1948: GOODWOOD MOTOR CIRCUIT's First Race | Newsreel | Classic BBC Sport | BBC Archive

Спорт

Racing from Goodwood - though not necessarily the type of racing you might associate with Goodwood, no horses here only motorcars - it's the inaugural meeting of the new Goodwood race track. The course, which belongs to the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, has been converted from RAF Westhampnett airfield.
The Junior Car Club brought together over 100 vehicles to compete, with events ranging from midget class (500cc capacity engines) to 'Grand Prix' class.
Reg Parnell took the chequered flag, and the first ever Goodwood Trophy - beginning a love affair with the track that would eventually lead to him being dubbed the "Emperor of Goodwood".
Originally broadcast 24 September, 1948.

Adorable! And the drivers leaning into corners in the midgets as in a motorcycle :)

Most people associate Goodwood with the hill climb in the grounds of the estate, but the circuit is still used today for the Revival.

That's actually formula 3. "Midgets" is not the right description. These cars (mostly Coopers) with their 500cc bike engines and chain drive are the start of the modern Grand Prix car!
