    Actually, they came standard with a Drivers Side Sun Visor only. The passenger was optional unless they ordered the Deluxe Cab. That Seat and Door Material was called Naugahyde which was a predecessor to Modern Expanded Vinyl which came along in the 1950s.

    Great Video. I believe the first truck I ever rode in was a 1949 Dodge with a soda rack body. Its partner truck was a 1946 Studebaker 1 ton truck with a soda rack body. I remember how low the Dodge was geared in 1st Gear and I loved the shape of the gearshift! This Dodge had the 6 cylinder motor and when it would get hot, it would sometimes expdrience vapor lock and be hard to start. Unlike so many trucks from the 1950s, this one was easy on oil. It didn't burn oil and it didn't throw any out the tailpipeor leak. Those Pilothouse Dodges were great Trucks!

    Thank you so much for sharing those memories as well as all that information. Greatly appreciate it happy you dig this episode. I have never driven a Dodge truck from this era. I heard that they can be hard to steer but as far as the cabin goes I don’t think there’s anything that beats it because it’s an optical illusion. It doesn’t look like a huge truck on the outside but on the inside, it’s absolutely massive And it doesn’t have a claustrophobic like some of the older trucks have but they have that claustrophobic. You have to go back to the 30s or even 40s they’re just cozy I guess would be a better word to describe it the Dodge isn’t that

    I've really come to love these old heavy duty work trucks that put in the work back in the day. For years, I would go to car shows and see these trucks all dolled up with white walls and chrome hubcaps and it always felt off to me. These old trucks have certainly earned the right to an easy life now that they're getting old, but there's something refreshing seeing a stock look, stock drivline, and most importantly stock interior. Thank you for sharing this really impressive example of what has to be a rare truck today.

    I remember when I was study auto mechanics in the vocational school one old guy came with one of those truck for a tune up. I literally climb the front wheel an sit inside the inner fender to replace the spark plugs, the ignition points, the cap the rotor and the fuel filter. The oil filter change always was a messy job, also the air filter too due to the oil bath. I remember too I need to get half body in the engine bay with the legs hanging in the air to adjust the timing and the carburetor. On that time I had 15 yrs. Those old irons was a good and interesting material to learn auto mechanics.

    Great story thank you so much for sharing those awesome memories it would be really hard to work on this truck being the engine sits so far down and it sits so high up. I had a bit of a laugh because when I was working on my Chevy truck which the engine doesn’t fit nearly as far down in it but that’s the thing like you could sit on the fender of those old cars and not worry about putting a dent in it because they could take it the new cars won’t.

    The D&P lumber truck, the International, was from the Deniston and Partridge lumber company which i believe was started back in the early 1900s here in my hometown of Newton, Iowa. So that truck holds a special spot in my heart but my dad had a 1956 Dodge Red Ram half ton. I only got to drive it once but, unfortunately my older brother was too short to drive it Have a great day.

    @@wallacem41atgmail I believe it was a 57 Model 923 w/a small sleeper cab. The air system was new to me as I was used to hydraulic brakes etc. It was quite a 'liberation' after the first truck, an H Model Mack which also had a brownie (5/3). Top speed on the Diamond T was around 63 MPH, which erased the frustration from the Mack only doing about 50. Power steering too. Bostrom seat & manual shutters etc. Just the feeling of having that Cummins under the hood is something I can't describe! Truckers now have automatics & 500 HP. With cup holders!

The only thing that I want to change is if I ever have the opportunity to switch out the rear end I want to put a two speed rear and keep the 373s that it has and put a 290 in it I’m getting about 16 miles to the gallon on the highway but I figured if I put a 290 in I might be able to get 20

I later found, had a 235 rebuilt and put in it's place of the 216.

    I was never really into the vintage trucks that much, other than just taking note of the different models whenever I would see them at vintage auto show or something, or even occasionally on an old movie or show, although l have paid more attention to the late 60s or 70s models, but I do think this one looks like a really solid truck, and the interior is nice, and spacious! If I had to pick from the first scenario, I would say the international, for some reason that one appeals to me more, and the second scenario I would definitely pick the Bugatti! 😎

    Here's a challenge question for the group. And, this is NOT being done to disparage anyone! Brian R., below, mentioned that Studebaker was also making trucks in 1950. What other competing U.S. truck manufacturer was NOT mentioned yet in the comments section?? Hints: In 1950, they offered pickups, flatbeds, stakebeds and bare rear chassis models as well as station wagons built on the truck chassis and the nameplate remains one of the best known U.S. name brands worldwide to this day. The first one who answers correctly will inherit my spare unassembled, unpainted 1958 Edsel Corsair model kit upon my demise.

    These were good trucks. We had a ‘48 Dodge 1-ton (also a ‘48 Ford F-6, and both looked much more modern than the ‘49 International KB-6 they replaced). Later, Dad bought a ‘52 Dodge heavy half ton (the heavy half had wheel studs and lug nuts, while our ‘51 standard half “parts truck” had lug bolts). These were excellent trucks for the money.

    Glad somebody noted this - the front grill on this one is 51-53 as well. The grill of the 48-50 can be seen in the ad shown at 1:26 in the video. Still a beautiful truck!

    Again no contest, I would pick the Chevy. Never liked the Dodge B series. Besides, I like the Chevy or GMC overhead valve straight 6 engines over the Dodge flatheads. Although I will say that most flathead 6's were reliable and smooth running engines.

    Awesome choice =) this cab is bigger in the dodge I own a 52 Chevy 1 ton with that said I think that Chevy is the easiest one to drive out of the three I’ve driven a Ford I’ve heard stories about how bad the Dodge could be the turn.

    Say Jay, if you thought it was a 1 ton, you could have measured the wheelbase with tape measure, center ot axle to center of axle. Just sayin. Not a "truck guy" but Diamond T. Talbot Largo.

  • @What.its.like.

    @What.its.like.

    I didn’t have a tape measure on me I should’ve but the half total only came with 6 1/2 foot bed in this bed was bigger than that I think the three-quarter ton came with a 7 foot bed to get the 9 foot bed you had to get the 1 ton truck. Of course with it being as long ago as it was people can modify anything with that said this had job rated on the front of it which most of the bigger trucks said that. I would really love to do some exotic cars like the Talbot largo and Alfa 6c One thing that I really really want to do but it’s not going to happen for a while is go to Pebble Beach and wild there I would love to go to pur sang headquarters and do some of their cars
