1960's Nylint Lil Tow Dune Buggy Tow Truck Restoration
I purchased this 1960's Nylint Lil Tow Dune Buggy Tow Truck on eBay July of 2021 for $42.46. I had never seen one of these until this one and was super happy to win the auction. Overall it was in great shape and a perfect candidate for a restoration. The body had severely faded and damaged paint with only a couple spots under the seat that showed the original colors. The tow boom was missing almost all of its paint until I flipped it upside down and found the original color was white. All of the plated parts were in pretty rough shape, I decided to powder coat the hub caps due to the pitting on the surfaces and I nickel plated the windshield, tow winch, and axles. This is the first project I have ever made an injection mold for and was pleasantly surprised with how it came out. The biggest challenge is running the tiny bits at the correct feeds and speeds, I used a .010 inch flat endmill to do the final milling of all the detail work, in total I had roughly 23 hours of cutting time for this mold. I'm pretty sure the right operator could cut that way down, however with the price of the bits and how fragile they are, I was perfectly happy with the time required. Decided to play it safer rather than faster. The injection mold came out great, in my opinion it came out better than factory due to the letters being a little deeper which allows them to be seen better. It really opens some doors to make some restoration parts bringing injection molding into the picture. I definitely have tons to learn with the process but feel super encouraged with this project turning out better than anticipated. The only thing I wish I could have done better on this restoration was the rear tires. With all the little details and how rough the original set was, I chose to find some better used tires, maybe some day I'll make an injection mold for those as well. The decals left a little something to be desired however I had to make those as well since no one has these available to purchase. Thank you everyone for watching and if you haven't already, please consider subscribing! Thank you!!

The entire time I was thinking about how robust the toys were in those days. Nowadays, we have a lot of cheap plastic options that break and get thrown away easily, generating a lot of waste. Some of the toys are not even well thought out and created to only fulfill temporary interests. Anyway! Lovely restoration. It's incredible how much dedication you put into it, creating your own molds and everything. Very enjoyable to watch.
What glorious Sunday!!! Plenty of leftovers to munch on and watch a master work. Boy oh boy!
Another nice restoration tanks.
I have a trick I've used for years to clean plastic parts with lots of nooks and crannies. I put the parts in an athletic sock and run it through the wash with my other laundry. The detergent, warm water, and gentle agitation does a very good job. If the parts are fragile you might want to skip the spin cycle, though I've never broken a part using this method.

It probably acts very much like that ultrasonic cleaner I've seen a few times.
Your workshop is sensational. It certainly puts my 2 spanners, a screwdriver and a hammer to shame. Great restorations, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Awesome job on the tiers
The sheer amount of resources hes got is insane to me. Amazing restoration.

Always nice to have a gigantic kitty in the mix, admiring your resto!
Dune buggy wrecker, unique,as always great video, you’ve outdone yourself 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Super cool, especially self-made replacement details, very expensive, but cool.
Like Sam the cooking guys channel... I clicked the 👍 before i watched, why because i know it will be F ing awesome !
I finished my morning chores and I was watching this restoration. I had to pause this because it was my lunch time and I did not want to miss anything. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
I’m running out of descriptive accolades to describe your work, Chip! Outstanding, as always. The work that went into those whitewall replacements was extremely interesting. Also kind of interesting that the fender decals only go on one side(?). After the review of all your previously restored work it occurred to me that you must go through a lot of Swiffer duster refills! Thank you for the biweekly entertainment. 👍👍👍 ~ John

I actually remember Nylint toys only having decals on one side. Since most of their toys were sold in an open-sided box, only the side of the car/truck that faced outward got decals. As a kid, I thought it was weird.
Wow brilliant work again and such a finish. Thank you..
Another great job on restoring a toy from the past that some kid had fun with.
Oh yes, it is my favorite! I will keep looking for another restore to make favorite
Some serious new kit there…..aluminium sheep keychains for chip channel shop!? Great restoration. Really fine job and a pleasure to watch.

He has the tools now to make a lot of parts he could make/sell to other restorers. My dad has a Galion brand dump truck, prob'ly 1950s or '60s. I haven't found any pics of his truck online, so I can't narrow it down much. I don't have any tools to restore, but even though none of us kids get along w/ him, as someone who loves history, I want to keep that truck when he dies.
You do a good job at Restoration old toy from the pass

That's where my husband was born. He goes there twice a year 😀
The restoration work has been done really well, but honestly it's the first time I've seen a dune buggy tow truck! 😄
The older toys hold up so much better than today's do. It's nice to see them get restored.
Looks supercool. Love the colour and the stickers
I notice that most of your items come without caked on rust and dirt. If you ever get a car or truck with baked on dirt and rust, I hope you will do manual labor by scrubbing and chipping before using the sandblaster. This is no way a dislike, I just love to watch the scrubbing and chipping. I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite of all your restorations, I’m watching everything you are doing with joy as you clean, create, and it is obvious you put your heart in this (and every one you do) restore. As I’ve said before, you are my favorite restorer!

Bonjour , C'est vraiment très beau tout ces petits véhicules la rénovation est remarquable . Merci de nous partager une belle aventure 🙂🙂🚗🚙🚎🚚
Lots to be said here. First, it always brings a smile to my face when I see those beat up vehicles because it means that at some point in the past some kid really had tons of fun with it. Then, the restoration itself; this is nothing less than a masterclass. For every conceivable problem you come up with solutions with a surprising array of tools and machines. Then there's the dedication, easily seen with the time spent making the molds for the whitewalls. This truly makes you the best damned restorer on YT! Can't wait to see the next one and always hoping to see the Tonka truck I had as kid and that my father threw away.

I used to play scrapyards with my toy cars by smashing them flat with a hammer, just like in a real scrapyard. His scrapyard is a bit tame, he just piles them up, but I guarantee if they came into my scrapyard, he wouldn't be restoring them!
Finally, where have you been?

He went from every week to every other week last winter after a combo of injuries or surgeries & that series of freezing, flooding weather last winter. Might've experienced power outage(s), too, but can't remember for sure abt that part.
A very very good job well done ! make's me think of my younger day's!
Great Work!!! That turned out Awesome!!👍
When you started cutting into that aluminum block, I was like, why is he making those plastic Whitehall pieces out of aluminum. Then you made the other piece. Ok I said, just pour plastic into it. Noooo, you had to break out the miniature injection molding machine, BOOM!!! Blew my mind dude. I used to work on injection molding machine and that little thing was the coolest. Great job.
I started watching this channel for the powder coating (and the sheep!) but you amaze me with all the new techniques and that you show all the steps. I was in awe at the injection molded new whitewall retaining rings. No steps are skipped and no fake trickery like in many of these resto channels. Just incredible restorations!
I had one of these as a kid -- a hand-me-down from someone, probably an older cousin. It was that 1960's shade of light blue that was so popular. Well done!
Thanks for another incredible restoration, beautiful job! Wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to dive into restorations myself. I’ve done around 10 Tonkas so far and each one seems to be getting better, my powder coating still isn’t as good as it could be but I’m getting there. I’m currently working on a Snorkel and I have a Jeep Dune Buggy (from my childhood) next in line. Thanks for the inspiration and the hours of enjoyment watching and learning from your videos!

Beautiful work the paint is flawless lv it
Tu no tienes un taller, ¡¡Tienes una fábrica metalúrgica!! ¡Bravo!
Ahhh. I just got it 'Li'l Tow' as in 'Little Toe' 🧡 Superb as always 🧡
This is an absolutely beautiful restoration of a very kool car!!! ...and that red!!!!!
I used to have this exact car. Man I miss my childhood...
Looks better than new. You may try chucking the old tires in a drill press and while spinning them heat them with a heat gun, sometimes you can save them.
You just took it to a whole new level with those white wall inserts. Your channel never disappoints.
Really nice resto. Especially fabbing the molds for the rubber sidewalls. Very insightful. Thanks for sharing.
As usual, Awesome job.
Wow another fine job …. 👍🏻👍🏻 keep the videos coming please
Absolutely gorgeous, as usual, the paint looks like glass. I see you are investing quite a few bucks into your`e restoration arsenal, that`s an amazing piece of machinery, wow 5 hours and creating your own molds, and rubber injection. No more buying good used whitewalls. Stunning to say the least.
I have to say by the look of those tires and the pulley wheel that was a well loved toy to some young child. Glad to see it get a second chance.
Cute little buggy and AWESOME restoration (very impressive tool). I hope the next one is the truck with the carrousel (?).

Just changed up your whole game. Lot of possibilities. 👍
Now you’re just showing off! Nice little CNC mill with some serious skills!!
Pretty! Head for the sandbox and hope the dunes aren't built on something the kitty left behind.
Nice resto! I enjoyed the new molding. Looks like something "my mechanics" would do, very cool.

INSANE JOB, CONGRATS!!!
Those white-wall inserts are absolutely unbelievable.
Didn't know there was a dune buggy tow truck love the white and red fantastic job again 👏
Impressed with how you dealt with the spot welds. I've seen many videos where the restorer has left the item partially assembled rather than deal with spot welds. Good Job!
WoW! Just WoW! Restorated beyond recognition! And I always respect the whole work.
Great work as always . better then new . WOW WOW . SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL .
Chip has the tools expertise and most of all the patience to restore these old "well loved" forgotten toys back to better than original sore shelf condition. Great work!

I was thinking of saying something that's sentimental the most, do you even restore old timer text books, guide books and reading books? That's all kinds of books. 🤔
This buggy is so cool 👍, and the before/after is really impressive
Wow Chip, every video you show up with some new surprising novelty. Beautiful restoration!
Nice restoration project well done.
Awesome restoration as always. That "Lil Tow" vehicle looks amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Chip The red is perfect Outcome beautiful
Awesome
This one completely blew me away 👍 very impressed with the injection molding. The finished project looks absolutely amazing.
It's always a fantastic feeling to watch Chip Channel's restoration video. This has been outstanding. 👍
Congratulation chip Channel the Fábio and Rafael from Brazil. The wonderfull restauration. Good look the chanel.
What an awesome job, enjoy watching and learning from the master
Man what a job this was. Love the plastic injection. Very cool. Well done, that powder coat is a beautiful finish
That turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! I love buggies.
Chip I think you have outdone yourself with this one. I look forward to your new release every week. Very impressive. Really enjoyed the CNC work and making the mold, as well as the injection molding. Guess you will have a Tonka whitewall mold in stock very soon and not be buying anymore! I was also interested since it was Nylint. I have a few leftovers from my childhood in the 50s that are Nylint construction equipment. Do a Nylint Hough front end loader sometime so I know how to fix mine :). Great restore and great video work as usual. Thanks for sharing your passion.
What a "Transformation" from rusty and beat up to "Absolutely Magnificent"! Thanks 👍 for saving another one from the "Junk Yard 😜". Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋 🍰🎂 🥳🎉 🎈 Man", "World 🌎🌍 Cruiser"&"Succulent Collector", and "Teacup's & Saucer's Set's and Teapot 🫖 Collector".
BAM, He takes it up another notch, just when you think he can’t (because they are perfect). Love the nylint rims!
Please do lots more of your restorations! They help me forget my pain. I enjoy them so!
What a lot of goodies you have to restore. Wish you were here to do them more often.
You are getting better and better with every video. It is impressive.
Those concealed rivets and surprise spot welds are beyond evil...
Nice to see a product from my home town being used in your video 😁 I enjoy all your restoration videos
Me gustaría volver a ser Niño..!..jaaaaa...Excelente Restauración (Great restaration)...Saludosss my Friend
I remember having a very similar toy as a kid in the 70s. I don't recall if it was this exact model, must have been. It I remember it being a different color. I love this channel. It's like a much needed time machine to see my old toys come to life again
Started as a ‘screech buggy’ and ended as a ‘peach buggy’! Superb resto! And hasn’t Beaker got big! What a handsome boy he is!
You've been teasing this thing for like 3 months
Wow every restoration is just over the top quality, I have a 1982 Tonka dozer from my childhood that needs restoration after years of building roads in my dad's garden , but finding some parts in South Africa is a nightmare hopefully one day I can get it looking new again. Great channel. 👍
amazing restoration 👌🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😃
Very nice, excellent paint job! Had not seen this particular toy before, beautiful restoration!
With Steady hands like this, you could be a Surgeon, however I am gad you re not! This is the coolest Video EVER!! Wow!
who would of thought the little dune buggy would of been put together so well.
Wow. Just Wow. You are some kind of incredible magician. And the injection mold making was awe-inspiring. As someone who has problems with making/restoring ANYTHING, you are incredible. And, of course, LONG LIVE THE CYCLOPEEP! Thank you for making my week start off on a bright note!
I always find it so satisfying to watch the sand blasting on the parts and bringing the metal back to life. Anyone else feel that way too?
