On "My Car Story" we're in Burlington IL at Burlington Park Car Show on 9-11-16.
We're looking at a 1965 Ford Falcon Futura 2 Door in Honey Gold Paint with a 289 CI Engine.
The car's Owner is Tom Allen. He mentions his wife’s Father bought the car in 1965 a month after the car was new from the neighbor. Tom shares, “I rarely see them on the road anymore because they either rusted out, or were dragged ( Drag Raced )”.

Bought a used 1965 Falcon in 1978 for $400 .... Brittany Blue 4 Door 6 Cyl Automatic and the first year using an alternator rather than a generator. Good solid car and fun driving. The head gasket had a slight oil leak so I took the head of and had the head machined and put back with a new head gasket. since I had the head and exhaust manifold of I replaced the entire exhaust system. Later I replace the bench seat upholstery both front and rear. Then I replaced all the tires and shocks. Total cost in those days of about $400. Miss that Falcon. Another great presentation of car I LOVE.

Love it. Someone in my neighborhood has a 1966 Falcon in this color. Of course the 1966 was not available as a hardtop. His is a two door "post" coupe body style. It has a B pillar. Like yours, his is gorgeous.

Lou Costabile A fine car... and not over done. Thanks. M dad once owed a 64 Falcon Sprint silver with black interior... I believe it was a manual set up. I know Jay Leno like the earlier non wedge falcons and has that fine 63, but to me this design was superior... From the 64, he purchased a 67 mustang fastback in the iconic green....

Nice car. I have the same car in my garage, in vintage burgundy. My father bought in in 1978 (second owner) and drove it daily, until it was put into a garage in 1984. Mine only has a 170 in it, but it completely original. My father rebuilt the engine years ago. And it has survived nicely, even after sitting for 33+ years. I am just beginning to restore it. And want to take my time and do it right. According to the built sheet, there were only 24,451 units produced. The original price was $2,179.00. I want to keep it original as possible. As you mentioned, there are not many still around. Thanks for sharing your story.

Notice how he had to spread his legs to get them around the steering wheel to sit. I'm 6/4 and had to do the same thing. I drove my 65 Futura convertible for 48 years, mostly in California. I made quite a few modifications over the years but kept the exterior stock. The one modification that is a must is to change the single master cylinder to a dual. It could save your life.

I have a '65 stripped 2dr Falcon. Manual, 144 (I think), only extra's radio and heater. That thing was part Jeep. It would go anywhere, just take your time. Not a racer by any means, nor am I. Developed electrical problems when 11 years old and sold it. Regretted it ever since.... Wish I could go back in time...

The '65s were low production Futuras, after which the Mustang kicked the bird feathers off it, the model was discontinued before the finish of the model year, and the Falcon returned to its' humble church shuttle origins, and far more mundane than the last three years.

@@loucostabile I will look for more cars as I am old enough to remember a lot of them. Funny story about my Uncle's car. Auntie wasn't the best driver that's why she had him do all the driving. She drove to town and got groceries about 10 blocks. Upon arriving home she drove into the driveway and right into her house. Minor dent in both. When anyone asked about it she commented it was her house and her car and she could do it if she wanted too! She was a card!

Ok, so first gen Mustangs continue planting horseshoes in the hearts of millions, and I'm in the googol to one crowd, but Falcons can be for their genetic lines, cars that stand with the best. Give one a chance, and you're hooked. They are awesome Fords that deserve every credit due them.
