Wow! I believe this is the same car I saw in a Worcester, MA body shop back in the early 80's. I was getting my '63 E-Type painted and this was parked in the back of the shop.

One of my favorite designers, & you can clearly see design details seen in his later cars, (the Espada was simply stunning)! One thing they didn't mention was the multitude of concept vehicles that appeared over the years for an E-type replacement that never saw production, although this strictly-speaking was a design-exercise rather than a prototype/concept-vehicle!

Geez, these shows on youtube really come to show what a great job regular mainstream midia does when it comes to putting people they interview at ease in order to get rid of that awkward feeling when you watch a shy person in front of the cameras. Nonetheless, yet another f'ing awesome vehicle and funny comments by our favorite real life bobble head doll.

  • @johnburns4017

Oh that US auto maker propaganda about UK cars as they were scared they would take a large slice of their home market. The UK car industry did the same thing with cheap imported Czech Skodas - spread it about they are poorly made and unreliable, which they were not. I have had countless cars with Lucas electrics and all worked fine. Highly reliable and simple. In the 1970s Rolls Royce were asked why they fitted a Japanese radio. They answered that 'it was the best'. RR also fitted Lucas electrics. The US companies with plants in the UK, Ford and Vauxhall, also fitted Lucas. BTW, your ignorance on beers is showing. Certain beers are to be drunk at room temperature or just below. I bet you put ice cubes in fine wine.

then you're the only one.....I've owned several British cars including a Bug Sprite, MGB and a Triumph.....fun little cars but the electronics, SU carbs required continuous work....know many others that owned 60's and 70's British cars and the thread is common...... sorry to burst your bubble....I started driving in the 70's and don't remember a single instance of US automobile manufacturers going after the Brits.....the Japanese for sure....would love to see the ads your talking about....FYI it was a joke.....

Thank you Jay, just thank you. I really don't understand those who complain about what you are doing with this channel and spending your money and time with classic vehicles. IMHO I think we should all be very grateful for what you are doing, and giving to us Petrolheads from all over the Globe (i'm from Denmark) There's nobody doing this the way you do, everybody else have their preferences and specialties so it becomes very narrow and specific, whereas you seem to cover all areas of the vintage vehicle heritage. So again thank you sincerely. And just one little request, not that I think you owe it to anybody, but could you get an old 80" Land Rover Series 1 in there, this being the final year for this iconic 4x4?

16,000 miles in 48 years, it's not even broken in yet. Maybe the 4th auto show was Expo 67 in Montreal. A lot of European cars came over for the World's Fair and then were sold instead of shipping them back to Europe. My cousin ended up with a Lotus Europa prototype they showed in Montreal, it was # 13 on the assembly line, even the Series 1 cars were much better. But anyway, thanks for the look at this piece of almost lost Bertone design Jay.

That rear window opening was kind of funny,as Jay mentioned it drew in the exhaust. We found out the same thing when I was a kid and we would ride in back of my Dad's pickup with a camper top,we'd open the back window to get air and the exhaust would get sucked in from the tail pipe as there is a low pressure created at the back of the vehicle going down the highway. We learned fast to keep that closed tight.

Well, aside from the obvious Espada connection, I notice that many contours, in all 3 dimensions, appear later on a Jag; The XJS. This car is the 'missing link' between the 60's and 70's for Jag. And to think it's designer was so young at the time. It's quite a departure from anything Jag made prior. I like it, maybe even more that the Espada, and certainly more than 70's+80's Jags.

The roller blinds near the rear end on the side, look like a typical design element of Renault of when I was small.

I was just looking at this car, the Parana. I think it inspired the shape of the DeLoren that was used in the movie , "Back to the Future".

Jay you should do a Q n A for your fans. I know we wish we could ask you things. For i stance. I have been a fan for years and have always wondered if you have been in any accidents and I gotta think with all the access and love for motorcycles and cars, surely you have some tales to tell.

jean jacques kasel. I would agree that it looks very much like a shortened Espada, from the grill, to the vent window, hood line and the dead give away....the glass rear end. The steering wheel, dash and seats are all similar to the Espada and to the XKE. The common theme here is Bertone design house. I can indeed see elements from several cars that we owned over the years including the Espada, Mistral, Ghibli, etc. Quite a piece of automotive history.

I suspect that Malcom Sayer used the overall concept for the XJS, as the nose and hood is quite similar.

The Jensen Interceptor was Italian styled! It was designed by Carrozzeria Touring and first cars were actually build at Vignale in Italy.

Very interesting car. Surprised Jay did not buy it as it is the only one. The wheels are similar to d type racing wheels by dunlop except they have round holes in them where this car has squarer holes.

We enjoyed the review of this unusual British made/Italian design coupe and wonder what it will sell for when it is back to "original" with the 4-speed and the fettling is completed. We are all placing bets here but sadly it's not on their website just yet!
