I commend you; you are to be congratulated on your work. You must learn, though, to cease the anxiety regarding the removal of the painter's and/or masking tape prior to the setting of the wet paint. You could have fudged the whole deal; luckily you didn't. Your color choice of deep red for the steel portions of the body (fire engine red would have debased its character) was an astute one. The chrome fender trim, always a painstaking effort, you handled only TOO well, and how you got it as perfect as you did is a testament to your obvious skills. That woodwork is beyond believable. Finally, your idea to weather it into the illusion of a California beach cruiser instead of a concours museum piece is something I, as a rule, would much prefer. You could have left out the back seat and the rear window to remain in keeping with the SoCal driver image faithful to the surfing ballad of Surf City (Jan and Dean). As of now, I'm awaiting the delivery of my OWN AMT '41 Woody Kit; a planned art project in my art therapy class. I HAD, to be honest and admit that I cheat, chosen the metal body Pro Shop kit in yellow with all the painstaking details done already; I just have to piece it together, and anyway, rubber cement because of the toxic fumes isn't allowed within the confines of the art room makes for reasoning WHY I should cheat. The overall detail is probably just as convincing as the standard kit you built from. MY kit STILL requires glue; so I chose an odorless and superior bond Gorilla glue for the job. I guess it's off to Surf City for both of us now. Neat-o job! David Z New York.

Try cutting bare metal in strips the width of the moldings. Been doing it for years works great Lot easier than cutting it on the model. Tom

Your 100% correct with removing the tape as you do. Because the edge can peel and lift if the paint is actually dry.

Nice job! Love the colors. A trick I learned when masking lines is to paint the color you’re protecting along the tape line, then paint the next color. Reason is to let the color you’re protecting seep in along the tape, not he second color.

Speaking as a 40 year custom painter it is always a good idea to detape while the paint is almost dry to keep the tape from pulling the paint off, although you can pull it off too soon,,, judgement call,,, practice makes perfect
