My mother used to sing these songs from '30's, '40's and '50's. I sure do miss her. She was born in 1924 and passed in 2015, 6 days before my 53rd birthday. Love you mom!

My mother was born in 1922, served in the US Army Nurse Corps from 1942 to 1945, including 18 months overseas, was an RN in industry and hospitals, retired in 1980, died in 2003.

This played at my Nan's funeral yesterday she loved to dance - proper party girl in her youth ❤️ RIP June lived a full 90 years xx

WHAT A WONDERFUL FUNERAL IDEA! No matter what age, in your mind you'll always be 25 - 35. Meaning, you're stuck with the best years in your life. So your Grandmother wanted to strutt that swing again, like she HOPEFULLY did, when she was a pretty, young and (as every young girl) vain CHICK😃❣️ Tragic is, the whole world was at war then! We as the postwar born should never forget! But your Nan NAILED it by ordering: "Listen to MY favourite music!" I think it is a lovely way to give a last heritage to the next Generation. Thank you very much for your story!🙏 Btw.: I'm German.

My father, who served in WWII, always said this was his favorite song from the war era. I always think of him when I hear this. I am sure there are a number of difference renditions of it. The Greatest Generation. Thank you to all who have served in the past and to those who are serving now. God Bless America!

My Mamma was born in BobTown Pennsylvania in 1925, My Dad in Deluth in 27. He was A WW11 Navy Man pacific theater. Mom was a Navy WAVE. They used to play these records on their Giant Zenith console stereo cabinet at 0600 AM and get our asses out of bed with this music. Haaa,,,gotta love this Greatest Generation. they tought me to get up and work for my family. the values and principles they had, and the demands they required of us kids, tho may be considered harsh these days, were the very things that made me what I am Today. God bless them and their hard teachings. It was their LOVE that tought us to be strong. not anger or harshness. but the old school ways. Thank you Dad, and Mom,,,for your loving Hard teachings.. RIP. I will never forget.

These girls were terrific, and they even had Shemp Howard in there for comic relief... What a terrific performance.

My dad was a pilot with the New Zealand airforce in the Pacific with US forces during WW2. He was obviously influenced;uenced as a young guy, by all this music. For me as a kid growing up in the late 40's and early 50's, in New Zealand, our house was filled with this music. Now in my 70's, I still love this stuff.....

I am 80s Air Force, SAC, 380th Air Refueling Squadron, BOOMER. But I always dream of being in the air like snoopy in areal combat with the demon of the skys, in the night and fighting the nemesis of my dreams haaa, no. I had It perty good, just hauling Ass and Passin Gas around the world in a flying gas station. a KC-135 Tanker.. a cargo gas personnell jet. I was the Boomer.... not much action, just a few thunderstorms and some really drunk girls in florida Haaa, C 130s were perty scary. but all in all, a very nice time. My Dad was WW11 Navy, did the Operation Majick Carpet. goin around the world picking up G I s from every land and bringing them home. After the war. a supply transport ship. much like the one I flew in the Air Force so I guess me and dad did the same dam thing. geee. Strange how things work out. My Brother was Also on a transport ship in the Navy, USS Milwaukee. an unREP , mid sea Refueler, the 80s. wow.. I guess were a family of transporters.....refuelers. anywho. SALUTE to you pilots and dog fighting worriors. we love this music, even if it got my ass out of bed at 0 dark 30 AM. Haaa. cant beat this music.... SGT, USAF, Boomer.

Not even the crackling and hissing due to the age of this recording can hide the quality of these gals singing abilities. Just fabulous.

For all you kids that love this music, that feel you were born too late, keep listening! Don't let your friends make you feel bad about it, you just want MORE than the pap that's served up on the radio stations today. I guarantee that YOU will be remembered as the cool one! I know because I was you, a long time ago.

Well, House of the Rising Sun was written sometime in the 1840s-1850s, but it is still remembered, thanks to the Animals version back in the 60s. Music doesn't really age, as it can always be arranged for a more current audience.

Poor Shemp. Getting smacked by Moe, and Patty Andrews! The guy can't catch a break. Shemp is funny af, in Buck Privates, in a short scene with Lou Costello. Lou sings 'three cheers...', while Shemp, who plays a cook, does this hilarious dance, with his apron. I crack up, still. Great film. The Andrews Sisters are in it, too.

Shemp quit the Stooges (then with Ted Healy) in 1932, and was replaced by Curly. He returned after his brother's stroke in 1946. He had a great solo career for 14 years.

The greatest and most unique female trio of all time!!! RIP.

Words cannot describe how much i'd love for this music to be back again, it was such a simple time where people just loved music.

For anyone who wants to hear more from the Andrews Sisters and the Harry James Orchestra with vocalist Dick Foran, this performance was from the wartime film "Private Buckaroo." It costars Shemp Howard and Mary Wickes posing as an engaged couple, and a very young Donald O'Connor along with dancing group, the Jumpin' Jacks and Jills. Lot of GREAT music!!

Absolutely great performance by all these artists. The sisters can move superbly even in those beautiful high heeled shoes and smartuniforms.

What memories this brings to me, my dad used to put this 78 on the gramophone, and my mum along with me and my 2 brothers would sing along. The Andrews Sisters sound as fresh today as ever, though I know a tear will glisten, whenever I might listen.

What I wouldn’t give to see this performance in person. Andrews Sisters and Glenn Miller…gosh…so cool

This reminds me of a time my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday or Christmas. I told her a Glen Miller album. She got me a Glen Campbell album!!! She couldn't believe that I actually wanted 30s, 40s music! I finally did get my Glen Miller album and about wore it out. I was born in the early 50s so I did hear music from the 40s at least because of my 2 much older sisters.

If you listen to other sibling groups, you will notice the same. Siblings have similar voices. The Everly brothers, Shangri-las (two sets of sisters) the Isley Brothers the Ronnetts (two sisters and a cousin) Boswell sisters... Listen to them all; it's a "family" thing. There are few family acts today, unfortunately. The Petersens are the only group I know about.

I love country especially Glen Campbell songs. I missed those classic country song and blue grass. The steel guitar is a steal and the harmony is superb like the Andrews Sisters. Thanks guys. it is just like a blast from the past. love it!!

I'm 58 years old and I love The Andrews Sisters and I love this kind of music big band music I guess you would call it Tommy Dorsey Glenn Miller

I was born in 1938 so I was introduced to the big band, the swing mursic, high school in the 50's and then watched as music in general changed (degradation my opinion) through the 60's, 70's and whatever you cal the vulgarities nowdays. For those of you wishing you lived back then it was pretty good after WW11.

@@karlajensen3708 Try The Boswell Sisters, they were around in the 1930's and The Andrews Sisters started their careers imitating the 3 Boswell Sisters. It's where the Andrews learned that style of close harmony. All the Bozzies were also multi instrumentalist. KZread The Boswell Sisters "Heebie Jeebies" and take it from there. Hope you like them :-)

@@Thomasnmi Those 3 gals got the ball rolling for so many famous female vocal trios, and way back in the early 30's, a mom came home with a recording of the Bozzies, and the womans then young daughter aged around 12 years old was so inspired by the way Connie Boswell sang, that she started to imitate her and learned to sing like her. That young girl had an incredibly amazing career as a singer, and right up to her death credited Connie Boswell for her vocal style and success. That young girl was Ella Fitzgerald.

I love this type of music although from all my fave songs it starts in 1898 and ends in 2005

It was great to see Shemp Howard in this number. At the time this was filmed, he was not a part of the "Three Stooges" team. He joined them in 1946 after Curly had his stroke. After he died in Nov. 1955, Joe Besser took his place with the stooges.

You mean Shemp RE-joined them. Shemp was part of the original act in 1920s Vaudeville with his brother Moe but he left the act in 1933 over a dispute with another original member of the act, Ted Healy. He was replaced at that time by his and Moe's younger brother, Jerry Howard (aka "Curly"). After being solo from 1933 - 1945, Shemp began "temporarily" filling in for Curly with the Stooges in 1945 due to Curly's health issues, but in the end Curly could not return and Shemp once again became a regular member of the act until he died in 1955.

Yes, you are right, but I was referring to the stooge episodes that were filmed. When they began filming the stooge comedies in 1934, Shemp was on the west coast already in other work. That is why Curly was brought in when the stooge filming began.

My parents were from this generation, dad was in the merchant marine ,sunk twice, but survived ! I always think of them when I listen to the great swing bands of that era. Great music, fantastic bands. I love it !

This brought tears to my eyes. Sharing this with my sis. That dance salute got me, had to play over a few times. The past music is so touching. 11.30.20. Mon. 853pm

This is better than today's music. Modern music just has changed.

I love this song. It's so nostalgic now, I'm thinking about how this was new when my mother was a child. I'm so glad to have grown up having these joy-inducing songs played.
