The best and the most professional commentator I ever seen. Thank you so much. Quote: "It's not how many pieces you have in the board, It's about how many pieces you have in the battle"

21:58 "Obviously you can't play Bobby Fischer because he's dead." Anyone else find this morbid, but slightly humorous due to how unexpected it was?

Well, you cant play Paul Morphy either, same reason, but if you could, he might question your qualifications, wouldn't want to embarrass you with mate in nine moves.
i really appreciate the time and energy you put into making these videos. thanks they really pump up my game when I watch them it also shows the love for the game you have as well. chess is one of my passion as it is yours, thanks again.
"Simple development move, trying to control the center of the board". That's this guy's catchphrase!

I like that phrase, but too much analysis just starts to get boring.
Great commentary and explanations man. Even some very sound general tips as they relate to the game. Been watching a lot of instructional and top level game analysis lately having recently taken the game back up after a twenty year layoff. Yes I have some catching up to do. Anyway I liked your approach to game analysis. Thank you, I subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work, I need all the help I can get. I always enjoy Fischer games best, I feel inspired somehow and and more creative just studying his games.
this was uploaded on my birthday
Your commentary is spot on, keep up the great vids.
I started watching thechesswebsite last week and funny seeing how old the actual video is.
good stuff thank you Kevin

Great video. Very well explained.
that would actually be a really good move, thanks for bringing that up!
The commentary is very good indeed. Thoroughly enjoyed the analysis!
thank you
Excellent Video ! Enjoyed very mutch
Bobby Fischer can still beat most of us post-mortem I suspect lol! Top vid thank you
Great stuff....thankyou.
Kevin Thanks you so much
EXCELLENT
I appriciate the comentator's teaching. Benko did not play well, but i deffently learned something, Truly an excelent job!!
Wow, what an awesome game ! I love the commentary too. Thank you
amazing video
i missed ur videos :)
Benko also has a column in "Chess Life" magazine that has run for several decades and is still in the magazine ;(I am not sure if he is still writing this column or if they are running archival material, but it is presented as if it is currently written)
@joey06612 yes, the next video that will be coming out is Deep Blue vs Kasparov and then I'm going to start commentating on my own games.
great video
Amazing game amazing fisher
At 18:30 what about if Fischer played Rc8. This would attack the knight and then if Benko wanted to exchange at that point Fischer would be up two pawns?
@shonl8460
5 жыл бұрын
Then white would play Bd6 protecting the knight and attacking the e pawn. Also the rook is attacking blacks bishop so black wouldn't be doing good
@joaodedeus1836
5 жыл бұрын
But the truth is the 7th rank was Benko's in that situation. Note that even if he played that you could use the Bd6 move freeing line b for the rook and protecting the knight.
Excellent commentary, to a very cool chess game.
awesome game
@sirmegallot you gotta keep in mind Fischer would then lose his bishop. So he had to choose to either trade his bishop for a rook or just get a free piece in white's bishop. He chose correctly and took the free piece.
Excellent commentary! I liked Fischer's sneaky move
I've been a long time fan. I love your clips. My question is relatively simple but odd, when I was in my early teens, my rating was 1700's. Now that I'm 28, my rating has dropped to 1567. Admittedly I don't practice as often, however my ability to see ahead a few moves has really taken a hit. Is this something that will return upon practice?
what is the program you are using to have all these pre-made games ?
Lose a bishop or give the opponent a passed pawn? Pal Benko in 21:28 : Why not both?
Newbie here. Why do people give up? Never say never.
I've always wondered, what is the general time limit on one of these games?
i do this as well when i want to memorize important names :P
for anyone who is still wondering about this one(i know it was 6 months ago) it was because white's knight on d5 is doing a great job defending and has a great outpost there and if he went to c7, black could go nb5 threatening white's queen and knight, so if white takes with his own knight, black takes with the queen/bishop and it's an even trade and now he doesn't have that knight on d5 protecting his bishop. if white doesn't capture with his own knight then he of course loses his queen
Thanks so much! Why at 10:29 did Benko move his knight to C3 instead of taking Bobby's knight on C5 with his queen?

My question too. The black knight (the chess piece, not the alien satellite... lol) ... was hanging. This vid is old so I doubt either of us will get an answer... however there must be a good reason.....
"You can't play Bobby Fischer because he's dead." Sage wisdom, Kevin :P
Sorry, if this has probably been answered (wich is probably the case): Why doesn't white move his Knight from d5-c7, putting a fork on the rooks at 14:44?
The link to novel graphic is dead :(
i don't think what you are saying is covering everything, that's normal though. Was it a mistake by fischer that led to the rook fork? Can you explain that move, instead of the move after (b6)

Thank you for the videos. I have seen many but I still don't know who to thank. Who are you? Some guy named Kevin? You say it so fast. Are you a patzer like me or a grandmaster? Never heard you speak your surname.
i cant be bothered but can someone please count how many times he says bobby fischer in this video? its non stop.
@chesswebsite

more than three? I'm guessing I said his name more than three times.
I love your statements about what you don't want to do against Bobby Fisher :D Also magnificent play by Fisher. From the mistake, small by small he came back first positionally, then materially too.
Many people are taught that axiom that if you can take your opponents major pieces (queen, rook, etc), you should do so; however, in this particular end game, that wouldn't have been as profitable. With only a single rook against two minor pieces, Bobby now cannot trap the king without promoting a pawn, which is harder to do since Pal now has more pieces that Bobby does. Pal can synergize his pieces to make up for not having a rook while Bobby is left to attempt a solo act while White attacks.
can we please get more videos on the kasparov vs deep blue series?
this video was uploaded on the 10th anniversary of 9/11
@Ptrrrrrrrr Fischer could have played Qd2, threatening a deadly attack on white's kingside. This would have been very difficult to defend against. It is much better to first remove the threat the queen presents and then proceed with the fork.
17:25 All the advantage Benko had was he would trade a rook and a knight for Fischer's rook and a bishop. That's not really gamebreaking IMO.
Pal Benko, Winning with Chess Psychology p.228
@DeTaPix You'll see he does that later on in the game.
Thanks for the video. I believe these videos can be further improved if you talk about some different variations and what ifs in the game. Just for example, it is worth talking why Banko after knight to d4 move from Bobby Fischer (@14:43), does not play knight to c7.
Impressively aggressive start by Benko. I thought he might have a chance to win it, even after failing to take a rook immediately after the fork.
Nice.
I saw that too. Seems extremely obvious and I'm very surprised Bobby missed that.
I saw bishop to h6 and e3 a mile away
I love these vids such history I get completely immersed
CHECK OUT "Bobby fischer, chess champ" CBS 60 minutes. It's here on youtube. 15 minutes of interviews i'd never seen before plus he plays a game of blitz as black and of course wins, watch him training in his room and talking about his coming world championship match with spassky, attending a dinner party on his birthday where he orders the cake away. Sadly for me there are the 1st faint signs of his future mental problems. I hope you all enjoy it!
After d2+ , Kd1 Black cannot play Rf1+ , because of the light squared bishop at A6. Instead, the best move in that case would have been Rh2
Great web series.
@thechesswebsite hey Kevin. just wodnering. wouldn't the best play for white be bishop to f6 instead of queen to b4?
maybe after the fischer series you can do a series about that magnus kid
Hi :) I love all of your videos and the way you comment! Thank you very much for this. You help us to improve our chess!!! Do you think that u will do some videos about finals? It would be really great to have a "chess finals video series" :)
Why does he trade Queen’s instead of forking the rooks? Knight to C7 wasn’t guarded once the black knight moved.
You can see the Mary Lou record by the creative force on utube
I'm a novice so sorry if this is stupid, but why not knight to F6 for Benko at 14:39?
Best Game
youre a very dedicated chess player!
at 14:48 why not bishop g5 , if any one knows please comment, i'm fully confused.
@archersbane After Nc7 Fisher would respond with Nb5 threatening the queen and would end up trading knights. It isn't a bad move, it's just better to keep the threat of forking the rooks there instead of playing the card too early and releasing the pressure. Both players were looking for the win and after the trade it could easily become very drawish.
Surprisingly..... no mention of Fischer and Benko's personal relationship.......
what does "dozy drawers" and "conceded" and "ROL!" mean?
It's actually because of Qd2. If knight captures say the rook on a8, then Bxf3 threatening mate, so bishop takes bishop is forced. Then knight takes bishop with check, Kf1 is forced because if Kh1, then queen takes h2 mate. So then Knight takes h2 with check, kg1 is forced. Then Qe2 with the threat of Nf3+, Kh1, Qh2 mate.
I love how everyone always talks about what if this? - what if that?..... You do realize you're talking about Fischer and Benko... arguably two of the best players ever.

The chess game is not just only one line of variations.. It contains billion different ways to play. And is not a fact that Bobby Fischer or Benko every time chose best lines!!!
@justinoz06 Yes, the commentator's analysis of this variation seems to be lacking, as the position we're left at on 18:30 seems to be fairly equal after ... Rc8. I think it's bad for black because after Rxb2 Rxc7, Bd6 attacking both the rook on c7 and pawn on e5 looks pretty strong for white. More explanation in the commentary would have been nice though.
Wow
This Chess. Is . Is War.
at 24:25, when the rook takes the pawn and the the bishop takes black's pawn, insteaad of rook d2 couldn't he have played rook h1 to skewer the king and then later take rook. can any1 help?
Can you explain how benko has an advantage after taking a rook? Is it simply based on the idea that he has a matching pair of bishops?

10:55 Nc3 also threatens Qxc5
I think you misunderstood some of pal benko's thoughts
will you ever try live commentary on your games?
i dont understand...can someone help me get it.... 20:40...why does white must take the bishop on e2 and lose the rook? he could have just play rook at a1 to c1 trying to exchange rook. Even if black moves bishop from h6 to e3 to check, king could take that bishop at e3
@thechesswebsite Its it better to take a weaker free piece instead of trading a minor for a major piece? I understand wanting to hold your own material, it just seems like the power of the rook would add multiplicitively as opposed to getting the free bishop.
at 14:49, couldnt white fork his black's rooks with Nc7? Can someone explain to me why that is a bad move ? :(
I bet Benko thought he was winning until very near the end eg when Fischer played d3.
In playing rh1+, Bobby indeed would have won the rook because Pal's king would have been forced to make a move like e2 in order to avoid the check and losing his bishop while simultaneously attacking Bobby's bishop. Bobby would then have been free to play rxa1; however, that may not have left him in the best situation afterward, since after kxe3 Bobby is left only with a single rook against White's knight and bishop.
His name is Benkő Pál actually , but it so on :)
After Bobby Fischer moves his bishop from a1 to e5 at 26:07, if white moves his king to f3, then white wins, as long as white's next move is Nc4.
@Michaelara95 that square was protected by the white bishop on a6
if u start to say nice little square u know ur good
he would end up winning less material because after rh1+ Ke2, Rxa1 Kxe3 he wins the rook but looses the bishop, whereas what he played (Rd2) won the bishop. so he won a total of 3 points as opposed to winning a net total of 2 points (in your situation). hope that helped :)
22.25 the kingside's Bobby Fisher xD
thats the power of credibility within skill. if you are a legend in the game and mix it up back-forth with moves, it really questions the opponent that your masterminding a plan when you perhaps arn't.
remember its not about quantity.. its position... the bishop is the only active piece for Benko and therefore has more value than the lonely rook
I think you underestimate the players a bit. I'm pretty sure Bobby Fischer wouldn't miss a fork one move away, he was just looking at the tactical implications
Woah woah woah where' Kasparov-Deep Blue series?
