The neighbor man across the road used a PTO drive McCormick 76 to harvest his wheat and oats well into the 1990s. Just about all of his equipment was McCormick, even his tractors were McCormick-Farmall. When he passed away, a collector/restorer bought most of it and, his grandson still shows it locally to this day.
We had a 141 when I was little, and I still have a 76 that I use occasionally for old times sake.
What I find most interesting in this video is the lack of dust blowing around. It would make for a long day out in those open stations eating all that dirt. Those men were true men back in the day.

I was one of those operators, on two open-station IHC combines, the 151 hillside and the 503. Wore a cowboy style damp bandanna for a respirator...wheat was a joy compared to threshing barley...."nature's fibreglass".

When I was a kid, the farmer across the road used one of these to farm his 300 acres. In twenty years that I know of, he used all of the same equipment. His combine was open cockpit and would handle four rows of corn. He was a very nice easy going man who never married and took care of his mother until her death. Do you think any of these young kids today would have that kind of character to handle all of that?

@@hillbilly4christ638Many today would smother their mother with a pillow if it meant they could get another quarter section of land.
So much cooler than modern stuff.

Less costly too
Great video. Brings back memories when my brother or I would ride in the grain tank on the model 76 pull type sorting out grasshoppers from bean pods while Dad was on the MTA tractor.
These old videos are sooo good. Thank you for putting them up for farmers like myself and other people to enjoy.

Glad you enjoy them!
Love this video, very interesting! That said, it sure makes me appreciate my Gleaner!
My dad started out with a 127. Then 2 141s, 151, and 181, 503 and 915. I spent many hrs running our 141s on soybeans, with the 14' heads.
Great video. I love such one. Its a great industrial video.
Allis chalmers and international are my two loves in the ag world !!!! I wish it was still the golden age of agriculture when there little man could make a living over just a 200 acer operation
Interesting vid, these US made combines we rarely seen here in Australia as we had A models at the time for Australian conditions. MF was most popular n there more pull types then SP. Post WW2 here in Australia, IH started building combines or we call them Headers.

I have operated an A-84 header PTO. It was an excellent machine. Better than a Massey in my opinion.
Hey, it was great meeting you guys at Squatch's booth last weekend at Le Sueur. Even though we didn't have much time, I'm glad we had the chance to say hello. Take care, and maybe we'll get to talk Gleaners and swap meet finds again in 2024.

It was nice to meet you too. It's great hearing stories about what got people interested in Allis Chalmers/Gleaner. It would've been cool to see that dealer you talked about in its prime.
Good day from Ontario. Boy I am surprized thought it would be Allis. But self leveling would have been quite a thing on some of those hills. Thanks
my grandad had old mcormick pull type you had to ride and tie grain bags ay corners of field you would kick all bags off in neat little rows boy how times have changed also he pulled that combine with a f20 of course ih all the way
And here i thought that track mounted combines were a relatively recent development 😂
Back when we had more farmers .
