Lou, I never knew, nor have I ever seen a 63 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe. Never new they existed. As a 10 yr old and thereafter I've only seen the Series 62 and Coupe DeVille of this vintage. The 1st 60s Eldorado Coupe I was aware of was the FWD 67 Coupe.

Love the fact that this is a coupe instead of the typical convertible. As the gentleman stated, the coupes are much more rare and you can't beat this frost beige/bronze two tone color. This is when Cadillacs were the standard of the world. Beautiful car Lou.

Stunning! BREATHTAKING! This looks so very much like the MINT ‘64 Cadillac Coupe deVille my dad brought home in 1967 when I was 8 years old (I’m 61 now). Our ‘64 was the same beautiful gold(‘dorado’ in Spanish) as this ‘63 is, but our deVille’s seats weren’t upholstered in leather like this one, but were covered in the rich looking “Dynasty Gold” print fabric. And I think the ‘64 tail fins/taillights were just a hair shorter, angled just a little sharper, and ended with a more pronounced point at the tip (just a little more understated and elegant than the ‘63s fins/taillights were, shall we say). Oh how I still miss our family’s then-nearly-new gold ‘64 Cadillac Coupe deVille which dad let go of after owning it for only 2 years. He sold it in order to purchase a one-year-old teal-green ‘68 Ford Ranger pickup with a king-size cabover camper on it which we put to good use within a month or so of its purchase when we moved out of Southern California (Orange County, Buena Park) to the beautiful State of Arkansas where my dad had spent the first 10 years of his life and where his family still retained a good portion of their property which my great-great-grandfather had homesteaded back in 1868 just after the Confederate Army (which he had been a part of) surrendered, ending the Civil War. In fact, the house I now live in which my late father had a local contractor build for us back in 1970, is only a couple hundred feet from the site where once stood the small rustic two-story home my great-great-grandfather Samuel hand built when he first took possession of the several hundred acres of land that he had homesteaded for 3¢ an acre back in 1868. Even 51 years ago (dang, has it been HALF A CENTURY already?) when I was 10 and we had just moved here from California, there wasn’t a thing left of great-great-grandpa Samual’s original cabin home except one block of natural stone that looks like it could have been a step in front of the door, or a foundation stone that a corner or a part of the house stood on. Anyway, I digress from the topic of the Cadillac. My apology. Thanks so much for the posting of this beautiful, stunning, BREATHTAKING ‘63 classic Cadillac! I love it!

No Eldorado hardtop in 1963. Body number 6357 is Coupe deVille which would correspond to "J" in the VIN. Car was a Special Order of a Coupe deVille with Eldorado exterior trim and interior. Staple holes in body plate where the Special Order (paper) tag was attached indicating the changes. Usually the paper tag is long gone but the staples remained. Unfortunately the staples were removed from the plate, presumably when the cowl was painted (gold). From the factory, this area is semi gloss black. The firewall has also been painted body color (gold) but beginning in 1963, this was no longer painted body color but should also be semi gloss black. I have seen one 1962 Coupe deVille that had also been Special Ordered with Eldorado exterior trim however the interior was standard Coupe deVille with optional bucket seats (which became available on DeVilles w/leather in 1962). Interesting car!

Hello Joe, I worked as a Service Manager at a Cadillac dealer in Florida back in the day, about 10 years after this car was made. Obviously, we still had cars as old as 15 years, sometimes even 20 in the Service dept. You are correct in that, beginning in the early 50’s, those optional dimming units were called “Autronic Eye” . That later was dropped simply for the “Automatic Dimming” option, but it was never referred to as “Twilight Sentinel” That was a completely different option that Cadillac developed, that turned on the headlamps system automatically when a sensor in the left radio speaker grille(on top of the dash), sensed darkness. It would also turn off the headlamps when it became Dawn, and as part of the feature, you could dial an adjustment that would allow a delay In turning *off* the headlamps, allowing you time to walk safely while the system lighted your path. It was a great innovation, and was (much) later offered on other GM lines. Now, nearly all makes of cars have this feature these days. But Cadillac had it long before Lincoln or Imperial. Incidentally, speaking about this ‘63 Eldorado, ‘63 was the LAST year they had dash mounted “bullet” style Autronic Eyes. In 1964, Cadillac put the sensor just under the chrome molding on the left fender, in a small clear lens, just above the left headlamps. This is an extreme high-optioned Eldorado shown. It appears to have every available option offered that year including power vent windows, tilt wheel (first year offered) and AM-FM radio, as well as Limited Slip Differential (Positraction rear axle), Cruise Control and Bucket Leather Seats. Automatic Temperature Control air conditioning was not offered until 1964, exclusively in Cadillacs. GM Engineers at Cadillac saw an opportunity to capitalize on a great innovative option, and later on in the 1964 model year, decided to offer the optional for all full-sized GN lines for the upcoming 1965 model year. So, in ‘65, GM introduced across the board for the other four GM lines (full-size Chevrolet’s, Pontiacs, Olds, and Buicks) Automatic Temperature Control air conditioning and heat, calling it “Comfortron” for those makes.

This Eldorado is fantastic! Funny story, but I was 9 or 10 years old when the knife-edged '67 Eldorado was introduced. It was the most beautiful car to me, and in fact still is. I was all about brand-new cars at the time, so I didn't know that there were earlier Cadillacs named Eldorado. This '63 Eldorado was only four model years before my favorite, the '67, and I must say, it is also quite stunning. Thanks for sharing the car with us, Original Parts Group, and thank you Lou and the crew for showing it to us 👍

Another great video from you Lou. When you got to the part about the stainless trim on the roof I choked up a little. We used to make such beautiful things. What the hell ever happened? I think it's connected to overpopulation. This particular car is just magnificent. Cruise control, Air conditioning, and FM radio. Even several years later FM radio was still a rare feature. And every detail is like a brand new car. I'd like to add a little history. The 1963 Cadillac design was the basis for all the full-sized Cadillac's to come and carried into the front wheel drive era. At one time the '63 Cadillac was the favorite used car of biker's. Rough and tumble biker's, not cyclists.

The “Trumpet Horn” option was standard on the Eldorado, optional on other Cadillac models. This one however, must have one or two of the horns not working. The purpose of these additional horns was to have a very pleasant sounding 3-tone horn, and yes, they did have a 4-tone option as well. The Trumpet produced a high “C” note, which gave the Caddy a unique and loud pleasant sounding tunes horn note combination.

Not only is that woodgrain. It's real wood. It's called autronic eye. It dims your headlights when another car approaches, then returns to high beam when it passes by. That third stalk sticking out one the right side of the steering column is tilt wheel. First year offered on Cadillac. The wheel on top of the dash next to the A post is for your automatic temperature control. AM/FM radio or stereo, also first year for Cadillac (I think, not positive). That was for cruise control under the hood. This car is super rare, fully loaded including bucket seats and rolling art. Unfortunately we will never see cars like this with this amount of attention to detail and quality.

by the way its a ''town and country'' horn ...there is a switch inside somewhere...you were supposed to switch it in the city and you have a quieter horn but on a higher tone like european cars...and when you go on the highway you turn the 'country' horn wich is way louder but on a lower tone (thats the one we heard, the one with the trumpet) there is another comment about the horn but its inacurate, what you saw is the 'dual tone' you can see the 'town' horn just beside the one with the trumpet

Lou, the "Electric Eye" is actually the "Autronic Eye" Its function is different from what you stated. It does not respond to other cars high beams but rather it dims your high beam to low beam and then back again when another car approaches and then has passed.

Yes that module mounted on the wheel liner is the cruise control. The control switches for it are right above the driver’s HVAC vent on the dash. You zoomed in right on it when you opened the door. Also the photo sensor is the AUTRONIC Eye, not Electronic. GM renamed it Twilight Sentinel in the 1970s and now it’s simply called automatic headlamps.

The article link here says this was a specially built factory Eldorado Coupe! If that was the case, the factory would have (by law) attached a chassis number plate indicating this. If you look at the chassis plate in the video, it clearly shows it is a Coupe DeVille number (6357) of which 31,749 were built. That 1963 year also indicates that there were 1,825 Eldorado Biarritz convertibles built, no Eldorado (6367) hardtop coupes whatsoever. Someone applied the correct Eldorado badging on the sides and trunk of the car and put on a wreath and crest center on the steering wheel. They did a fantastic job making this look like a Eldorado Coupe but the law states that a manufacturers chassis number plate MUST be an accurate description of what the car actually is, in this case, 6357 which is a coupe DeVille! No denying this fact! You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig!

I inherited my grandparents 1963 Cadillac Eldorado they bought brand new from my other grandparents Cadillac Dealership . It had 26,xxx original miles and was Coral Rose with a ivory white top & black and white leather interior. 390 with the hydromatic transmission. Beautiful car . Sadly it was stolen from my driveway one evening and never recovered and I didn't have any comprehensive insurance on it because I was having trouble getting my insurance company at that time to cover it due to it's age. But I would have never gotten rid of the car . Seems like a easy car to track in a small town but it was gone and probably stripped somewhere else

If you're driving down the road with your high beams on, the electronic eye would sense oncoming traffic and switch your lights to low beam so you wont blind approaching drivers.

IN 1963 I PURCHASED A 1963 FLEETWOOD 60 SPECIAL CUSTOM BUILT FOR MRS STAHLEY WHOSE HUSBAND WAS PRESIDENT OF CADILLAC MOTOR DIV. I BOUGHT IT FROM HUMPHREY CADILLAC AND OLDS IN ROCKFORD IL .MR JASON OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP WAS A FRIEND OF THE STAHLEY'S HE SOLD THEIR CARS WHEN THEY WERE GETTING NEW ONES AND THIS WAS ONE .IT WAS FIREMIST SILVER METALLIC AND LANDAU ROOF .THE INTERIOR WAS DAMASCUS SILK AND ITALIAN LEATHER IN GREY WITH MOUTON LAMB CARPETING TO MATCH. IT HAD EVERY ACCESSORY AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. IT HAD 1500 MI ON THE CLOCK AND THE WARRANTY AND MANUAL WAS MADE OUT TO '''GENERAL MOTORS CORP'' DETROIT MICH. I NEVER PAID ANYTHING FOR MAINTENANCE EVEN BLUE CORAL JOBS .GUESS WHY. BUT TO THE POINT THAT ELDO COUPE, THERE IS NO RECORD OF ANY ELDO COUPE BEING MADE IN 1963 NON IN FACT SINCE 1958. 14,000 CONV FOR 63 BUT NO COUPES .THIS HAD TO BE A SPECIAL MADE CAR FOR SOME EXEC. BUT IN THIS DAY IT WAS EASY TO CONVERT A DEVILLE OR SERIES 62 TO AND ELDO AS THEY WERE NOT SPECIAL BODIED CARS AS WAS THE CASE FROM 53 TO 58 THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THE TRIM .THE FLEETWOOD TRIM AS YOU SEE THE ROCKERS THE WREATH AND CREST THE BRUSHED ALUMINUM MOLDINGS AND THE INTERIOR IS THE DEVILLE BASE SEAT FRAMES WITH FLEETWOOD LEATHER. THERE WAS ALSO A'' CHATEAU DEVILLE '' FOR 63/64 SIMILAR TO THIS ELDO ,BUT AGAIN NO RECORD AS THEY WERE FOR SPECIFIC DEALERSHIPS I.E HOLLYWOOD; MIAMI ETC. THERE IS NO COMPARISON TO A CADILLAC OF TODAY VERSES THEN .TODAY THEY ARE LL PERFORMANCE ENGINEERED CARS THEN IT WAS CLASS AND COMFORT EVEN THOUGH IT HAD A 390 CUI 325HP ENGINE. ALSO FOR 62-3 THEY HAD A SPECIAL BUILT EDITION CALLED "'PARK AVE ""A SEDAN DEVILLE SHORTEN BY 12'' FOR NYC. SAME AS THE DEVILLE IN PRICE AND TRIM.
