@@Channel-cm7yc We don’t know? It might have been a hand me down? My parents inherited a Magnavox console stereo from a deceased uncle. Unfortunately nothing worked. My parents inquired about fixing it? The repairman said there was nothing to fix. It was broken for good. The tuner was shot. The record player was also broken. The head shell was broken & the motor didn’t even turn at 33 or 45 rpm’s. It had a hard life in my uncle’s home. It was a ships anchor in my parent’s house. They used it as a table until they moved & the movers left it by the curb for special pick up. Now The Fisher is a totally separate breed of stereo. They were high quality at the time. I should know? I inherited a 500-c about forty years ago. It’s stored in a box in my attic. Unfortunately it no longer works. It is a tube set. I heard they fetch quite a bit of money now in working condition. I might sell it or give it away as I don’t know what is wrong with it?

That's a beautiful piece. Not the most common to have a Dual changer in a console. Most were Magnavox, Garrard, BSR, etc. Most of them I can rebuild with my eyes closed. I have seen one that had an Ampex reel to reel.

Brings back memories...my family had a similar console stereo, I don't remember the brand but it was purchased from Sears in the late 1960's....could play a stack of 33 LPs. I do remember many hours of enjoyable listening.

My friend had a console with The Fisher 400 tube receiver and a Thorens TD 124 mounted. He also installed classic drivers from JBL kits to replace the original speakers. Best console I ever heard. It was like having top tier separate components in a console. It destroyed any Clairtone I ever heard.

Beautiful restoration. Sinatra was the perfect choice to play on this console. I own a 1964 Magnavox Astro-Sonic console that needs some attention.

Fisher was below McIntosh and Marantz in price point. Fisher gear is excellent and post 1957, was rhe choice for those who wanted quality but had to respect a budget. Pre-1957 Fisher was priced closer to McIntosh in terms of the high end Fisher components.

I saw one exactly like it in a thrift store last month for $30. When I returned a week later, someone stole the cartridge head from the turntable. It's common Dual product available on eBay. Only thing that worried me was the speaker surround condition. Good find!

My grandparents had a huge console stereo like this only it was a Dumont. They bought it new in 1966. The record changer was a Garrard. Their first colour TV, which they bought in ‘68 was also a Dumont. Both were purchased wholesale as my grandpa owned a small town furniture and appliance store (in Manitoba).

My parents had a nice console from Germany that has a Lowe-Opta receiver, Grundig Reel to Reel, and Dual 1011 turntable. Eventually, couldn't get parts for the receiver, turntable broke and all we have left of it is the Grundig.

@@brianwilson6403 Yes, it had tubes. When you hit the off lever, it used to sound like a gun shot! We got rid of the receiver (early 1980s) after repairmen basically gave up on it. We gutted the console (it was built into the 45 degree pull down drawer), and replaced it with another receiver. Cabinet was very large and beautiful solid walnut?

Reminds me of my 1960 Zenith. I’ve been struggling to figure out the issues with AM and FM not working. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the original turntable instead the prior owner added a BSR which I brought back to life. Still having issues with it though. Hope you enjoy that Fisher. The sound is incredible!

Ahh! look how wonderful!!! Look! In my opinion, that's what a sound system is, this Fischer is wonderful, and you know, I prefer this beautiful Cabinet to these modern devices, I much prefer the old ones, because in addition to (durability) the device still works with perfect accuracy!

I still have my Dads Fischer FM AM reciever from 1967 it's solid state and after 10 years of heavy use didn't sound as good. Attempted to get it repaired twice but still didn't sound right and was replaced with a modest harmon kardon reciever in the late 70s. Is that Fischer worth having fixed and is it worth any thing. He had it paired with KLH model 5s and a dual turntable with a shure superscope cartridge with the turntable and reciever built into a custom cabinet by the Gramophone Shop in Cherry Creek Colorado
