1945s abandoned train restoration - Antique rusty locomotive

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is a new video !!
This is a model train produced by Fleischmann around 1944/45.
It's pretty rusted and the clockwork mechanism wasn't working .
Most of the parts are so thin that I couldn't do sandblasting... I decided to clean them using electrolytic pickling. It has removed the old painting and also the rust !!
Please watch till the end to see this antique locomotive in action !
By supporting the channel you help me make more of these video and find more amazing items.
I hope you'll enjoy this restoration.
Thanks a lot for watching !

This was great! Highlights for me are the fabrication of a new wheel and the "pickling" method to remove all of the old paint and rust. Given how damaged this toy was in the beginning, it is amazing that you managed to return it to like-new condition. Kudos!

Remember, after the war, Germany was divided into zones. The Russian zone became East Germany, and the three other zones, British, French, and American, became West Germany. Same thing with Berlin. So this was a wonderful thing to be made so soon after the end of the war.

Now, take a moment to think of the manufacturing of this little train....all of the individual components. Most, if not all of it was hand made. That's quite a lot of work for a clockwork toy, and probably took quite a lot of time when you add up the time for each part. The time and care you spent on it was well worth it. Nicely done.

I'd love for someone to get a bunch if these restored battery powered or clockwork toys, let kids play with them, and see if they think they're actually new modern toys rather than toys their great (and some cases great great) grandparents played with!

Some projects are just irresistible...aren't they..? I remember my first old train restoration...sure would like to find another one, and restore it too....😁👍 I got it for $7.00 and restored it to new . It's a 1949 battery powered tin litho...now worth a small fortune !

Love the "Made in the US zone" marking. Cold war toys... Have few more recent HO models build beyond the iron curtain. Strangely good models, finely detailed, built to a high standard. Wonder who could have bought such things at the time, there... Very impressive work by the way. Just perfect job.

I have no idea of post war, West German railway practice, but why would a tank engine also have a tender? Very interesting that Fleischmann were required to stamp 'Made in US zone' on their toys. Did the British insist on stamping every VW beetle made in Wolfsburg 'Made in British zone'? Amazing transformation. Modern methods make a huge difference. Electrolytic rust removal, mini sand blasting, resin filling compounds and micro paint spraying probably make it look as good (or better) than when it left the factory, seventy odd years ago.

First of all: A great restoration and a superb video! About the Toy: The Company that produced these Locomotives in the 1950s is called "Gebrüder Fleischmann" (as the video description tells). That's what the GFN stands for on the front of the Locomotive (Fleischmann brothers). The Toy was made in a town called Nürnberg (Nuremberg) and coincidentally this town was the Startpoint for the first railway in Germany on the 7. Dec. 1835 between Nürnberg and the town next to it, Fürth. But, as beautiful as the Locomotive and its tender setup is, its actually wrong! Fleischmann made two Train sets: - One with this Locomotive and two passenger wagons: Called "Uhrwerk-Eisenbahn" ("Clockwork Train" because of the winding mechanism) It never had a tender originally. The Loco has a coal bunker at the back of the drivers cab, like many shunting engines had at that time. - And another one with a larger Locomotive + tender and three wagons wich ran on 25 Volts Current: Called "Elektrische-Eisenbahn" ("Electric train" nothing to add to this! :P) But many german children did swap the tender like this and its better to be restored like this than tossed away! In conclusion: Great work bro!
