1942 - Versions Comparison (HD 60 FPS)

Ойындар

Today we're going to compare 1942 (Capcom, 1984), a vertical shoot'em up made by Capcom that had great success in Arcades. Later, the game received a bunch of ports for different systems. This video features first level gameplay of the following versions:
0:00 Arcade (1984)
2:17 NES / Famicom (1985)
4:38 Commodore 64 / C64 (1986)
5:52 Amstrad CPC (1986)
8:39 ZX Spectrum (1986)
10:31 MSX (1986)
14:09 MSX2 (1986)
16:45 Fujitsu Micro 7 / FM-7 (1987)
20:55 NEC PC-88 (1987)
25:11 Sharp X1 (1987)
29:29 Sega Saturn (1998)
31:36 PlayStation / PSX (1998)
33:46 Game Boy Color / GBC (1999)
35:45 J2ME (2004)
37:50 Jakks Pacific (2005)
40:02 PSP / PlayStation Portable (2006)
42:12 J2ME (2009)
45:48 iOS / Android (Classic Mode, 2017)
48:01 iOS / Android (Casual Mode, 2017)
Please note that Jakks Pacific emulation has some accuracy issues, specially regarding the sound emulation.
There has also been other releases for other systems, such as PlayStation or Xbox family that have been purposely discluded in this video, as they are emulation of systems already present in this video.
Which is your favorite version? If you enjoyed this video please give us a like, share, comment, subscribe to our channel and don't forget to click the bell icon to receive new updates!

I never realised the C64 theme wasn't in the original or even in most of the other ports. I so love that rendition of that movie soundtrack. It made the game so exiting.

I had been looking everywhere for the C64 theme for this game as I remembered the song and that it came from 1942, but no gameplay ever seemed to use it. I'm pretty sure I've heard a better version someplace, but that might be nostalgia goggles. Thanks for proving that my memory isn't faulty and that this song and this game *were* connected.

Staple of famiclones and bundled cartridges, if you own an NES clone then you own this game. I first played it on the C64. Not an accurate conversion but per se it is a decent vertical scrolling shooter with serviceable sound. I don't like the original whistle sounds at all but somebody must have loved them as they are in all ports made in Japan. I'd rather play the no music Spectrum version (which isn't bad at all).

Ear bleeding sound on most versions. I had to turn it down because it was giving me a headache. Lovely sound on the C64 but not a good game. Arcade version is a lot of fun to play.

If the second J2ME version of the game were not so laggy, I would actually prefer that version of the game over most any other port of the game, including the original arcade version of the game. The OST to it is surprisingly a lot better than the whistle-beeps of the OSTs of most of the other versions of the game.

Arcade: Fun score challenge game NES: Hideous port. 12 FPS console game, even worse sound, etc. Only saving grace is the gameplay C64: Also bad, but is like the exact opposite to NES when it comes to its issues. Cramped screen, missing stages, bad collision detection, but it does have nice tunes and it's smooth CPC: Kinda funny. The play area is SMALL, but it does play well, minus the slow bullets Spectrum: Good overall, minus the collision detection. MSX: Has that typical MSX scrolling, but it's not bad overall. MSX2: Good until a big plane shows up. Just look at that flicker and slowdown! FM-7: Augh! Probably the worst sounding of the bunch. Saying that, the gameplay is still good. PC-88: Same as the FM-7 version, but you can set it to a higher speed at the tradeoff of the game running too fast Sharp X1: Same as the above two, but performs the worst overall. It even seems to load after the introduction. Saturn: Basically arcade perfect. It seems to be running in an unnecessarily higher resolution than the PS1 version though PS1: Also arcade perfect and runs in a more compact resolution, but having longer loading as a tradeoff. GBC: A port of the NES version, but it runs a LOT smoother now. We still have the same awful audio though. J2ME (Western): Ok, I take back what I said in the FM-7 port. THIS is the worst. It's also rather choppy for a simple looking game. I'd say it's a pass for me. Jakks Pacific: Arcade perfect, but also muffled PSP: Seems to be a port of the PS1, but now with crappy anti-aliasing all over the screen. I feel like I'm the only one who hates anti aliasing. J2ME (Japanese): Now this is more like it. Very good remake of the game, but the scrolling is pretty bad for some reason. Still, it looks and sounds a lot better overall. Mobile port: Touchscreen controls.... yay... at least this makes moving around easier.

Wow, my ears are bleeding! That whistle sound (why? music???) and the shots, horrible! Only the C64 version has this great soundtrack i still remember 29 years later... The Amstrad version is REALLY bad: Why is the playfield so tiny? And the "exploding" planes sound like popping balloons. Except for the MSX 2, all the japanese computers can't do reasonable scrolling. No wonder, japanese players prefered consoles! The Sharp also has to build up the screen again for leaving/reaching the aircraft carrier. My ranking would be: C64 (fast and sound), Arcade (the original), MSX 2 (nice graphics), NES (except sound everything's ok) and Spectrum (pretty good for it's capabilites, but don't like the plattform). Then the stuttering japanese computers without the Sharp, CPC and last the Sharp. Don't care for the later plattforms. Strange that there isn't a Master System version also.

Whoever came up with that fucking awful bleeping soundtrack should've been fired, worst video game soundtrack ever, I could've sworn I played an arcade version with the squadron 633 theme in 1993 though, but you seemed to skip from 1987 straight to 98 and there was an early 90s arcade version.
