I always loved how Chrysler tucked the exhaust up in the frame and wrapped it to the body, and then dove the pipe, at 30 degrees, exiting below the rear bumper. No straight pipe out the back, they always paid attention to detail, back in the day, nothing like what they produced over the last forty years. Beautiful car..... I don't care what people think, I love this era of Chrysler products.

I know 10 year old models are not much different,no style anymore.

I think the 1962 Plymouth's were one of the most beautifully and uniquely designed Cars of 1962!💕

I was born in 1961, but this car makes my heart skip a beat: beautiful chrome trim, RW&B insignias, taillights and how they reflect on the body, push button transmission selector, all they goodies as you say. Such attention to detail back in the day. Plus I am glad to hear he drives this on a semi-regular basis. Good man he is! Thanks Lou & your guest today for a wonderful car!

After I recked my 59 in 78 I bought a stunning 62 Fury Convertible. Mine had the 413 in it too. Stunning car. It was silver and had it had a matching interior. I kept it till I graduated in 79 then I bought a boring Simca. Have to tell you it was quite the experience driving it in the snow!

1962 Plymouth is one of my favorites. Virgil Exner design team created this beautiful machine. Chrysler unfortunately fired him. There actually was a prototype of a 1962 DeSoto but of course they stopped production of DeSoto in Nov of 60, selling last few as a 1961 model then it was goodbye DeSoto. I really enjoyed this video because the 1962 Plymouth was just the right size of car but obviously not for the early sixties era. It's nice to see automobiles that are different. Thanks again! Beautiful car!

I once owned a 64 Belvedere back in the late 60s. I used to think the 62s looked ugly but today I would almost prefer one of these unique looking B body cars.

A friend of a friend had this car in white, back in the day, built motor, manual valve body push button Torqueflite, bigs and littles, and man it was quick, if not scary. He had it jacked up in the back with huge tires. It would run high 12's all day. But with tiny drum brakes, it had it's frightening side!

Wow what a story and what a car! I was born in early 60's and could identify (pretty much) any car brand without seeing them by listening to the starter and motors back when automobiles had unique characteristics (especially sounds). Thanks for putting this on youtube. It brings back memories. Too bad antiques and classics are no longer appreciated by the newer generation. All they want is the latest WIFI and computerization available in today's cars. I suspect automobiles of today will become disposable like cell phones and the "latest and greatest technology" will only matter to them unfortunately. I distinctly remember similar models like yours used in "It's a mad, mad, mad mad world" which was the latest production back then.

Great to see video of Tom's rare '62 Sport Fury supercar. First saw it at the April 2015 Larry Roesch season-opening show in Elmhurst, and it grabbed me back then! Tom's a great guy, and glad to see he's enjoying it. Didn't realize Tom found it through our mutual car buddy up in Wisconsin!

I have always thought the 1962 Plymouth is the cleanest and handsomest ever. The last season of Leave it to Beaver a 1962 was the family car and was the central character in one episode. Beautiful car, so much appreciate seeing it.

So many people disliked this styling of this years Dodge and Plymouth downsized full sized cars. They called it a European styling and me being me loved this style because it was different and the fact dad bought a used ‘62 Plymouth Wagon in 1966 I was 4 years old. I still remember him coming home in the driveway and me being so excited we got a new car. New to our family of 7.

What a neat car that engine and engine sound! Wow! The old push button drive. Last time I saw one of these is on Leave It To Beaver! I love the blue and white colors. WOW Lou, you are sure highlighting some Fantastic cars this season !! Like I've said before in earlier videos I just Love Mopar's "Ugly Ducklings" that I heard them called years ago in my 40yrs of going to car Shows. They have a Beauty all their own and the engineering, drafting that went into these 1960s cars with all the curves and angles just fascinates me during this time in American cars !! This is one Beautiful Sport Fury !!! Love it in "Sleeper" White with that Nice 413 Wedge he has a rare car !! Well go out "back in the day", Drag Racing Saturday night and then go to Church Sunday morning and ask for forgiveness !! Lol : D Nice job Lou

Lou, the story about the man's wife that wanted the Imperial re=minds me of a true story. In 1976 my friend bought his wife an Oldsmobile 88 from the local Cadillac Olds dealer. After 2 weeks of ownership his wife told me how happy she was that her husband bought her a Cadillac. I was surprised and told her it was an Olds. She said the dealer's name on the trunk was a Caddy dealer. When I told her they also sold Oldsmobiles she realized what she had and got angry demanding her husband sell the car and buy a Cadillac! He did and she got a baby blue Coupe deville with a white padded top! True story!!

This car is a marvelous find. I've never been a fan of the styling of these vehicles, however what you have there is a top of the line period correct Sport Fury hardtop with the top engine option. This is not a bare bones Savoy with a 225 6. A great find.

I'd love to have a 62 Dodge or Plymouth with the 413 Max Wedge and the 727 auto trans. They were ugly but man oh man were they fast!!! Not really streetable but still an AWESOME car. Also the coolest looking Intake and Exhaust manifolds ever on any production car in my opinion

Yes that is a period correct Alternator . Chrysler was first to have one in 1960 when it came in the Valiant and by the end of 1961 it was in their complete Line of cars .

Alternators were also found on all the 1960 Chrysler 300-F Pont-a-Moussin 4-Speed short ram cars. Again, Mopar an industry leader. My '60 300-F has its generator, but all the '61 Chrysler Corp. cars had alternators, as Gary says.

Beautiful car and a great job in documentation and maintaining! My first car was a 65 Chrysler 300 with the 413 wedge. When "pedal to the metal" you could actually watch the gas gauge go down! Thank goodness for 25 cent gas!

My mom purchased a new 1963 convertible sport fury (red) from a Plymouth dealer's wife. It was the demo car. She loved it. She didn't like the style of the 1962. The '63 Sport Fury was her first new car when she was 21. She traded it in 1968.

@@loucostabile our mom had a kid brother who liked her car too, so he purchased the same one - but it was a 1963 black 'golden commando' version sport fury with a red top and red interior. she said he wanted to outshine her because he was a male. she said less than a year after purchasing his, he was drinking & driving too fast, ran off the road and down a steep embankment. the car was totaled but he was fine. she said it served him right. I think yours is a golden commando, so the engine was the biggest one available; too powerful for a 20 year-old, which was our uncle's age at the time.

That is a beauty! I always loved the '62 Dodge and Plymouths, even though others didn't fall head over heels with them. They weren't bad cars, just not as popular. Chrysler shot itself in the foot with the downsized '62s, and buyers stayed away and turned to the real full sized cars. But nothing could stop them on the drag strip! And the '62 Plymouth had a long production run, lasting all the way until 1979, albeit with multiple styling changes. Later, of course, came cars like the Road Runner, GTX, and Dodge Charger. All of those were B-bodies, like the '62 Plymouth!

Great video Lou, love those old Plymouths. I believe 65 was the first year the Fury grew a few inches and was no longer using the Belvedere platform. That's where things get a little confusing for me. Can someone explain the difference between the Fury I, II, III? To top it off they even had a Sports Fury.

The '65 Fury moved from the B body to the larger C body platform. The Fury I, II, III, Sport Fury (not Sports) and eventually VIP ('66-'69 for the VIP trim) were all trim levels of the same basic car.

@@dnanestrau Absolutely correct! The B body transitioned to the Satellite model and the Fury went to the larger C body platform....IMHO Chrysler was attempting to expand the market and the larger Fury was not as desirable....rarely see them at car shows....

And no powere steering from what I can see either!!! The 1st. muscle car imo. It predates the GTO 2 yrs. An important historical did-bit is this is the 1st. B body. This car has the same platform as all the Road Runners, Chargers, Super Bees, etc. Great video!

More proof that Chrysler built the 1st Original Muscle Cars, it was not GM/Pontiac with the GTO (heavier/less HP btw..lol). Mopar even advertised these as performance cars. Super nice car Sir...Thank you for sharing it! Thank you also for the memories too. I had a 64 Sport Fury I miss so dearly. I only sold it because my back blew out and I went through 2 failed surgeries forcing me into early retirement. I felt bad the ol' lady was foot'n all our bills while my SS was so slow starting. Imagine that huh? Less than 2 weeks after selling mine my SS went through, I am still sick over it, 20 yrs later. I do get to visit it at car shows fwiw.. Grrrr!! Love the Max Wedge. and the 1962 Plymouth fury body style.what a race package.these would put the GM and ford super stock cars on the trailer.406 Ford's and 409 Chevy were no match for the Max Wedge.

@@loucostabile I have always liked the 62s,I had a 62, 2dr hard top Chrysler Newport I think they are a sharp looking car,mine had the economy 361c.i big block with 2bbl carb it would still light up right rear tire.i would still like to have one.just writing this makes me want one.and I like the Plymouth featured even if it had a 318 it wouldn't matter as long as it was a hard top.you feature some very nice car's.
