Yeah buddy congratulations you got it I have no idea why people do that it’s my biggest pet peeve I absolutely hate it when people do that to me in my truck and then Have to drive slower because they won’t go over 10 miles an hour down the road The other one that really grinds my gears of people that sit in the passing lane and will not pass the car in front of them to the point where you can pass on the left which really makes them mad.. i’m thinking about making stickers that say I did what you couldn’t do and I passed the car in front of you.. =)

64 dual Ghia 57 Dual Ghia What a really beautiful automobile just classy from one end to the other. The way the lines just flow so smoothly from one feature to the next is very impressive. I have heard of these but I have never seen one in the wild so I really appreciate you posting this one Jay thanks a lot for it. I really appreciate it. Being able to see cars like this is one of the big reasons why I love your channel keep it up.

Great choices you know me I love showing the cars off the beaten path and there’s a ton more to come I was able to do a 1931 Jordan which that’s the episode that’s coming next it’s probably going to be tomorrow I got a lot of stuff to do today, I also found a 1933 Nash advanced 8 (it has the eight cylinder engine with nine main bearings twin ignition overhead valve absolutely insane the guy has a collection of them we’re going to go back and do more out of his collection he has one every single wheelbase this one was in the middle wasn’t the smallest wheelbase but it was the next one up) glad you still dig this channel =) I’m going to wait until the base gets built up a little bit more and then I’m going to start going for the high cars like Duesenberg Auburn.. I saw six Duesenberg’s at Hershey it was almost like they wasn’t rare

16:45 As a kid, my folks had a '57 Imperial, and the rectangle "knobs" to control the fan, wipers, et al. looked very similar to the ones on this car. (although positioned differently, of course)

Thanks for the review, I had heard of the Dual Ghia but never knew much about them. This example is impressive. To bad about the rear seat, one would think a package shelf would be more useful. Love the low to high chirp, that motor has a lot of torque. Thanks for the narrative, it is informative and enjoyable. 🙂

I shot this car in two days, One of the guys that work for Hyman told me to come back at the end of the day Friday and he would take me for a ride in it while it was outside every shot the video that was an absolutely incredible experience.. I’ve looked at their inventory that is a place that I really wanna go and feature some cars I told them that the car is that they have for sale or second to none as far as presentation goes like if you want the best of the best car that is the place to go.. all of their cars look like they were made yesterday, volo is another place I’d like to go review some cars Maybe next year who knows

"Just wow..." Well said my friend. Aside from the original Studebaker Starlight coupe/ Hawk, nothing on the road at that time had such a presence. I'm a little suprised, considering the exclusivity, that the poly V8 was even offered. The cowl/ windshield look to be straight off a regular Dodge convertible but that is where the similarities end. It is sad that most of today's offerings are so lacking in imagination & Style. Thanks for another gem.( And especially the drive) Keep 'em coming bro...👍🏁

Sweet choices =) I thank Hyman they could have said no they were very cool I was at hershey 3 days I saw that car Wednesday and couldn’t believe it, all their stuff is top notch stuff like they only sell the best of the best cars. You can buy a car there and take it to pebble that’s how nice it is. I shot the car Thursday, guy driving ( not sure if I’m allowed to give out names) said come back at the end of Friday and I’ll take you for a ride =)

Judging for the video, that car rides better than a new one.

315 isn’t a big block.. electric cars being green is all just smoke and mirrors and is a total lie.. going to do an episode on it one day because the pollution caused by mining cobalt and lithium ion as well as producing the batteries themselves is probably way more detrimental to the environment than gasoline cars. The bigger thing that nobody talks about is they have no way of getting rid of the lithium ion batteries once they are spent. It’s like cryptocurrency speculation.. two really stupid things main stream, with one major thing in common speculation. Don’t get me wrong I love electric cars but I think it should be your choice and what you drive the government should not have any role in it whatsoever if you want to drive a gasoline car they should not make it where you have to buy an electric car that’s what’s happening oil prices have gone up gasoline prices have gone up there’s no shortage they’re just trying to push everybody into a hole.. and do you think that they’re going to lose the money per gallon that they charge in taxes they’re gonna make everybody’s electric bill go up more people use electric than people that drive so government will get a bigger kick back than gasoline.. it’s always about money. It’s not about the environment that is the lie that they push if it was about the environment they would make hydrogen cars just saying..

It would be super hard to pick one I wanted to show all the lines of the 57 because I don’t think I’ll ever get that chance again I should’ve done the glove box test lol I couldn’t bring myself to do it while I was sitting in the car it’s a really expensive car it is probably the most expensive car besides the Chrysler turbine car I’ve done for the channel so far

I remember seeing an old Motor Trend, or maybe a Car Life from the early 60's when it still carried Classifieds. There was one of those Dual Ghias I from the 50's for sale for about 1200.00. These were beautiful cars, especially in the era it was built, but it was also the incredible aura that surrounded it that made it fascinating. Similar to a Duesenberg car, a car of the rich and flashy, as opposed to Packard, a car of the rich, discriminating, and quiet dignity. I remember seeing an old film showing one on the set of "Dead Ringer" 1964. It showed Peter Lawford arriving still driving his personal copy, and fretting he might have a tiny scratch on the fender. You wouldn't see that car everyday, not even in flashy Hollywood. Howard Hughes was ahead of his time, in those days he drove, or was driven in a nondescript Chevrolet with black walls. He wisely didn't advertise his wealth, more common today among the wise. I'll take any of the cars offered, guaranteed money in the bank. Miss the Imperial Palace, my once favorite in Las Vegas. Oh, that Duesenberg room!

I only got to go to the imperial palace once I’ve only been to Vegas once, same with California only been there once I was 16 years old and not much is changed just a little bit bigger than I was back then I love weird cars then as well.. i’m pretty sure the gear was the second generation I was just an absolute awe of it but I also saw the price tag and that was more money than I ever saw on a car.. it was all roped off I wish that place was still around Great story thank you so much for sharing those memories with us I have a 1964 edition of road and track the one with the Mustang on the cover in the back there is a 1926 Bugatti type 35 for sale for $5000 just think they didn’t make replicas of that point in time yes that was a lot of money but that’s nowhere near what it’s worth now

That is a car that has always interested me I want to cover as many cars as possible especially want to get into some of those oddball cars like that I would love to cover an Aston Martin DB series I want to build up the base before I go after something like that though.. Those cars are huge asks I wasn’t going to ask to do the Kia but something in my head said I had to and that was like the only one that was ever going to see I saw the first day I did some research on it and found out how rare it was figured the worst they could say is no.. Hyman was great I actually shot that car twice Thursday I did the walk around and all the other stuff but I didn’t ask to get in it or anything there was a lot of people inside the tent and it was parked pretty close they had a pretty big tent with 8 cars in it and a few out side The one guy working there Told me come back Friday around three or 330 when they’re cleaning up and they would give me a ride in it and I was like seriously that was awesome Great choices the next episode is going to be 1931 Jordan I’m not sure if it’s gonna go up tonight or if it’s going to go out tomorrow I have to build a pretty big cabinet today.. So probably tomorrow there’s a lot of cool background history on that one I wrote half the script last night

WYR: I'll take them all. Cars from before the emissions crackdown in the '70s are better than a lot of new ones. I'm surprised the tune wasn't the Ike For President campaign ad. The tune is insanely catchy. I've paid attention to the background in Jay Leno's videos, and he is in fact lacking a Dual Ghia. I'm glad you got the chance to see that one before you left Hershey. The fact it's been 18 YEARS since you saw the other one is what makes this even more special. For all we know, you might never get to see another one.

@@lurch789 The good thing about them is that if you mess up in a major way, you WILL die. That's great incentive to drive correctly. Some fins on cars look terrible, but 1959 Cadillacs have the best fins in my opinion. Watch Ghostbusters for proof why.

I believe the back seat was to avoid import duties on 2 seaters. That is why 911’s have back seats. Four passenger cars were cheaper to import.

Hi Jay!: That Dual-Ghia is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen! The color combo is SUPER! The Hemi version would be even faster! WOW! Now for the WYR. . .#1 That GORGEOUS 1957, of course! #2. . .The SAME!

Its a shame they didn't add a few more carbs to both motors at that price...the poly had a good running reputation but was sorely undercarburated...its a favorite today in classic dyno contests

Love looking at pre 60's vehicles, especially niche cars like the Dual-Ghia. I realize that tail fins were all the rage in the mid 50's, but I think the execution of these by Ghia detract from the overall form of the body lines. The fins themselves are too flat and squared off; they resemble a couple strips of wood tacked on top of the rear fenders. I think if they had reshaped these as exaggerated creases that mimic the trunk lid center, it might have been a more cohesive look. Just my opinion...

My only criticism is writing .25 in place of 1/4 for the speed. Otherwise you’re content is great Tom

I did not get in the glove box I couldn’t bring myself to put the camera in a half a million dollar car to date this is the most expensive car I’ve been in, I was a bit nervous I even asked when I got in if he wanted my shoes off lol

All of those cars I wanna do one day the goal is to cover as many as possible I would love to cover at least one car from every car manufacturer from 1930 to 1964.. but I want to do multiple body styles in the 50s 40s from regular cars companies like Ford Chevy Pontiac Chrysler and definitely want to do the stuff off the beaten path as well we are here for the long Haul

Hyman has some of the most interesting stuff and excellent internet presentations, but boy you do pay for it ;)

Awesome story these cars were faster than I think the specs that lead on to be and I wondered if you put it in low how far you could drive in low before you had to shift it to drive because it’s only up to speed so you might be able to go 60 miles an hour in first year I had a 67 mustang with an FMX transmission it was a three speed and you could go to 60 in first gear but I mean you had to shift it right at 60 it was only good for 110 really long first gear the other two gears were pretty short. But man if you drove it like that it turned into a whole different car it was pretty slow if you put it in drive and just went for it but if you shifted it manually the fastest time I got was 0 to 60 in 5 1/2 seconds.. that was also another car you couldn’t get into it right off the rip you had a kind of like gradually go into it otherwise the rear end would break loose and you wouldn’t be able to go fast quick you would just be burning out.. Man I miss that car.. but it’s one of those things if I had the money to buy another one I don’t think that I would I would buy something else it’s not about speed for me it’s about driving experience and right now if I had $5000 I’d buy Nash Metropolitan.. lol

These are the only post WW2 Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth cars I have ever lusted after. Nice.

It’s such an epic car this was the highlight of my year or one of them definitely going to do a reflection episode and cover some of the stuff that happened behind the scenes this year it’s been an incredible year honestly can’t wait to see where we’re at next year at the channel has come along way in two years =) Mid50s Chrysler to me is the pinnacle of Chrysler yes they made some more performance options in the 70s but it doesn’t really get much better..

Around 1980 I was offered dual-ghia prototype number 14 for $3,500 it was very rusty and had been sitting outside with no top for years so I passed. The car was metallic green with green and yellow diamond pattern leather interior. I wonder if prototype#14 went to the crusher ??

I forgot to mention these are very rust prone that’s why there are so few coupled with the fact all the body panels are welded together They are awesome cars tho the other negative is turning radius they don’t turn sharp

They are rare I was going to put in the video Duesenberg are expensive but most of them were saved so they arent rare but when it comes to rare cars they’re not the rarest thing out there..

Note .. Duesenberg Model J's are not supercharged. The SJ and SSJ were supercharged of which only 32 were made.

Yeah the software’s been doing that it’s really pissing me off.. I updated my iPad for the very first time and now I’ve haven’t, nothing but issues with it I wish I never updated it. I’ve down loaded and re-download the software numerous times I’m doing the last update to make my iPad totally up-to-date hopefully that fixes things because I’ve had to change how I record things because it’s generally way worse than that is I’ve been recording it in three different segments now and it still gets jumbled up.. but that’s neither here nor there and figure it out and fix it lol Great choices

Hey man went thru the same thing with my Firefox browser last week, couldn't watch any videos, every time I open one video will play and after a few minutes the page freezes up the whole computer, after a couple of reboots I had to delete the browser and install one of the old versions I've saved and set the reinstalled browser to never update, since it is only for e-mails and videos, not financial transactions. Just now catching up on watching your videos, and others I like. Guess it's the tech companies October surprise. hope you get everything sorted out.

Not sure it was a really hard name it doesn’t roll off your tongue like fire dome does.. I really struggled with this one I wish you guys could’ve saw how many takes I did it sounds like one cohesive piece but I can assure you that there’s so many cuts in that episode Because I just couldn’t say the lines were like tongue twisters

They looked so odd with no chrome edging to them (especially when looking directly at them from the back)…just blunt painted steel…had an unfinished look to me.

I live in a town with natives who love to break traffic laws, and I have noticed that when people are doing something they know is asinine, they often slow down to give the people they are butting in front of a chance to miss them.

That’s crazy.. The other one that really grinds my gears as when people sit in the passing lane but they won’t pass the vehicle in front of them when I was in Michigan and there was a line of cars behind this one guy I got in the left lane and passed everybody and then he pulled up next to me and wanted to sideswipe me because I actually passed the car in front of me.. I don’t know people are weird.. I don’t like being a road clot lol

You may want to change the title to”an” absolutely, from “a” absolutely.

PowerFlite trans, a Chrysler transmission, not Powerglide. Powerglide is a Chevrolet trans, and Chrysler never ever ever used GM transmissions. Ever. Also, we never measured torque in NM. Ever.

I know someone wanted me to start using NM never said the transmission was power glide someone in the comments did there was so much conflicting information on what transmissions were used power flite definitely, that’s what they used but there was also mention of torque flite but I couldn’t back that up there was also information saying the 361 V-8 was used but I could never find any pictures of that engine in the engine bay. I went back and listen to it again the first one I said power flight the second one I miss spoke and said powerglide but it should be power flight thank you for that correction.. =)

I never remove comments, youtube does I’ll check the separate box comments go two different places I checked no previous comment repost the comment and I’ll see if it comes through.. I hate when KZread deletes comments..

Powerflyte =) I saw conflicting information where the torque flight was also available but I never could find a picture with the gear selector because the gear selector would be different so I didn’t include that one there was a ton of conflicting information on this car One source said that that used the 361 engine

It could’ve been me I miss spoke the second time the first time with the Holly had I said power flight and then I went back and listen to it with the hemi I said powerglide honest mistake
