important when modifying the brakes and such like you did.

I’ve really liked this locker it works good on and off road. Thank you!
I have a 1960 jeep that use to be in the military. It has a 4 banger with a 4 speed and a transfer case that is stamped Spicer. It has 24v and all waterproof everything. It use to run but my dad passed away b4 he changed it to 12v and I have no ideal what it takes to do that and I can not figure out how to get it to run. Do you know what other type of engine and transmission that will bolt to my transfer case with out any problems?
@SevenBarSalvage
Жыл бұрын
The engine is the same as a 12 volt system. Changing to 12 volt really just means replacing everything electrical like your ignition, generator, starter, lights, gauges. There’s no such thing as an easy engine swap 😆
Enjoyed it? I loved it!!! Great detail for sure you are the man. What is the advantage of having this locker over the stock configuration?
@SevenBarSalvage
Жыл бұрын
Haha really appreciate it! Both wheels always turn, in the stock setup the wheel with the least amount of traction get all the power. Stock Jeeps are really 2 wheel drive if you think about it!

@@SevenBarSalvage So to test if my Willys Truck has these types of lockers installed like the owner told me he did, would be to jack up the rear and simply turn the tires and if both move its a locker? I am assuming same with the front rear as well? Thanks

hola gracias por esos buenos videos, tengo un cj5 1967 quisiera cambio de frenos a disco pero no se cuales buscar para adaptar. Solicito ayuda con medidas o el de que carro puedo adaptarlos. Bogotá Colombia
What do lockers do? Their purpose? Does it make it positraction? Sorry I am ignorant mechanically. You are definitely skilled and very good teacher
@SevenBarSalvage
Жыл бұрын
Sends power to all the tires, in stock form the tire with the least amount of traction gets all the power (helps in turning) so a 4x4 in stock form really just has power going to 1 rear tire and 1 front tire, this gives you 4 tires with power!
@robertbrandywine

@@SevenBarSalvage But what do you give up? Why weren't they designed this way?
@SevenBarSalvage
Жыл бұрын
@@robertbrandywine It’s not going to turn as sharp. A lot of road miles with a locker with wear your tires out quicker. A limited slip is a better option for something seeing a lot of road time.
@makingcookingfixing

but aren't hub locks for that?@@SevenBarSalvage
@SevenBarSalvage
3 ай бұрын
@@makingcookingfixing Locking hubs engage and disengage your front axles. With an open differential and hubs locked the axle will only send power to the tire with the least amount of traction.
Are the bearings and seals still available for the axle

What do you think about doing the disc brake conversion on just the front wheels? A lot of trucks back in the day had setups like that but they have a different weight distribution. Interested to hear your thoughts.
@SevenBarSalvage
Жыл бұрын
Everything I’ve heard and seen it’s a good setup. You’ll have to get some kind of proportioning valve or the front and rear probably won’t lock up at the same time. I did disk and drum on my 3B! Thanks!
Is that a Dana 41 or 44? How do you tell the difference between the two?
@SevenBarSalvage

Dana is really good about casting the axle number into the center chunk. Otherwise they are pretty similar as far as I know.
The locker kit only goes to 1964?
