Danny Roberts I was in High School (class of 66) and that was when all this was happening! Ya, there were other muscle cars but when we were dreaming about a car, it was the cobra. And all that in a country where even on a 6 lane highway the most you could go was the cruising speed of a semitruck! Double nickel. But maybe that is why we were so obscessed with it. Kept it in my heart for all these years and now I bought a BMW Z3, same concept, more comfortable for a young man, heating, AC and a ragtop but it turns heads too. And I can enjoy the feeling, because now in Europe the days of open roads, no speed limit are over too and I can’t even try to hit the 240 Km/h on the Autobahn. The days of manly men are over, but we enjoyed them!

I am 66 yrs old. My friend had a real 427 Shelby. They were around 5 thousand bucks. They were scary as hell at the time. Went for a ride in a 427 fuel injected vette at 13 yrs old and that was unbelievable. The stuff they are making now is way more sophisticated with ABS and traction so we are way safer. It is a good thing, but back then you actually needed to know how to drive or you and the trees were going to be in the same space.

My neighbor had a 289 Cobra, and a 427 Cobra ... in addition to some Shelby Mustangs of the era, and some what I'd refer to as "exotics". He never took me out in the 427, but he'd drive the wheels off of the 289 green Cobra. Big SAAC member that drove to all of the Shelby Anerican Auto Club events. First car to ever take me over the 140 mph mark. While not built to be a dragstrip car ... it routinely put to shame, many 12 and 13 second cars. Always trying to raise myself to the dash, but never able to leave the seat back. An experience I'll never forget.

Cool. Thanks for sharing. I’m not at that place where I can afford one yet, but I do want a Backdraft car in a couple of years. I got a chance to ride in one with a coyote 5.0 and it was thrilling.

and these sounds that it makes are just phenomenal, that coyote really breathes freely, classic body and looks with modern technology and ingredients. a winning combination really. great that you kept it Ford, as Shelby has always been so closely aligned and linked with Ford exclusively. saw a Shelby Cobra replica once, that had a Chevy LS1 in it, these engines are great in their own right, no doubt, and a phenomenal choice, but it just does not seem right to have a Chevy engine , (or anything else other than Ford) in a Cobra, replica or original. again, awesome clip ! Had the opportunity to see a real 427 Cobra back when they were starting to rise in value(I don't think 427 Cobras ever lost value from new) in 1983 getting a loose side pipe welded up at a gas station(remember when gas stations used to have a mechanic on duty? LOL).I'll never forget how the owner pulled out and accelerated away after the repairs, the Cobra sounded amazing, something that stays with you for life :-)
