1950s FASHION

The fashion of the 1950's is mostly dominated by the American culture. United Stated became a leading economy in the 1950s, and the American culture and way of life became the aspirational dream. All this prosperity reflected in fashion with lots of colour and elegant styles. There was more diversity of styles and teenagers became a new demographic for fashion. These baby boomers also started to rebel against the "put together " style and lifestyle of their parents, creating their own style.

Yes, we can dress like 1950 I have never wear a short paint in public. People don’t want to put clothes on when they are out in public.

We can dress like this again. One woman at a time! Start with going back to wearing dresses only. ❤

Thank you Christian Dior for what I feel to be the best 15 years of fashion (1947-1962) 🤗

I grew up in the 1950’s and remember the fashion of the time. We didn’t have much extra money, but , luckily, Mother was a fabulous sewist. Not only did she sew for the “rich” ladies of the town, but for herself and her family. There were patterns to be purchased and if no pattern, she could develop the look for her clients. It seemed to be a magical time for a child, the fun clothes and toys allowed the imagination to work ! And the movies… but, I’m digress…many thanks for sharing this memorable time!!

In the 50's I was lucky enough to have a wonderful seamstress in my neighborhood and we came up with some wonderful outfits that were inexpensive and lovely. Hated to move away from her but am eternally grateful for her.

I had beautiful dresses during the 50s. My mother made them, but both grandmothers were very good at making clothing. My mom copied dresses that were on models in Seventeen Magazine, made copies of expensive Lanz dresses and Pendleton skirts.

Thank-you for shedding light on the fashions of various decades. I especially liked watching the 1950's since you hear or see so little about this decade anymore. My Mother grew up in the 1950's and she does not like to talk about it much. So I enjoyed your video on this decade like the other videos you have made.

Are Lululemon leggings the new girdles of the 21st Century woman who would never think of wearing a girdle now are happier then ever to wear stretched elastic constricting and forceful curves sometimes we are all tricked even the once’s pointing out the oddities of life are as much living in it as any one else.

What RUBBISH! America had nothing to do with the explosion of Paris Post war fashion!!! American fashion was all about looking pregnant! THOSE awful bonnet hats and capes, etc
