these heritage railways run to time so much better than main line services, here you can ask a member of staff in the booking office, but on mainline services your left to your own devises. great documentary. STEAM NEVER DIED!!!!!!!.......... IT HAD A LITTLE REST.

Came upon this by chance, and have binged on it all day(it is Sunday!) It is just fabulous ☺️☺️ and coming from England, living in the US, really gives me a bit of home. I just want to hug them all and have a cup of tea.....and some of those sausage rolls!!!

You can't test the boiler you worked on until you can steam it? Sure you can; fill it 98% with water and then pump in compressed air (by filling it mostly with water and only topping off with pressure, you keep the energy in the tank to a minimum in case there is a failure). Wastes some water but that's cheap as chips compared to firing it (especially if there IS a failure), not to mention the time it takes for firing.

Sadly the HRA (Heritage Railway Association) have put a stop to this on the railways due to the Ukraine war. Didn't stop them having these weekends when all other wars in the world were happening. Shame as these events remember those who took place in all wars and also raises money for veteran charities. What makes me laugh is the NYMR is donating all sales from the weekend to the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal, yet they say in this program if a bad weekend then could put the railway in difficulty for the Winter period.
Why are so many brits dressed as yanks?
The General Manager of the NYMR is a pratt. The real reason the Germans are no longer at NYMR is because the NYMR wanted a lottery grant for possible work on the bridges. There was a Jewish person on the lottery board and so I've been told the only way they would have the grant is to do away with the Germans. I've have never ever seen any complaints about the Germans at this railway.

@@wilfbm9067 what about German POWs? I went to see the WW2 event at my local steam railway when i was younger and I saw a few dressed up as POWS but I am not certain on that.

@@eliotreader8220 the people in the video were clearly dressed in battle gear they had sub machine guns on them- not very POW ie if you ask me
