1962 Tonka Drag Line Mobile Crane Digger Restoration Dragline
I purchased this 1962 Tonka Dragline Crane on eBay December 18th 2021 for $134.14. The crane was amazingly complete for being 60 years old with no major issues outside of having extensive rust and dirt build up. The cranes boom assembly was bent up very badly and the body had multiple dings. After sandblasting the body showed many rust pits which I filled with JB weld and sanded flat. Overall I love how this toy cleaned up and how well it looks now. Thanks soo much for watching!

Incredible. I had my tonsils out when I was seven years old and my mom and my dad got me this very same bucket lifter as a gift for being in the hospital. Thanks chip for the incredible memories. Keep up the great work.
oh!!! little Beaker!! stunning beautiful jaw-dropping restoration!!!!
I had a few Tonka trucks growing up. When I went into the Air Force, my younger brother gave them all to a neighbor kid. My favorite was the drag line crane. In 1964 when my parents had this house built. My drag line crane dug the first scoop for the basement. A real tracked drag line did dig the basement.
These are the ones I like best. My nick name when I was little was Diggers. Thanks for the great entertainment.
No annoying music, no talking, plenty of info, beautiful shots, masterful work.
Классная коллекция восстановленных автомобилей!! Привет из России!
no higher honor or respect can be bestowed upon someone who has painstakingly restored these distressed toys . these toys have mysterious powers that have brought joy and enchantment to us and we personally thank you for this wonderful entertainment . regards; mr and mrs claus and elfin family . ; ]
Love how that J-B Weld works to fill in the pits, but I cannot imagine the repetitive motion aches and pains you endure sanding these parts. I would be constantly seeking an mechanical alternative! 😉 Beaker’s reaction to the paracord is precisely how my cat would react… she’s starting to be a real scene-stealer! Thanks as always for great entertainment and knowledge, Chip! 👍👍👍 ~John

Thank you Primus54!!! Yup, I love the performance of the JB weld, has definitely worked well for me, but yes... my muscle between my thumb and pointer finger takes the brunt of the pain ha. Beaker is definitely becoming a character, she'll be 2 years old May 14th of this year. She's a very spoiled kitty haha.

It's become somewhat of an addiction... If I don't admit to it being a problem ... it's not a problem right?! haha
Meticulous craftsmanship - a work of art. The older rusted version held a real charm. Still, in all, Uda Mon!
I have my original one, I am looking at it on my shelf two feet from me as I type this, from 1967. It was my surprise gift when I got home 3 days after I had my tonsils out. It is I great original condition.
They had the best toys ... shame our kids grow up with plastic junk. Thank you for preserving our past.
iceberg of beauty that you poured Those tactile fingers..! velvet rash.., everything is different here He gives you wellness..and to deprive us of you I look forward to seeing you again
Thats a beauty, Classic Toys just have the character, well if you know, you know.
awww what an affectionate pet owner. little Beaker loves you so much. your interaction is so sweet
Thank you for not having annoying music or adds or talking. Just having the basic videos. Great work.
I'm impressed how many common parts there are between all these models. This to the mobile crane, to any of the normal trucks!
Спасибо огромное за такое хорошие видео 😀👍👍👍
Had this one=) This and the Erector Set got a lot of use from all 6 of us kids!! Love your Sunday Morning videos!!
I wish that I could get one of these for myself as a reminder of my father who was a operator of one of these
👌😳👍wow! I’m impressed with this one! I have one just like that one that it looked way better than that one used to look! Now that one looks way better than when it was new! 👌🥰👍
A trick from a steel worker: if the metal is _flat_ with no contours, do your JB Weld, then get a vibrating sander, put it upside down in a vise and turn it on, and do your sanding by running the flat pieces back and forth over the vibrating sander. It speeds things up.
Glad to find another restoration channel like this! No music or commentary, just the sound of the work being done and getting to see the process from start to finish.

You were lucky today. Tha catspector was only testing the tension of the cables. She knows what is important , safety wise , on a crane . The attention for all the small things is outstanding . Bravo !
Thank you for again starting my week off with a miracle. Watching you turn rust into a toy I would serious love to play with is just ..... incredible. And of course, LONG LIVE THE CYCLOPEEP!
I didn’t have this Tonka, but I do have the Ants in the Pants game. That brought back great memories from the early 70’s. Great job! Thanks for the video.
this type of work requires patience and more of the same, skills and time. Another wonderful restoration.

I have watched a lot of restos lately, and nobody, I mean nobody is on your level of restoration, you can take those parts out of the acid, give them a lite brushing, go back in the acid for just a dip, do a water dip, and go directly into your nickel solution, it would eliminate the flash rust.I was in the plating industry for years, For steel parts, we scrubbed in electro cleaner, water rinse, hydrocloric acid dip, water rinse and right into the nickel tank. The acid mildly etches it, and makes it except the nickel plating very well, we always went into the nickel tank wet, just a tip, love your restos.
Nice job it's great to see real Cooper tanka turck restored thank you
Watching sandblasting is so satisfying. Beautiful work.
Love the restoration. Miss the sheep antics.
The beauty of Tonka just knock the rust off
I don't know why, but the blasting of old paint and rust, and seeing pristine metal underneath is my favorite part of the videos! Keep up the excellent work!

J B weld is good and strong but when I was painting cars we used glazing putty. It can be wet sanded much easier. We would primer our surface then putty it and a second primer and sand it.
Тhe result is impressive Mate !👍👍👍

Immaculate workmanship with a perfect result. I love this one and cannot believe the tracks are the original ones. Beautiful.
Another great restoration. Looking at your collection I don't see what is probably the most common steel toy of all. The big yellow Tonka Dump Truck.
If you are looking for string to replace the drag lines, braided fish lines would be good, and if needed, comes in a number of colors, including black.
Have a nice day is a great touch 🙂
